    Loved GTR. One of my favorites. Wish they could've done at least did one more album. But like Steve Hackett said in a another interview it was costly to keep it on the road.

    I saw them live in the UK and they were great. Singer fell over on stage and I'll never forget the look on both their faces - singer recovered very well and he was enthusiastic, but it was a funny moment, yet omg the music they made that night was brilliant. Shame the band didn't go further for a few years. They have both done great music since. I saw Steve Hackett in 2022 Melbourne and Brisbane, did a meet and greet in Malta 2019 which was the best experience of my life ever meeting the musicians etc. Just hoping they both head down under soon. I heard Steve Hackett is doing the Close to the Edge Cruise next year. Oh how I wish I could go.

    Great video. thanks. I think there must be more regarding Hackett's departure from the band. The financial stuff just doesn't make sense. Was there any friction (competition) between the two guitarists? I saw an interview recently regarding the big Yes Reunion Tour which revealed that Steve Howe vehemently denied original Yes Guitarist, Peter Banks to be part of the onstage lineup (even though he was in the audience). What is going on there? I would LOVE to see more informative clips about Progressive Bands like Yes. For example no one has really covered the making of Close to the Edge. Also I hear it is a very interesting story how Trevor Rabin and Yes gradually became one unit to create the most successful album of their career. Keep up the great work

      Thank you for your kind comment. Actually the information of gtr are actually quite uncertain in various of online sources, but I believe the authority answer of it was the operational costs of the group exceeded the profits. Howe wanted to invest in a recording studio, while Hackett planned to purchase better equipment. Coupled with management's demands for various remixes, in a situation where funds were neither coming in nor going out, even tho GTR's reputation is there, Hackett still decided to leave instead trying to increase any debts possible.

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, I agree. In the eighties a lot of pop music was simply money laundering. Depending on percentages, you can be working more and earning less, that happened to all kinds of people. Peopel really aren't aware of how corrupt the entertainment industry is.
      Hackett has said the company was essentially bankrupt. Now given how much money is being made by tours and albums it seems hard to believe "we need to buy equipment" or "we can't afford studio time" is any kind of realistic excuse.
      I suspect since Hackett wasnt a huge name and Howe was, that Hackett maybe had to sign in under less than generous conditions and felt that continuing wasn't going to help.
      EVERYBODY has to put food on the table, so given that he was in a successful band and still thought it better "to work on my own" then obviously there are unknown considerations there. As you say, Howe seems to have a bit of a problem with other guitarists, so I'm kind of suspecting it was a case of Hackett thinking "if I'm not makign BIG money then I'll be damned if I'm going to work with another Tony Banks....and a Tony Banks on my own instrument". But outside Pink Floyd most of these guys really don't like slinging mud much in public, so I suspect its a combination of those two things.

      @@mikearchibald744 That is a massive amount of speculation. I see no legitimate reason to doubt what he said. It was not going to be financially viable. And in fact, it was going to be significant financial loss. Why would he stay in a band that was only going to incur financial debt to him?

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Dirgnimai7 Yeah, thats why I wrote 'I suspect". But how often do you hear artists say "Boy I hope I can have a hit album so we can go bankrupt"

    • @bookhouseboy280
      @bookhouseboy280 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Howe explained that he and Hackett approached their collaboration from different perspectives. Hackett had grown accustomed to working independently with his own band, while Howe had been in long-term band commitments and viewed himself as maybe more of a team-oriented player. He said that he took responsibility for any issues that arose, stating that he may have needed to make more effort to accommodate Hackett's preferences as Hackett increasingly distanced himself from the project. As far as Howe and Banks are concerned, the former to my knowledge has always been complimentary of the latter who has, well, not always done the same. According to Banks' former bandmates in Yes and Flash, he was not easy to get along with and apparently self-medicated with booze.

      Bought the album (though it’s spent most of past 35+ years sitting on the shelf). Bought it because I loved both Howe in Yes and Hackett in Genesis. Still do (the 1970s era). Still listen to 1970s Yes and Genesis. IMHO, that music stands the test of time.
      GTR. Bacon sung well enough. Howe and Hackett played well enough. But there was simply no magic there. Certainly nothing like 1970s Yes and Genesis magic.
      At least Hackett managed to pull off a mean Clint Eastwood impersonation.
