I actually love this game's rebooted story. It is, at least, better than having the Federation itself responsible for the alien invasions all just to go after an ancient artifact which caused the latter in the first place.
If you overlook the fact that he works for an aggressive alien empire, Varanis can be considered brave, determined, and willing to die for his mission. From the perspective of his own people, he was the hero who allowed his people to finally invade Earth after countless millennia. It's an example of how personal opinions become in war.
You and I watched very different cutscenes. 42:08 doesn't exactly scream "heroism". ("Your leaders will fall / Your women will mourn / Your children will weep.") Plus, it's hard to view anyone who's invading another planet for the purpose of genocide as noble, even among their own (equally-ignoble) people.
@@ferd617 That's what I mean by how PERSONAL opinions get in war. To civilians like us, he's just a crazy warmonger. To soldiers, he has the qualities of a hero. In World War 2, the Germans were dehumanized in war propaganda to make American soldiers think of them as less than human and therefore easier to kill.
@@ferd617 I said from the perspective of HIS OWN PEOPLE. Of course, he isn't a hero to his enemies (and to the player). As I said, war easily becomes a matter of perspective and where you stand.
@@ferd617 Wars follow the same propaganda, during invasions. "We're the good guys. Look at those savages. We owe it to the world to kill them." Meanwhile, private companies offer to "support the men and women that risk their lives for our freedom," in exchange for multimillion dollar contracts, of course.
Well we get to see how Brad Fang came to be and Sheena makes her cameo. I wonder what will be next for the storyline in the possible sequel to this game since this is a new timeline.
i wonder if that doctor from 52:22 is the same one from hard corps? aka the one that betrayed contra to bahamut also i highly doubt they will do a timeline BS!
@@keronstewart9446 This is a new timeline anyways so it is a new series. For now we just have to wait for the second game to see how they adjust the story since they want to atleast have a story players can follow for this reboot.
Huge Contra Fan during childhood but back in The 1990s’ when I first played it actually, but will the game’s physical copy version be available in actual stores?
to be honest, i assumed that this was the mission that lance died and in turn became a villain & started the whole #ContraShatteredSolider saga! though at least we know how she died and in turn, that doctor made a bioroid version of her!
Okay how does an alien hivemind have have individuals with individuality using terms like "I/me/my" aren't they suppose to be a collective consciousness? Let alone identify as an empire?
I would think of the alien hivemind of something like the strogg from quake 2 and 4. There is a device call the Nexus which processes the thoughts of billions of strogg who are actually the victims of those they conquer. The Zagard Empire should also have something similar as well.

I guess my point is, "brave, determined, willing to die for his mission" ... those *aren't* positive traits to be admired, if it's a shitty mission.

@@orrthehunter i just hope this doesn't lead to Shattered Soldier, which leads to Bill having to put down Lance Twice.
31:10 - So, what I'm getting here is that X-FLO stands for "eXposition - Full Lore Overload"

just gonna point this out, but if you play as ariana after stage 3 you'll get a different dialogue.
