It's strange for me to hear such suspicion reflected about this but I guess it's understandable. I was blown away when I was invited to be a part of this soundtrack recording project. I had no idea it would reach as many as it has and as I said, I had given up on the idea of ever hearing what my part in this project would actually sound like. I was offered no copy of the finished project to be able to hear how my part was used in the final mix. So, this is a real treat to finally hear. I still don't know how the rest of my input was used for this soundtrack. I guess the only way to know for certain is to find someone who knows how to play the game's various levels and sit next to them as they play while I record the variations of the soundtrack within each level, but given that I don't know of anyone who's played the game, I'll likely never get that chance. Nevertheless, it would be nice to hear.
+Reggie Miles Hmm try looking up "Hard Rain menu theme" as well as "Hard Rain horde theme." Both of these tracks use the same instrument so it very well may be you playing. Also, it's not that I don't trust you, but I don't trust anyone on the Internet. It's so easy to lie about anything online.
+er1c1996 Thanks! I was initially hired for this project due to my ability to play musical saw. I'm the foremost musical saw artist in the Pacific NW. The composer wanted to include the eerie sound of the saw in some capacity for the soundtrack. I didn't know what his intended use for it was at the time but as I recently discovered, he ended up using it for one of the main themes, the Dark Carnival theme. That's me playing bowed saw in that theme. And again, I had no idea how he used it until just recently, when, at the suggestion of a friend, I checked and found these posts on YT. I love how he mixed my efforts with the strange drones in the background and in the case of the Dark Carnival theme, that crazy tuba or sousaphone accompaniment. Then, when he heard that I played bottleneck slide guitar and because the game was set in the Deep South, the birthplace of bottleneck slide Blues, he also invited me to work with my guitar for the project. I spent 8 hours in the studio with him that day. Until finally, my high E string broke and none of the three spares that I brought with me were able to handle the tension load. The string that broke was from a very expensive set and I didn't have a similar spare on hand to use to replace it with, only some lesser quality strings. My guitar strings were under a high tension load. That was due to the composer asking me to play in the key of A. Because of the open tuning approach that I normally use, it meant that my guitar had to be tuned higher to reach the key of A. That higher tuning placed a great deal of extra stress on the strings. My string broke just when I was about to share something that I had developed independently, between takes, that was sounding very sweet. ARG!

Pretty much every leg in the Left 4 Dead (1 and 2) survivors' journeys have been caused by bad luck (The Death Toll boat leaving them for dead, Rescue 7 leaving them behind in Dead Center, the L4D survivors raising the bridge in The Passing, all those plane and chopper ctashes, etc.). But Hard Rain is BY FAR the one that has it the most. ● Virgil runs out of fuel ● Nick forgets the group's guns and flares in the boat ● The Burger Tank isn't open. Poor Coach ;( ● The gas station is empty, so they have to go another one 2 miles away ● Witches like sugar ● The rain floods everything and impairs their sgiht and hearing

@Matthew Polston, your question regarding what key I'm playing in is a bit complicated to answer. The key is A Minor. However, my guitar was tuned in an Open E Minor format, which was tuned up five half steps to bring it that Open A Minor. This placed a tremendous amount of tension on my strings. I had to purchase a very expensive set of Thomastik guitar strings ($25 per set) just for the .009 high E string, which seemed to be the only brand which had a high E string that would not snap while under that level of tension. At that time I was already regularly playing in Open Ab Minor. I managed to push all of the rest of the strings the extra half step to Open A Minor, except the high E string. That extra half step was too much for most of the high E strings that I found being sold at local music stores. That is, until I was offered a set of Thomastik guitar strings. So, I would suggest you simply choose a different key but use the same tuning format. Open E Minor will afford you the same results without having to spend $25 for a high E string that can handle the tension level needed to do what I did. Fortunately, the string lasted for 8 hours in the studio before it finally broke but sadly I didn't have a spare to continue and it was a Sunday evening. So the music stores had closed. I should also point out that I was playing my own homemade resophonic guitar. A National/Dobro hybrid, I call it my Nobro. I fingerpick and play bottleneck slide style. So, I used an independent thumb bouncing off a couple of the bass strings, like the two lower As while in Open A Minor (AEACEA) as I tickled and slid on the high E string, playing the melodic line that the composer taught me. It's a little challenging to explain in text exactly how I play because I've rarely done so to teach what it is that I do, when I play, to others. Because of how my guitar is tuned in that particular format (bass side)> AEACEA, I will sometimes grab two strings at a time, like the two lower As, or the two Es, or the middle and high As, to flesh out a move. I call this approach of plucking the two string octaves, playing couplets but that term is a misnomer. There are several ways to vary this idea in this tuning. I used this approach during some of what I played in the studio when this was captured. I hope this explanation wasn't clear as mud and may have helped you to understand some of what I was doing musically as I played this in the studio.
