Great tip on changing these oils way sooner than the service manual says. I've always swapped out everything, engine oil, trans, diff, steering fluid, trans, transfer case, brake...anything that's "wet" at least 1/3 sooner than "recommended". I don't have problems with my vehicles. I look at it like it's clean blood.
That's a great way to look at it! And no harm in changing sooner... it's incredible how extended the recommended manufacturer intervals are (too many miles). Good stuff
Do you have to remove the cover to drain these, or can you just do a drain and fill? I've got the same truck, 2022 model that I use to haul a truck camper as well. I haven't changed mine, but would like to be able to do it myself.
You always have great content. I have the Sterling also and also did it early like you . And used the Amsoil 75 90 . Next time I may go to their 75 110 just for kicks . So on the front differential is it always spinning? I know the hubs aren't unless your in 4 wheel drive . Hope I worded it right , the gears in the case .
Thanks!! Keep us updated if you go to a heavier weight gear oil. Curious if there would be any noticeable changes. Front differential is only spinning in 4wd or if the front hubs are locked. They auto lock (via vacuum) when shifting in 4wd. So you can wait longer between servicing (if not using 4wd frequently). Good thought...
@@TruckCamper thanks for the reply , I also drained the transfer case of the factory fluid and put the Amsoil Signature Series ATF . Why Ford is so hung up on Semi synthetic fluids is beyond me .
@@kenj.8897 That's a good idea. Planning to service the transmission and transfer case soon. Curious to see how they are wearing... it is strange where ford uses synthetic and doesn't. Rear diff is synthetic factory but not the front
I recently asked Ford what is done at 10k and to my surprise their answer was "nothing really". Is it possible to have Ford replace any of their fluids w/full synthetic (oil is synthetic already)?
That's basically true until 100k miles. But it is wise to service differentials, transfer case and transmission every 30-50k miles if you plan to own long term. Rear differential has synthetic already. Front is not. You'd need to ask your dealer. Sometimes they will service with customer provided fluid as well. Hope that helps!

Yes. There is no drain plug so you do need to remove the cover. Definitely a good DIY project. Let me know how it goes
You can suck out through the fill hole , but you may only get 80% or so out . Plus all the crud on cover is still there
