Check out what gold this tire caught!

  • Can an old tire catch gold? Sure it can! Many natural and unnatural items in the bottom of a river can act as a gold trap. Depending on their shape and where they are in the river. As well if the river is actively moving gold. Some items can catch a lot, some a little. Check out what this tire caught on my Thompson river claim.

@@easternwoods4378 That makes perfect sense and I'm sure everyone agrees except for the heavy tire thing. It is hard to believe you'd carry a tire that big over all those rocks or even if found it a couple of miles in, in order to maintain your creed.

Gold comes from rivers??? Nah, not for that whiny butt. Donivan Gardner has such intellectual caliber, he probably thinks gold comes from the jewelry counter at his local Walmart. He's too privileged to do a little hard, but enjoyable work.

I've removed over 150 tires from the lake and river near my home. They wash out of the American River Canyon into Folsom Lake in flood years. They range from ATV tires to semi truck tires and everything in between. I have found that it is much easier to roll them out, sometimes miles, than to carry them. The only time I carry them is if they are no longer round.
Thank you for taking that one off of that beautiful river.

    Dan,
    I have a theory.
I propose the torus-like shape of the tire, with the water coming over the rocks in a waterfall-like fashion could have caused a downward turbulence sufficient to cause any material blow back out, keeping material from settling inside while the water was running fast {and carrying gold}. As the water slowed, the turbulent action decreased, with less action it was no longer strong enough to keep the material from settling in; being slower water it could only carry lighter material, mostly. Those few specks you found could have been stuck to a piece of clay as it traveled(??). That also explains why you found so many sticks that float on top of the water too.
Or, I could be wrong, but it makes to the internal cartoon running in my brain.
    Alan
P.S. Hope you're getting stronger everyday after your surgery. Prayers to you and your family during the holiday season.
Get healthy so you can get back out there getting some shiny and filming it for us to enjoy too.

Hi Dan, I really enjoyed the episode! I thought for sure there would be more gold in the tire. Which got me thinking. What if we were to drill hole around the tread. Starting with a larger bore at the top and narrowing as we reach the bottom. Maybe leave a three inch "trap" at the bottom. Just jotting down an idea, actually. Keep up the good job and thank you.

Dan!! Please do NOT try and drag the tyre out, PLEASE!! I'm with you with your crook back and age, but we find ways around getting things done. But your heart mate, there are no warnings!! If the tyre needs to be removed, please wait for a couple of young fellas come down with you and they can drag it out. Mate I'm begging you to take care of yourself. I know, in our minds, we are 10ft tall and bulletproof, but our bodies have different ideas.

Thanks Dan, for taking the tire. I always appreciate when you take the lead and mercury out of the rivers too. I never complain when someone doesn't take the garbage out with them. That is a matter of personal limitations and choices. But I do complain when someone leaves garbage behind when they are done. -BTW- I did notice in your closing shot you left your pan and classifier behind. I'm not complaining, just saying you probably should have included the shot of you grabbing them too in your video.
When I am out exploring I always try and bring what I can out when I leave even if it is just a few bottle caps. Biggest thing I ever brought out was a small chunk of shed roof that had ended up in my favorite river from a big storm a week earlier. It was only about 6'x 8' but it was almost impossible to get out by myself and carry all my stuff back too. It just broke my heart to see it in my favorite fishing hole. I couldn't leave it. I doubt I could do that now 20 years later.

Hello again Dan! I'm feeling a little jealous that you have those fun areas in BC to explore! Yet I do have a question for you. From all of the claims you personally own and worked on over the years; what would you say is a decent percentage or ratio of magnetic black sand to non-magnetic black sand would represent the average of all gold barring rivers and streams in BC? I was just wondering! Would it be like 40 %, 50% or 62%? A 1:2 ratio or 2:1 ratio? Make sure to not ruin your back - mon ami!

    Great video Dan. Thank you.
You brought something to mind though. I was told a while back about a "miners bank" holes drilled in the bedrock in a drop off in the stream preferably at a bend or high rock bank where gold would possibly collect. The you go back and clean it out and voila you caught some gold that would have washed down stream. Don't know if this is something true but thought I would put it Out there. Again great work Sir.

I don't know if a claim is a secret place but if not you can always invite all your fans for a cleaning day at the river doing the hard work. And you tell stories and do bbq and Q&A in the breaks and record everything for us.

Wow Dan Hurd, I've been watching your videos for a Long time. You do alot of prospecting in that area. I believe the bottom of that river has to be loaded with gold.👍😋

About 3.5 mins in when panning first pan, it could easily be someone panning for gold 150 years ago. Just one person with a pan trying to find a few pieces of gold. Cool.

Don't worry about the haters so much, you do what you can and if they are so concerned, let them come out and clean it up. From your videos, it is obvious that you care alot about the environment. Keep up the great work and I can't wait for the next adventure!

Hey Dan, thanks for the nice video! We have a lot of debris that gets dumped by some of the worthless trash around here as well. Once or twice a year, our local Boy Scouts pick areas to go clean up for merit badges. You might be able to have a local outdoor club do something similar. Or offer extra credit for students who clean up a section of road or river.
P.S. You can make some awesome sandals out of the treads of that tire. I regularly gather up "Asphalt Alligators" that are in good condition. A bit of nylon webbing or paracord, and voila!

Most of these rivers seem only to contain flecks of tiny gold.
In the way past or last century was there larger chunks of gold found?
