    Very cool to see someone hand steeling a shot pattern in the wild.
    Old, old, incredibly old school!
    I've got a degree in mining engineering, so if you want a little help with how to drill your holes and lay out your shot patterns, hit me with an email. [tech] [AT] [logic-industries] [DOT] [com] Obviously you have to remove the brackets and spaces, etc.
    Good on ya for having some initiative to do SOMETHING (doesn't even matter what). Most people are so passive these days, they never get off dead center and just START doing something.
    Would be happy to lend a little knowledge to shorten up your learning curve (and maybe help you stay alive, though you seem to be doing fine on that front yourself).
    Good luck with the project either way!

    4:40 I just love your enthusiasm, Cody! As written before you'd make a great teacher.
    I work as a tour guide in Falun Mine in Sweden, an old copper mine that's a World Heritage now and I've learned so much from watching your mining videos. Most things I knew about theoretically, but seeing you actually perform them practically on camera is different and awesome!
    If you ever come to Sweden I'd love to take you down into the 1000 year old mine!

    It might be a good idea to shore up another 10-20 meters of mine shaft, to further decrease the odds of a collapse. All those explosions may end up damaging the ceiling of the shaft, and it would be horrible if it were to fall on you. Yes, you said that rock was pretty hard, but safety must be top priority. On top of that, I would recommend drilling an exhaust shaft to the surface every 5 meters or so, with bladeless fans in each one, as well as a solar panel/battery pack for each one, so as you are never more than 2.5 meters from a power source. Also, if you attach a ceiling light on every support beam, the mine wouldn't be so dark as to need mirrors, and you could work even at night! As for mining faster and more efficiently, I would recommend asking one of your friends to help you in the mine to move debris, drill holes, etc., as you may end up being able to do the same amount of work in half the time!

  • @Droggelbecherbot

    Here's a pro tip about using explosives in a mine: if you actually have a single, relatively even wall you want to blow up (not like in this video here) then you should drill an additional hole in the middle of the wall which is surrounded by the explosives (no explosive in this particular hole). Because without this hole most of the force just blows out at the end of each hole instead of fracturing the rock.

      +Cody'sLab what you could do is drill a bunch of holes to weaken the stone, then blast a few deeper holes to blow up the rock behind the weak stone, and then that weaker stuff should fall down [or just mine it out with a pick]

      +Cody'sLab You should reach out to some and see if they will do it. You would be surprised how much people are willing to do to promote their product. Really like your videos cody. Here's a couple blasting tips. Ram at least 6inches of cutting dust in the end of each shot hole. The restriction will increase the burst pressure sideways increasing the amount of rock removed and ensuring all your charge goes off. Also, if you set your charges off milli seconds apart, you get a nice shock wave tearing though the rock improving your yield. You could do this by setting up a row of contact pins (negative pole,one for each shot) and sweep the positive pole across them in one movement sending the initiation charge to each shot milli seconds apart. Keep up the good work

    Cody, I just discovered this series, and watched it all.
    What I love a bout it is the nonchalance with which you just go real life mining. Usually I'd think you'd be an idiot, and gonna have yourself caved in and die, but you've done all these studies, and I'm confident you actually know what's going on. :)

    Buy a 20volt dewalt hammer/drill for 179$ at Home Depot with a 3/4in carbide hammer drill bit I use one all the time for concrete anchoring it should be more than enough for that soft rock. Actually that kinda looks like sandstone which it should easily go through..

    • @mytmousemalibu
      @mytmousemalibu 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Cody'sLab Just an idea if you decided to initiate your charges electrically, you could get a timed blast by making a simple contact/wiper arm system, like how a wiper arm brushes over a resistive element of a rheostat, kind of way.

    • @AlexLaw_Qld
      @AlexLaw_Qld 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +mytmousemalibu electrical sequencing gets complicated from a safety view point when you have a long cable run and sharp bits of rock interacting a long way "down" a hole. Electrically igniting short reliable chemical fuses means you can be sure after a couple of minutes that all the booms that are going to happen have happened.

    • @duncanmurray7482
      @duncanmurray7482 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alex H Even a cheap SDS rotary hammer drill will shrink the time massively. Something with a separate hammer and rotor motor should do the trick. They're cheap enough to be disposable at this level of work.
