She get’s very deep into her songs. I wonder what she actually sees when she’s singing. When she really loses herself, you’ll always see her come out of it when the song ends.
Please consider her live performance of Through the Eyes of a Child at the Nidarosdomen. It’s her most outstanding performance.

She becomes her songs. Early Aurora is a great place to begin. Most start with Murder Song, 54321. But my favorite is It Happened Quiet- also live but at The Current. That will start you off well. Her movements draw you in. She often shakes off her embodying the song after it is over, that is what you saw. Out of that world and back to now.

what I love more than her voice is her personality, she is a hilarious person, humble, direct, ridiculously honest and very special.

Welcome to the world of Aurora. She only gets more impressive from here. My first experience was the KEXP Iceland mini concert, and I fell in love immediately. The Seed, was the second experience I had with Aurora, and I was convinced she was the living embodiment of Princess Mononoke. Aurora is so perfectly human, and that's how she manages to charm people so entirely. You might call her singing style yodels, but I call them Earth Chants.

Aurora started writing lyrics and music at a very young age to help her process or purge her strong sad or unwelcome emotions/feelings. She was not interested in becoming an artist, that was not her dream. When she was discovered, she said no to the management team wanting to sign her, she was not interested, but, thankfully, her mother realized that Aurora music was therapeutic and convinced her to pursue it, so she started at 16, there is no video of her at 11, 12 or 13 performing. Thanks for checking out my all time favorite "multi" talented artist, if you continue on the discovery journey I will be there with you and you will see that she is a masterful storyteller, lyrical genius with haunting beautiful vocals.

Yes, Aurora! Im so glad you started to react on her performances. She is authentic, different and it took me some time to adjust my hearing to not expect the obvious because Aurora, well, she does'nt do the obvious 😊 I highly recommend her song "Through the eyes of a child", live at Nidarosdomen, a cathedral in Trondheim, Norway. Thank you for this one! 👌💛

I saw her live in Barcelona two years ago (same year I saw Dimash live for the first time, not a bad year 😉). In concert she is so funny, close, full of energy, engaging with the audience, dancing...love her! Just seen the new live performance she has released 17 minutes ago and the first video it shows up after it is your reaction! Greetings from Catalonia!

"sounding less like a sheep being strangled than I do" OMG I nearly spit out my soda. LOLOL Thank you for your fantastic humor! On the flip side, emotionally, I would never have been able to express myself this beautifully at age 11. She's a stunning and very unique performer. Leaving me in tears. Especially her face in the end. I will never understand how you are able to suss out all the things you do when you disassemble a piece of music. Just amazing. Thank you.

Hello, Sir!! I burst with happiness when I saw this video’s thumbnail announcing Aurora’s debut on your channel🙌This wonderful artist captured my heart since the first time I discovered her enchanting existence with her 'NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert' 2015 (‘Runaway’ is the first song she performed there and, if you want and have some free time, I recommend it to be watched as an early sample of her genuine and graceful ways to express her artistry without any synth/other elaborate effects). At that time, I was far from home, facing a gloomy winter, and the touch of her unique and gracious voice/demeanour embraced me with her fluid shining Aura that felt like a much welcome visit from a gentle sister🧚‍♀Her organic and dream/trance-evoking vocals create one of those forces of Nature that manages to effectively pull the strings of my soul towards a better place without much effort (they often remind me of the sounds typical of Kulning - if you get curious about this fascinating Scandinavian cultural tradition, I suggest you to check by yourself some videos by the lovely Jonna Jinton: there is one that offers a clear example of it called ‘Kulning - Ancient Swedish herdingcall’). Aurora usually thrives during her live performances with her free style of vocals and unique physical expression that she calls ‘ugly dancing’ (she is very funny, intuitive and authentic). I don’t want to suggest any comparisons, but Aurora managed to enter an adjacent area of my mind where Björk inhabits, which is a huge thing! :) Two of my favourite live performances by Aurora that I strongly recommend to future reactions are the songs 'Lucky" and ‘Through the eyes of a child’ at the Nidarosdomen Concert (in a Norwegian cathedral with her band + ensemble/orchestra + organist + harpist + choir = delightful magic!). OMG Sirrr... I got so excited with your amazing analysis that I could keep writing forever about so many things that you discussed...😅I can’t thank you enough for sharing with us your first exposition to Aurora's wonderful world of art and beauty together with your stunning and always entertaining break down - you're the best❣

Very nice and truly educational reaction.
There are no recordings of her performing before she was 16. Before that, she was very shy about her music (and singing) and had no desire to perform. Even her family knew nothing. At 16, however, she recorded a song as a Christmas present for her parents. She had no intention of releasing it but someone sent it to the radio without her consent and it was the start of no recourse.
On stage here, she is supported vocally by her guitarist, her drummer and her female bass keyboard player. As you rightly point out, the dark "ah" harmonization is a synth voicing.
Where to go from here? There are endless possibilities.
Many will recommend the Nidaros Cathedral concert from 2017. "Through the eyes of a child", "Lucky" etc. However, an interesting concert for a classical musician could be the live stream she did with The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra during the lockdowns.

I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis of this fantastic artist! You won't find any performances of this when she was 11 (it was never her dream to be an artist), but you will find a breakdown of the lyrics she did for Genius, that is on their TH-cam channel. In it, she talks about their inspiration, what they meant, and how the song has changed for her over the years. She said she considers this song a gift from her younger self to her older self.
At the end, I think she was just coming back to reality. She didn't enjoy performing back then, and she was admittedly very nervous at this concert. She would often lose herself in the performance, perhaps as a way of coping, and then you would see her come back to reality at the end, where her shyness and anxiety would come back.

Lovely, insightful reaction! Aurora is pretty unique in so many ways. She will often perform songs differently, so it's worth listening to different performances. She has said that the meaning of this song for her has changed as she gets older. "A gift from little Aurora to big Aurora".
Her music is simple, but delivered in surprising and creative ways. She taught herself to play the piano when she was around 6 and discovered her sister's old electric piano in the attic. The ON button was broken so she had to hold it down with one hand and play with the other. She was exposed to mostly Classical music but also Bob Dylan, Enya and Leonard Cohen (she is obviously inspired by storytellers). Her music has become more complex as she's matured and learned production from others, but it is always uniquely her own. She loves to experiment with sound - she would record sounds that interested her like a light switch turning on and off.
I hope you keep looking into her music. I really enjoyed your analysis. She is best experienced live but that is not to say that her recordings are not good, just that her live performances are amazing. Also, many of her music videos are mini masterpieces.
    Some suggestions:
    Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1

For me it's always funny when ''pro'' discect Aurora music and singning. She is self taught on piano at 6yrs (learn on an old elecrtric piano that she had to hold ON the power button so learn with one hand) just flurting with the key and loving the sound and the silence between those note. She played for herself only, and at 9 she start puting lyric on those melodies and sing for her only, no body in the famely knew. At 14, for a school projet she wrote a song that she played on guitar and without her conscent it was put on FaceBook, that is how it's started. She is a former dancer, trained for 10 years, but never on music or singning, she doesn't know how to read (or write) music but she compose all of her lyric and music. For her everything is feeling, nothing more, but nothing less. Hope you'll keep looking at her catalogue, she is a true artist.

She is different, in many ways. All her songs are different and she constantly changes them. As she sings very much in the moment, her live songs are generally the best. As to her lyrics she sees the world in a different way so they are often deep and deliberately open to your interpretation.
This was from a good concert but her one from the Nidarosdomen is an hour of pure beauty, a masterpiece. Her new work is very exciting to us fans, due out on 7th June.

For comparison (and your information too), check out privately these other live performances, if you wish:
Aurora: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert: th-cam.com/video/evBgLWQwAFA/w-d-xo.html ("Runaway" is the 1st song),
AURORA - Runaway at 101.9 KINK | PNC Live Studio Session (2022): th-cam.com/video/4bbuR-qnFlg/w-d-xo.html
She can vary a lot her way to perform a song live (tempo, instrumentation, mood, etc...), generally in live sessions, or specific concerts. That makes her music as interesting as it is really enjoyable.
As suggestion, maybe another song from this concert, with simply one guitar and two voices:
AURORA - MURDER SONG (5,4,3,2,1) - The 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert: th-cam.com/video/vh0SWTVwXxw/w-d-xo.html
or this one, which is one of her many almost-hidden gems:
Aurora - Dance on the moon (Live) (Existe for love session): th-cam.com/video/jgCMaF9mEFI/w-d-xo.html
Anyway, thanks for this reaction to Aurora, this very creative and endearing Norwegian artist.🙂👍

I'm so glad you got to react to Aurora! Like Dimash, her voice just touches my soul on a spiritual level. I was so lucky to catch her live at one of her concerts in Australia. She draws you in with her singing, even more so in person. A few have recommended Murder Song 54321 from the same concert. I also would recommend the Current live version of It Happened Quiet th-cam.com/video/9U-N6LqzdIM/w-d-xo.html Another great concert to watch would be the entire HAIK concert set in an actual forest th-cam.com/video/8un_miodCoo/w-d-xo.html (The Seed is my fave in this concert - also I would like to acknowledge Silja Sol who did the back up vocals for both this song and It Happened Quiet in the Current live version, also another ethereal voice).
If you have to time, you should also watch some of her interviews both in Norwegian. It almost feels therapeutic hearing her thoughts about the world and herself.
Look forward to watching from Aurora reactions from you! :)

Thank you for your insights on this song and performance. I think you’re right about the la-di-da. That makes the most sense.
Aurora does use a vibrato early in her notes, more often than at the end, which often makes her tone seem very vulnerable. I loved that you mentioned that. She has said her favourite instrument is the voice. Some people has said that not only is she a great storyteller, she is like a «story-painter». So much emotion in her music, body language and voice. She is, in fact, «The voice» in Disney’s Frozen 2, very fittingly.
I totally agree with those saying you should watch «It happened quiet» live at the Current. (I also recommend watching the reaction of the opera singer, «The Charismatic Voice».
Also I think you ought react to «Through the eyes of a child» live at Nidarosdomen (The Nidaros Cathedral). In fact, the whole concert. Also the live versjon of «Soulless creature» from 2020.
I was at a concert, where she also performed a few songs with Stavanger symphony orchestra, where the host said that some of the members of the orchestra particularly were looking forward to playing with Aurora. A clip from that concert is here:

La-di-da can definitely be interpreted in either of the ways you mentioned. To describe an aristocratic person as being la-di-da is a derogative term indicating they don't live in "real life" and just float along with their head in the clouds, not noticing the struggles of the poorer people "beneath" them. Both ways of interpreting the phrase are really the same so you hit the nail on the head really.
Both interpretations can easily demonstrate Aurora's meaning in the verse: placing my sorrow on the farrest [sic] place on my shelf and just bouncing happily along through life, like the upper-class person living in their happy life, not noticing the poverty and struggles around them. Ignoring the problems and believing life is going swimmingly. She is experiencing, as you said, a moment of realisation. The music opens up like clouds parting to let the sunlight through. It's very beautiful to me.
I think you might like to listen to her performances from the Niderosdomen of either, "Through the Eyes of a Child" or, "Lucky". Beautiful performances from a concert she performed in Niderosdomen, Norway's largest cathedral, I think.
Thank you for your analysis. I learned a lot from you.

Aurora performance is of course amazing and i love her music, but your reaction is also very informative and interesting!
Ps. original meaning is about different phases of sorrow and missing somebody and also understanding that you can not run forever from live and you just need "repair" your self and to find this soft place to fall, like for example home (it can be place or a person/persons but not necessary the direct meaning).

Very interesting voice and performance. She may not have many facial expressions, but she is embodying the music and the story she is telling. I think that´s the reason for being barefoot on the stage, to feel the ground, the connection with her surrounding while her attention is in another realm - Angelina Jordan, also Norwegian, does this too. Sandy Shaw performed also barefoot, if I recall it right.

Hi Sir Hairless (and viewers who are reading this). If you like to learn more about the back story of AURORA's song Runaway, I would like to suggest listening to this podcast from June 2021, in which AURORA explains how the song evolved from her first writings as an eleven year old, to the final version of the song that made it to her debut album eight years later: "AURORA - Song Exploder podcast about Runaway" th-cam.com/video/bcCy0mjgHNc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Z3zcQzKugSrlw7jb

Oh my goodness… 😂 “Go to the stamp time here”… and Mr. Yodel Man… SH, I like your cheeky sense of humour. This said, I had the same thoughts and questions that you expressed about Aurora, especially about her static facial expressions vs physicality. She almost looked paralyzed at times. She is lovely, like a little elf with a beautiful voice. She makes me think a lot about Sigrid, another great young Norwegian song writer & singer (Dynamite (acoustic version), Don’t Kill My Vibe). Thank you again. 🤗

Definitely no videos of her at 11, 12, 13 since no-one, her family included, knew that she made music until she at 14 gave her mother a recorded song(she was too self-conscious to sing it live) as a birthday present.

Aurora is autistic. I am autistic too. That's why she is so different in a good way. Difference is beautiful. That's why she moves her hands like this and goes barefoot and always says whatever she thinks. He is unique and adorable.

BTW: She wrote the song when was 11, there is cool genius video where she talk about it and the meaning of the song. She started to make music from age of 6 and English lyrics from 9 years old. But at time she was not an Artist and up to 14 even her parents did not know about it. She become an artist by a chance as someone recorded her in school + one of her songs as a gift from parents was leaked into internet. And management contacted her and her first answer was no. But her mother convinced her that she should not keep her music for herself and share it. Interesting and unique person and Artist and even this starting points sounds interesting :).
EDIT: I wrote second comment as I was at work and needed to pause at 2/3 and finished it now:)

Ok first of all I respect a lot that you say it how it is, what you find weird, what's not your type etc, I love her, I love everything about her, so to me it is hard to comprehend sometimes when people don't, and I think it is part my fault cause I'm biased but also there's fault the other side for not being able to point out what is that is feeling off. You put so well into words what you feel or expect or hear, that I completely understand your point. Some of those things I never noticed.
    Several notes:
    1) The original MV is exactly the same but more produced of course, her voice is heavily produced in the original, the song is not much different (At least to my idiotic ear haha)
    2) I believe the end reaction is a mix of things, but to put is simple she is passing from one state to another (finding out she was with people etc). This is not uncommon with her, as you said well at the beginning, she is a being of light, she is strongly connected with nature, with her emotions, and with music and sounds. Those transport her, the gestures you talk about on her face, or even when she moves her arms like climbing her way on a tree or grabbing the face in the sand, or dancing in the rain, it's because she is living them as she sings them. She is not there, if you focus on her eyes you will see she is not looking anywhere, she isn't looking at people, she is somewhere else. When the song ends, she comes back to "reality", she hears the claps and reacts.
    3) Just like @janiceDAgostino said in comment, I would go "Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1)" next, I don't agree that is the first one people watch, it is between the two, but people mostly watch the two performances from this show first. And then maybe with the version of "It Happened Quiet" live at the Current.
    4) This is live, when you listen to Murder Song you will see this cause at times there's acapella singing and not one noise but her voice. There are effects on her voice but no backing vocals, she has two guys and a girl singing with her, the guitarist, which you will see also in Murder Song, then Marcus that is her manager or whatever it is called, and plays the drums, and the blond girl which at some point in time changes for another one.
    5) She has a rapid vibrato, you will hear songs where she uses vibrato and it is quick, BUT she can regulate it, cause there are bunch of times she uses vibrato in a way more "common way", like most people would use it I believe.
Anyways I appreciate a lot the analysis, regardless the song your teachings are always so intriguing.
    Thank you again!
    Lupe.-

LOve your reaction, you find interesting details that the many do not. Subscribed.
One thing you should know is that this concert was her first really big venue and she was very nervous. One can understand her, with 8000 people present, including price winners, royals, ministers, celebs en masse, AND an estimate of 350 millions watching this live on TVs. The concert host that year was Jay Leno btw.
Thankfully she has grown to now loving to perform live, interact with the audience, and much bigger crowds, really big crowds, selling out everywhere she go, and she really do world tours. Her fans, that she lovingly has named her Warriors and Weirdoes, are numerous in Asia, Australia, North and South America and Europe.
To get to know her better there are TONS of interviews, several in depth documentaries and especially the HAIK docu from NRK is very good, the concert part is done in a forest where she grew up. Make sure you find the one with English subtexts.
Finally, if doing more reactions, for The Seed, The River, Cure for Me and Apple Tree, use her music videos, they are great ART in my eyes, and ears.

Since you reacted to her first big live peformance as a teenager, I highly suggest checking out her most recent live in-studio Vevo performance 9 years later where, as opposed to her relatively reserved physical performance here, her emotions are spilling out all over the place. Just her and a mandolin player who does some magnificent playing and backup. She even forgets to play piano at some point because she's dancing and quickly recovers with a quiver at the lyric "disappear" and a cheeky little mug to the camera. Well worth a watch.

Great, thanks! Not as original as Aurora but one of the best female singers today is Norwegian Angelina Jordan. Now 18 and signed with Republic Records, she won Norway's Got Talent at age 7/8 singing Billie Holiday covers and others. Over 200 videos on You Tube so I'll let you pick something you'd like to hear. But I guess I'll say "Queen" gave her performance copyright for her arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody" presented first on AGT/C age 13.

In 2015, she was only 19 in this performance. Lyrics written seem to get it wrong, because of her accent..she's actually saying "Now take me home, now, now", not ,"No" (as that doesn't really even make sense, and its a plead of Now, now. Others I have seen them written were they will have the "now take me home" correctly but then put "Now take me home, no, no"...but if you listen to the way she sings the first Now, it sounds like no, especially to English speakers. 😊

Great reaction and analysis. :) Aurora is great artist.
Is it possible for you to react to something that probably no one else will recommend? There is amazing japanese folk/pop/classical crossover artist Kokia, even if outside of her own stuff she also composing and performing music to anime and video games, she's not that much famous, what is really sad... I have two live recommendations, if you can react to her, you will choose which song you want to react to. First one is song "Gematria" live from Layers ~Lights and Shadows~ concert 2016, gematria means writing songs by using numbers, for example in english alphabet "A" is "1", "B" is "2" etc, this song is inspired on buddhist mantras and lyrics are in not existing language, more correctly it's mix of few languages like japanese, english, french etc and she also used gematria there, she created it only for this one song, because like she said, emotions are the same in all langauges, I think only she knows true meaninh of lyrics, but this song is like journey, especially this live performance. Second song is "Il Mare Dei Suoni" live from History concert tour 2012, kokia is classically and operatically trained, but it's not her main vocal technique to use, but in this song you can hear her beautiful classical sound, so beautiful soprano, lyrics are full in italian, but you can find english translation, very beautiful song, title means "Sea of sound". You mentioned that Aurora is barefoot, Kokia also performing barefoot, she says it helps her to have better connection with music and audience, she believe that she is better performer then. You can also see that she's moving a lot when she's singing, especially her hands, it's like she's showing you what she's singing, every sound she"s singing, it looks very beautiful in my opinion. And in her music she using many back vocals, all recorded by her, so back vocals you will hear in her live performances are back play. I hope you will react to her, she's so incredible artist, but so underrated... I really want to more people hear her music.

Take notes that she write this song at the age of 9 or 11 i forgot, i think she wrote this when she had a fight with her family (parents or siblings) that makes her feel she doesn't belong there so she want to just runaway from there. I think most children's had that moment in their life at least once 😅
"I kept running for a soft place to fall", running to her room and crying in bed after fight
    Great reaction btw!

I would not normally try and attempt to comment the first time I'm hearing a brand new artist, but then I followed @fredk3710 podcast link and hearing Aurora explain in her own words, my eyes filled with tears. She is a rare gem to be cherished and polished and allowed the freedom to roam as free as her muse and voice will take her. I think I would prefer to explore more of her music, but not with live performances, but rather in a stripped back, simple, lyric only video, so I can focus on her words and style. That may be just me but thank you Sir and for those that recommended this unique-young-old-soul. I intuitively 'got her' without knowing the 'why'. I'm okay with that. :)
