Endgame mastery will translate to more wins and better middle game decision-making will lead to more winning chances - if you do both of these, you will get Grandmaster rating.
I agree. These Super GMs are such end-game masters it's hard to actually understand what is it that these Super GMs are actually thinking and seeing in an end game position and resigning. Whereas for us mere mortals, it looks weird.
There is a game mentionted in the chess24 live feed that magnus carlsen won in a very similar position with white against anand i believe so you should check it out he converted the exact same position in the 2nd endgame
Great analysis. Hard work always pays off. And yes, I also was confused why did wang hao resign and magnus, Jan and Lawrence were like yes it's just an easy win. I really can't believe it's winning or at least I thought it should be an extremely hard fighting win. But yeah we are mortals and they are grandmasters.
The idea in the first endgame is that black can't do anything on the queenside: b-pawn can't be pushed and a-pawns will soon block each other. If you try to go Ke5-Kd4 just Nc4-Nb6-Nd7 and the f- and critical h-pawn will fall. This is pretty clear. If you try to go straight for the h-pawn, which was your idea: Kf7, Kf2, Kg6, Ng4, f5, Ne3! and black is without a move. He cant take the h-pawn or his f-pawn will fall. He can't push the f-pawn either. White can just march his king up. I agree that the resignation was premature, even on GM-level. Wang Hao probably thought that the variation is so forcing that Nepomniachtchi couldn't possibly have missed that, but three more moves... It doesn't hurt to try that much! The knight endgame on the other hand is not winning - most likely, as even engines cant seem to solve it. The problem here is that black can try for a gazillion moves because the 50-move rule resets after every pawn move, which is also probably why Alekseenko immediately pushed he f-pawn. The tragedy is that Alekseenko blundered on the edge of salvation. In addition to h6 simply Nh1-Nf2 back and forth draws. Hours of grind takes it's toll on every human.
Hi Sjtepan, wondering if I can interest you in expounding on QvR endgames. Been following a set of videos by Derek Grimell but struggling to resolve a third rank defence that turns into a harassment defence and hoping your insight might clear it up. Anyway, wish you the best of luck as you continue to improve.
Stefan, have you made a video about the four knights game? If you did can you please link it because I can’t find it. And if you didn’t an you please make one?
I was watching this endgame on stream by chess.com, I think the point I got was that overall all GMs thought it was a draw; but few years ago Carlsen won exactly the same position against Anand. So the commentators thought Giri was trying to get the same position from Carlsen Anand. Anyway if I understood correctly the position was drawn, Giri won only because Alekseenko after hours of play blundered
Played optimally it is a draw... Although the engine shows -1 at beginning but there is no winning idea... I can share some pgns if u want to show drawing ideas 😅😅
This is the fifth time. But it's not a novel. And just reading it is not enough. Wasn't for me at least. This time i hope to understand a large portion of it because i will be forced to explain it to other people.
@@HangingPawns Thats incredibly interesting. I've had the book for maybe over a year and never got around to reading it, you know actually successfully. Sam Shankland is doing a class on chess 24 at the moment "stay at home" or something and he mentioned something similar, about when he teaches chess he hopes to learn as well, a reason for him so often using other peoples games instead of his own to teach with. Just hearing how you've gone over it so often seems like good inspiration for me to start, so thanks.

15:51 it's a draw, there is a database for 7 pieces (including kings) endgames you can check it : syzygy-tables.info/
that's just one variation though, the original position has more pieces..

Thanks for the explanations, it seems like those GMs don't know how to explain them to us humans xd

can you do a video about mine squares and bishop ending principles?
you will publish the books on patreon? what does that mean?
I will not publish the books:) i will record videos on my thoughts and analysis and what I've learned from Dvoretsky's endgame manual.

Nice video again! You couldn't win Giris position? that is correct it is a dead draw he just blundered and made a lot of mistakes or inecured moves.
Stockfish 12 evaluates the position as -0.18
1:29 coronavirus opening xd
There is no need to use an engine. Use the Nalimov tables
Instead of h5 white had simply Nh1 is a simple draw also
