Robert Greene ON: The Laws of Mastery, Power and Human Nature & Harnessing Your Dark Side For Good

  • Robert Greene sits down with Jay Shetty to talk about our inner power. How we react to situations, the emotions we pour in, and the amount of control we have over our reactions defines how much power we have over ourselves. When you’re out of control and not in tune with your reality, you become toxic and this toxicity feeds your greed which eventually destroys that raw power within you.
Robert is the author of the New York Times bestsellers The 48 Laws of Power, The Art of Seduction, The 33 Strategies of War, The 50th Law, and Mastery. In his book, The Laws of Human Nature, he turns to the most important subject of all - understanding people’s drives and motivations, even when they are unconscious of them themselves.

    What We Discuss:
    00:00 Intro

07:01 The misconception of having power
10:55 Nobody thinks of power in a positive sense
16:32 The person who talks less usually has the most influence
20:24 The people without self control are often greedy
23:51 Learn the art of insinuation and persuasion
27:14 What does it mean to plan the end?
36:51 How do you master the art of timing?
42:25 The story of the checkered shirt
    47:46 Having empathy for others
    52:07 Zen Buddhism meditation
55:29 What gets you what you want is your daily habits
58:32 The most toxic people are of narcissistic characteristics
01:08:15 It doesn’t to be a little bit wary of someone
01:11:40 Inability to adapt to circumstances destroy our own power
01:16:49 With success, you become conservative

Hum I've been at close range to competitive people and toxic people and they think about everything in terms of 'winning', in those cases the best win is to be rid of them. As long as the win you want is on your own terms, to your own goals, that realy is winning. Winning does not mean achieveing a goal set up bu others to their benefit.

One of the reasons why people think "crush your enemy totally" law is evil is because they only see enemy in human form. Eg. Make laziness, poverty, etc your enemy then that law will have a different meaning.

I went to Amazon and bought his books. Thank you..these are the topics I am interested in, because I had been naive about true human nature (power politics) for a very long time...and had been scape goat on many occasions...now, all I am focused on is studying human psyche.
    Thank you 🙏

I’m a fan of Robert Greene, He see human as they are. Not sugar coated and see the desire we have not as something dirty or embarrassing. I think you have to be really honest with yourself and acknowledge your true desire. Working towards them is what lead you to fulfilling life. His book could help us notice if we are being manipulated or used and also giving us the theory to do so. It depends on how you will use it. You could use the knowledge for something good and as he said most nastiest people actually don’t need his book about manipulation. They learn it naturally.
Also good job to Jay. This is actually his first podcast I ever watched and I’m impressed at the quality of his questions. I think it’s one of the best podcast of Robert Greene I ever watched.

Hello Jay. This is the first time I am at your channel. I really admire Robert Greene and read 48 laws in 2000 before it became popular. He has always been somewhat of a 'mentor from a distance' to me. I just wanted to say, I've watched a lot of Robert Greene interviews in youtube and yours is by far the most insightful and coherent. I'm really enjoying how you are making connections and asking really piercing questions. You've got a new subscriber. Seriously I want to watch the interviews for your questions and how you piece things together, than their responses. Thanks for making such great content

Great subject. Every action we take is a power play. Every word we speak is too. We catagorize people in our minds as them having power over us or us having the power. The trick is to surround yourself with those people whom you feel equal to.

Love and gratitude to Robert Greene and Jay Shetty, both Idols of mine! I am currently reading 48 laws of power and the Art of Seduction and it changed my perspective completely. "Those who love peace must learn to organize as effectively as those who love war." from ML. King as Jay mentioned it brings it so perfectly on point and I'm definetely gonna use that phrase to impress some girls lol. Love your podcast!
