    These two amazing ladies are the foundation stones of country and folk music. To me, everyone else lies in their shadow. Their greatness in music history can't be fully described. They were very, very special people.

    Could these ladies ever imagine that their music would be so relevant and generally popular in 2019? Not to mention the technology used to share it.

    This song is so beautiful, it's makes me cry. I can imagine the poor mountain people in their simple and trusting way worshipping the Lord. You would have to have a heat as hard as Pharoh's if this song doesn't move you.

    Away by the river so clear,
    The ladies were winding their way,
    While Pharaoh's little daughter stepped down in the water
    To bathe in the cool of the day.
    Before it was dark, she opened the ark
    And found the sweet infant was there.
    Before it was dark, she opened the ark
    And found the sweet infant was there.
    And away by the waters so blue,
    The infant was lonely and sad;
    She took him in pity and thought him so pretty,
    And it made little Moses so glad.
    She called him her own, her beautiful son,
    And sent for a nurse that was near.
    And away by the river so clear,
    They carried that beautiful child,
    To his own tender mother, his sister and brother,
    Little Moses looked happy and smiled.
    His mother, so good, done all that she could
    To rear him and teach him with care.
    And away by the sea that was red,
    Little Moses, the servant of God,
    While in Him confided, the sea was divided
    As upwards he lifted his rod.
    The Jews safely crossed while Pharaoh's host
    Was drownded in the waters and lost.
    And away on the mountain so high,
    The last one that ever did see,
    While in his victorious, his hope was most glorious,
    He'd soon o'er the Jordan be free.
    When his labors did cease, he departed in peace,
    And rested in the Heavens above.

      It's called a Guitaro. Made by Oscar Schmidt company in the early sixties. You can wear it with a strap like a guitar and you don't have to cross your hands to play it. They have become pretty rare lately.

    I love this music I find it so interesting how Sara's voice was highly pitched when she first started singing then after many years changed into a deep alto

    • @DellaStreet123
      @DellaStreet123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe she sang like that in the earliest recordings because she recording executives wanted her to? I listened to one of those early recordings yesterday, it was from 1927. Ten years later, she sang with her trademark contralto. I don't think it really dropped, she just switched into a register she was more comfortable singing in. When she grew old, her voice acquired that raspy quality, probably due to decades of smoking. An interesting voice, for certain.

    • @alexandrudanila6510
      @alexandrudanila6510 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is mostly due to her heavy smoking.

      More like a baritone. Her voice is deeper than Johnny Cash, she should sing Folsom Prison Blues.

    I wonder if Sara was a smoker. I’ve never read anywhere that she was, but in the days before it was proven to be medically dangerous, many folks smoked, both men and women. I say that because over the years her voice gets deeper and deeper, even a bit raspy. But anything she sings is fabulous. I believe a couple of the verses are missing from this song about Moses and the Pharoah, yes?
    Anyhow, thanks for posting. Great song.

      Joi Jackson Perle the year was 1966, or 1967. They recorded an album in 66 and Maybelle was able to talk Sara into TV performances. I’d guess 66 but some videos label it 67.

    • @martaacosta4415
      @martaacosta4415 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a Christian, I must defend “the harlot” by saying that the Lord told us not to judge lest we be judged. You can judge her actions to be wrongful, but you cannot claim that she is this, that, or the other because that is judging her personally.
      I am saddened at the thought that the marriage of Sara and A.P. Carter broke up. And apparently it happened because of Sara’s affair with A.P.’s cousin. But we have not walked in her shoes; nor do we know if she repented sincerely and received the Lord’s forgiveness.
      Both these ladies are musical superstars, but the state of their souls is something only God can judge.
