When I was out a couple days ago I complimented a lady on her gorgeous pants. They were a true royal blue and just beautiful. But what really sticks with me was her reaction- she seemed completely shocked to be getting a compliment from a stranger. We need to put more kind energy out there when we see people in person. If you're thinking something nice, go ahead and say it! :)

I can't get over the fact that the person went out of their way to even comment about it. Why couldn't they just unsubscribe and leave it at that.
I also have been watching Emily for a few years and I just adore her. I remember the summer night on vacation clicking around on TH-cam about something and Emily came up. I had NO idea there was this huge beauty community out there!!! I think this is about 5-6 yrs now or more. AHHH! The ELF small tapered what a classic! I bought that years ago on your recommendation and I'm still using it! I have used it for so many things! I have an extra that just stays in my travel bag because I can use it for almost all of my face (powder, contour, blush, highlight).

I love this! I was thinking the other day I needed to go through my brushes and really de-clutter and get rid of brushes I'm not really using. Good reminder that I'm sure I have too much.
Amy J I have a plastic bin the size of a shoebox half full of brushes and I've given a lot away lol, but I'm lazy and don't wash them as often as I should so I'm always out of clean enough brushes. It's mostly eye brushes tbh bc foundation brushes, good ones that don't cost a limb are hard to find. With all the less expensive ones I've tried I could have bought at least 3 Sigma F-whatever the number is flat tops that everyone raves about. But I'm stubborn.

Hey Emily my biggest problem with doing eye makeup is not with application/blending ( which is what most beginner makeup tutorials are directed at) my problem is with picking the colors. I have trouble finding which shades would look good together. Could you maybe do a video on that? Thank you much love ❤️❤️❤️

I'm swatching them next to each others on my hand before putting on my eye or trying to recreate color combo from the pics I've saved. If you have time you can check out the color wheel to see which color is opposite (has max contrast) to what, or even print some makeup templates on paper and try combos on them.

I give random people compliments all the time, but honestly, most of them do look shocked. I saw a senior lady recently with the cutest little car EVER, and she was so tickled when I stopped her in the parking lot to say how beautiful her little car war. She took the time to tell us all about it, and it made me and my daughter's day. 😊

On another rainy day, you make it a little brighter. I hardly use eyeshadows, but you got me to dabble a little with just two shades. I used That’s Heart highlighter from Elf for my eyes.
I love how simple you made it, and that you don't need so many brushes to get a great makeup look. My friends are always asking me what type of brushes I recommend, and I always mention Elf and Real Techniques. When I tell them it's makeup just have fun, they look at me like I'm crazy.
It's sooo wonderful that you review new products, but also cater to the woman on a budget. In this day & age of buy, buy, buy, it's nice to see someone who can just as easily (& happily) go back to basics.😉
I have green eyes and love wearing a bright shimmery light green on my lids. Then adding gold to the inner corners really gives a bigger eye look. Thank you for sharing!
I just want to add, if you’re more dry like me you can absolutely use a beauty sponge for a LOT. I use mine for foundation, concealer, setting my concealer and T zone with powder, cream bronzer/contour, and cream highlight. I also go back over powder products with my sponge to make sure they’re blended and meld with the skin.
I love this, my mother tends to hate using a bunch of brushes so I will be getting her these to simplify her makeup. Problem now is to make her clean her brushes.. she never washes them!
Cristal Y. Villanueva my mother in law, when I told her how to wash the brushes I have her, said "you're supposed to wash these things?" She's in her 60s and has never washed a makeup brush!

Emily earlier this morning I was watching your video from a few months ago all about the Instapop brushes because I have still been thinking about trying them. This video gave me the extra info I needed- so happy they can be used for so many different purposes! The Instapop cheek brush looks like it would be great for some of my subtle blushes I want to amp up a few notches so they show up on my face. When real techniques goes buy one get one half off the next time there are some new brushes I will have to try! The eye brushes look so useful too because they look like they would just fit so perfectly in your eye crease and make eyeshadow application so much easier. I have a ton of brushes already, so I really don’t “need” any, but I am all about buying more brushes so I can wash them less 😂 Thanks for the recommendations! And I will have to try the Milani lip glosses and blush palettes from your video earlier this week. I think I have a haul coming up :) And that Becca lip gloss is gorgeous too! I am also having my own lip gloss renaissance after seeing your rediscovered lip glosses :)
I love using as few brushes as possible to do an eye look. I feel like ppl are way too obsessed with one brush performing a solitary function and that's it. Brushes are versatile. Multi-task away! Great video!

This is a great video. I really love how you went into a lot of detail about how to use each brush in multiple ways and give really good explanation while you use them, instead of just saying 'here are 5 brushes you can use to do your full face of makeup'.
I bought those eye brushes at your suggestion from an earlier video. And I swear, they were game changers for me. My hands have become just a tiny bit shaky over the years, and I didn't think they were still capable of some of the smaller details in an eye shadow look. But those two brushes make it happen with a lot more ease than I was expecting -- love them! Thanks, Emily.
You have always been a reliable source for affordable cosmetics ,brushes ,skin care etc. To this day I use the Walmart brand of the Olay cleansing cloths that you recommended years ago and love them and have more than one of my friends hooked on them too! Thank you for always being real and honest!

I have enjoyed lots of the elf brushes. I have a elf crease blender brush rear has taken a lot of beating. You won't believe, but I have a blush brush that I have had since 1992, has been such a great blush brush. Some brushes can take the beating and I like to wash my brushes at least twice a month, otherwise my face will start breaking out. I love make up. Been wearing make up since I was. 12. At 12, aAll I wore was lip gloss and a little blush, then gradually moved to full face make up. I will be 88, and still be applying my full face make up. Thanks. God always bless you.

When I first started watching TH-cam you were one of the beauty guru I watched. There were 3 products I always identified with you. They were Benefit erase paste, Milani eyeshadow primer and the ELF small stipple brush. Watching this video those products reminded me of them.

Wow! During an office Christmas party, I brought a bunch of brushes with me. It was quite of a hassle but came in handy at the same time because a teammate borrowed one of the eye brushes. But this is really helpful. Thank you so much for the tips!
Such great info, as always!!! I have bought so many brushes that I don't use. It's really great to see the stand out ones that get the job done! I have a Tarte Brush shaped like the one you used for foundation. And, you made me realize I'm totally using it wrong!
I also use the Instapop eye brushes, and I have the largest orange face brush as well. They truly are a fantastic line of drugstore/affordable brushs! Best part is, when you're shopping at Ulta, they work with the flyer coupon, as well as the ELF brushes.
I usually just dab on blush on my eyes most days so oftentimes one eye brush is enough. Recently though I've added new brushes to my collection via a very cheap set (10 face/eye brushes for less than 8 dollars!). I still want to whittle it down to only two main eye brushes as well.
I only use one brush for my setting/light coverage powder and blush too. And then I pinch that same brush when I want to add some highlight, haha. This was a very timely video. Thanks, Jen and Emily!

I like seeing what is the must have brushes for people. I skip foundation brush because I apply with my fingers. Then a blush/shimmer brush, a contour brush (optional if I don't feel like doing a contour), 3 eyeshadow brush (1 overall lid brush, 1 dark shadow/outer corner brush, and 1 blending brush)

I really enjoy E.L.F brushes. Especially, the ones with the black handles..they’re super affordable and can be found at the drugstore.
