It may be good education to slurp the noodles, but those munchie sounds while speaking are soooo disgusting. I agree with you, the chef must be thinking enjoy it quietly you moron XD
An apprentice of the legendary Jiro Ono. Even the restaurant is a replica of Jiro's, truly the greatest sushi chef of the past 100 years if not the greatest sushi chef ever.
killbodies34 sushi isn't a "fast food", If u wanna make a delicious sushi, u need to pay more attention on the steps of choosing the fish and the rice.
***** Where did you get that from? Sushi is eaten cold, that's the reason why you haven't seen any japanese women preparing sushi, because their hands are too warm. (traditional rule)
Sushi is one of those types of cuisine that is actually fairly easy to learn how to do on a basic level, but takes literally decades to become a master. It's all about gut feeling, knowing exactly how thick each cut of fish should be, exactly the right amount of Wasabi and Ginger, and getting the rice absolutely perfect. People think it's easy to make Sushi on this level, and they are very wrong.
+Lucas Ng I can "cook" the same shit at home. Actually, what is there to cook? Lol. BTW - Whatever happened to "Blowfish" because I would like to see the Master Chef mess up...
+Roman Romero Whatever dude... (With your highly sophisticated response, you clearly have some soul searching to do.) There is no fucking relationship between fish and chef.
It's good to know by the time I get to japan Jiro's legacy will live on in his apprentices. I immediately recognized Jiro's style in this chef. The very least the host could have done was dressing a little more formal/casual in respect to the chef who's clearly passionate at what he does for a living.
Just shows peoples passion for cultural foods. I WANNA TRY IT!!;) Lol his face after he takes every bite and description of the food taste!:) I am a lover of food and I wanna try this lol not just anywhere but a sushi master:)
You shouldn't smell the Nigiri or the Sashimi, it's very disrespectful. What is says to a true chef is that you don't trust the fish is fresh. It is culture to not smell the fish before you consume it. Please be more respectful.
Old comment BUT, for americans it shows that he not only wants to try the food, but wants to feel the whole experience in smelling and feeling the food. This shows FOR AMERICANS a higher respect to the cook.
Otaku Dragon, Your lack of social professionalism is beyond the charts. Ultimate hypocrisy is stained all over you. I hope you are joking. Because Eldo Baidowi speaks the truth. And learn to properly insult for right reasons.
damn ... he smells food before eating ... It should be called primivite launch with sushi master . Noone smells food , it looks like he checks if it is fresh . SO PRIMITIVE . WHERE IS KETCHUP?
actually the PERFECT guy for this review, and that sushi chef is lucky to have him. ANDREW ZIMMERN is a world famous chef. He owns his OWN restaurants, he's an EXPERT chef/culinary genius, a food show, personality/director/producer, entrepreneur, has wriiten books, he's a journalist and has traveled the world, and he's a teacher. People say he's one of the most influential celebrity chefs in the world! Do some research dude.
I mean all of these people saying how hes putting his elbows on the table and smelling the food, not mentioning rice, etc etc. None of the mentioned the fact that he pointed his pinky at the chef at the end. In Asian countries pointing the pinky is equivalent to the middle finger but with a more insulting connotation. So much RIP
Xiia0Sn00pY Yes, if you can taste the difference between direct touch and touch with rice, enjoy it. But as I said anywhere else, dipping in soy sauce and putting into mouth with twisted arm is difficult or risky if you use chopsticks.
People complaining that the American had his elbow on the table and was sniffing the food but I just saw a video where Rene interviewed Jiro and his son and Jiro's son had his elbow on the table and Rene was also sniffing his food And in both videos, I didn't get the slightest hint that the Japanese sushi chefs were mad. Plus, I went to Jiro's last year and saw no hostility towards such manners. So...I think it's fine.
+Daniel Czarnik its kindve true though, if you have the sushi cold it will taste different then if he prepared it with his barehands. (him preparing it with his hands is obviously the better choice)
Sushi is all about small details including the warmth of chef's hand. Japanese culture is mostly about finding beauty in details that can be overlooked but appreciated if found out.
Being an Asian person myself I have to disagree with you because there are some manners style that to me are unnecessary and not a big deal like the one you said with elbows on the table.
Wanlop Anongchanya Maybe it's unnecessary for you and the culture you grew up on, but it's not for Japanese culture. For instance, for us Japanese, slurping noodles isn't a big deal at all. More like it's the right manner, but for Americans, you know. So it's not for you to decide that Japanese elbow thing is necessary or not for Japanese. I see what you were trying to say tho.
Just to let you know if I can select which race I want to be I would either pick Thai (as I am right now) or Japanese, Korean, and Hawaiian. Love these races. But Japanese foods is number 1 in my list. Japanese and Korean women are the hottest. And Hawaiian so I can born and live there forever lol love Hawaii Islands. Never been to Japan and Korea but I will one day. I can't RIP if I don't visit those two counties.
Daniel Choy Everything is psicological my friend , mind is the most powerfull tooll, we think our mind an thoughts are pontless, but actually they create our reality.
kira yoshikage There are many grades of Sushi restaurant.Price range are very wide.(Quality is also)I recommend $50 class Sushi. It's enough to satisfing for almost Japanese.Gotham Knight is not telling a lie.But it's Ginza price.
Maybe the Japanese should un-clench a little bit. This guy is heaping praise on every single food item that comes out. He clearly loves both the food and the experience. I understand Japanese manners differ from Western, but come on.
***** He is a guest in this sushi diner and it should be an honor for him. Therefor it's expected to respect the other culture and to inform yourself...
Zsame thing I thought Its simply disgusting seeing him eat with his hands.. Where the fuck you think you are? And plus he looks like Hank from Breaking Bad
"De-boning the tiniest piece of squid"??? (2:33) After about 30 seconds watching this video I thought, "this guy seems like he doesn't have a clue what's going on", but I gave it a fair shake....until he said that. Despite the fact that he clearly has no idea how to eat sushi, he then uses the word De-boning and squid in the same sentence. Anyone with a high school education should know a squid has no bones, and to make a video about sushi and then clearly show your ignorance about fish anatomy??? Come on. Watching this a second time you can see that the chef looks almost insulted that this is even happening.
NickLiang Rice is pretty much carb/starch filler in sushi just like bread and potatoes in other countries. I'm not saying the rice is unimportant, though.
Well, you guys are entitled to your opinions but I would respectfully point out that no sushi chef in Japan would agree with that. I've been to Japan about 5 times and every chef I've spoken to takes much more pride in his rice than in his fish.
Daniel Kim Completely agree. My Uncle is a Sushi Chef and he never lets me forget, Sushi is rice, when he first trained he was required to wash and cook rice for 3 years before he was allowed to touch the fish. The marinade, quality of rice, combination of different grains and technique used to cook the rice is what defines a Sushi chef.
NickLiang Couldn't agree more. What is Sushi without Rice? To all those who don't give a shit about rice in sushi, then watch a sashimi video. By the way, Japan has the best variety of rice in the world for me.
I mean, at least tell him "eat the piece of sushi with the fish side twoards the tongue" I'm not asking for a full course of sushi tradition and etiquette :'(
+JJames666male Who the fuck cares. He's not trying to be disrespectful, not everyone has to act the exact same way and no there are no rules to eating. If a chef discriminated against eating techniques then he'd be a shit chef.
+Ryan Du I agree, I never understood how that's supposed to be rude. I mentioned in my own comment too that it's a bar counter, not a high table. The counter in front of him is low to his chest, so it would be awkward to not be able to put your entire forearm on it.
Why are so many people criticizing his manners? Has anyone on earth had meals in as many countries and with such a variety of people as Andrew Zimmern? He is always very polite and grateful.
I don't know man, I just wasn't convinced Zimmerman truly loved it.. or even liked it! he kept doing weird faces and his reactions were really delayed.
Uni Midna He also makes those faces. He probably literally had an orgasm eating food like this after having to eat octopus sperm cereal or chicken blood milkshakes or whatever the hell else this show can dig up for him
Uni Midna It's a show. I'm sure he had to hold it until the camera sets up perfectly and then enjoy it. Unlike most of the bozos in this comment section, he is indeed a chef. He can appreciate high caliber food as much as he can appreciate the poor finding nutrition where they can.
Ihaba S That andrew zimmern just keeped shooking his head for 14 fucking seasons random saying "delicious", "fantastic", and the same words every time, regardless of what he was disgustingly chewing on his mouth, from penises of random exotic animals to street food to a fucking soup of blood and dirt (season 4, episode 1, tanzania). It's despicable watching he eating a delicate and delicious food like sushi (this in particular made by one of the best sushi chef in the world) in that rough manner and having the same reaction of when he ate that soup. I too believe, SINCERELY, that he's enjoying that sushi, but those manners get anyone really pissed off. Just look at the face of the chef at 0:42, he REALLY wants to ram his samurai sword down his fat ass throat.
Seeing all of these comments about how apparently rude and disrespectful the host was makes someone who is not used to eating sushi (like me) nervous to try it because I might disgrace the sushi chef or something. I think you guys need to calm down just a tad and realize that he is from a different culture, and no disrespect was intended. He just wanted to eat some good food man
He has his elbows on the table, talks with his mouth full, refers to the chef in third person when he's right there, and eats the sushi wrong (the least offensive thing). Pretty rude if you ask me
why was the guy shaking his head like he was saying no? I know it probably wasn't intentional but damn it wouldn't blame the chef for reading his body language the wrong way
Although i am jealous, im just pointing out basic facts. Hasn't your mother taught you any table manners? He literally has both elbows on the table, while speaking (with food in his mouth). Though i don't expect someone who dehumanizes another for a simple statement, without regarding facts to be educated or logical, you should still learn to spot simple things that make ones argument valid.
He looks, sounds and acts like Hank from Breaking Bad.
ikr😂😂😂
+Sullendust Andrew Zimmern is great.
+Sullendust Exactly! I thought it's the actor himself doing some sushi programme.
+Sullendust maybe looks. Hank is a hardass and wouldn't say like 90% of the artsy stuff this guy says, and Hanks voice is far far deeper and harsher.
+Sullendust
Hank sells sushi and sushi accessories.
The chef looks like "just eat, you talk too much".
A very fine observation BLT.
It may be good education to slurp the noodles, but those munchie sounds while speaking are soooo disgusting. I agree with you, the chef must be thinking enjoy it quietly you moron XD
noemi esther garcia argudo There's needs to be a sign:
slurping allowed
munching prohibited.
hahaha

An apprentice of the legendary Jiro Ono. Even the restaurant is a replica of Jiro's, truly the greatest sushi chef of the past 100 years if not the greatest sushi chef ever.
From the future, Jiro didn't retired yet but, his apprentice retired
No. Takashi Saito is better. His restaurant is far superior to Jiro’s.
Mizutani was supposed to be better than Jiro
I bet he'll give same comment when he eats macdonalds
Yep
Ikejo Mitsuki Mac is good food too. that's why it is so popular.
PimpMyPeon good but not good for your health
Ikejo Mitsuki Sushi was meant to be fast food
killbodies34 sushi isn't a "fast food", If u wanna make a delicious sushi, u need to pay more attention on the steps of choosing the fish and the rice.
chef looks disgusted serving this guy lol
Titeillest couldn't agree more myself if I was the chef
*That's a former student of his you idiot.*
Probably because he is using his fingers to eat when the freaking' chop sticks are right in front of him...

did anyone realise how talkative the sushi master is? god damn
lmao the warmth of his hands..
ikr, i think thats nasty, i would rather eat cold food than food from someones warm and sweaty hand lol
***** Where did you get that from? Sushi is eaten cold, that's the reason why you haven't seen any japanese women preparing sushi, because their hands are too warm. (traditional rule)
this bald chubby guy is super cute when he rolls his eyes and shows a face of "hey yo dont be jealous, guys!"
As I recall, this sushi chef trained under Jiro Ono.
yep, that's him
it's his son if i remember correctly
Andrea Dessì yes one of 2
Yes, Mizutani was Jiro's apprentice. Mizutani even said that he respects Jiro so much that he won't sleep with his feet facing his mentor.
A rain man cannot predict the weather. A rain man can only make the clouds cry.
MMmmm the warmth of his hands....
Wow the sushi looks amazing!!! love your videos!!!!
Jiro was his teacher
I only know jiro who named dog..you know dog, jiro?
sunshine kitty Jiro is the best sushi chef in the world, not a dog lmao

I smell bullshit lmao
+Lucas Ng It is.
+Lucas Ng I can "cook" the same shit at home. Actually, what is there to cook? Lol. BTW - Whatever happened to "Blowfish" because I would like to see the Master Chef mess up...
+Lucas Ng smells fishy O_o
then you are an idiot
+Roman Romero Whatever dude... (With your highly sophisticated response, you clearly have some soul searching to do.) There is no fucking relationship between fish and chef.
Every real sushi shokunin chooses and buys his fish personally, it's 50% of the resulting quality of his product.
This guy has the table manners of an eight year old at a pizza party. How about you wipe the smirk off your face and show a little grace and respect
I love this guy, dude loves to eat and conversation.
It's good to know by the time I get to japan Jiro's legacy will live on in his apprentices. I immediately recognized Jiro's style in this chef. The very least the host could have done was dressing a little more formal/casual in respect to the chef who's clearly passionate at what he does for a living.
***** True. Took 3 seconds to think of Jiro.
Warbird Phoenix this guy probably got offended when they told him he had to put on a shirt to go in this amazing place
Just shows peoples passion for cultural foods. I WANNA TRY IT!!;) Lol his face after he takes every bite and description of the food taste!:) I am a lover of food and I wanna try this lol not just anywhere but a sushi master:)
Every time this guy eats something good like this is the most satisfying sort of thing, just how much enjoyment he gets from it
Fucking off-duty Bald Chief Wiggum.
Squid don't have bones, it's cartilage.
MaZEEZaM you must be super fun at party dude
This guy looks like he teaches people about a thing he dont have any idea about .
this it the same dork that eats fried tarantulas

jesus who cares. don't make such fuss about it.

So if someone came to your resturaunt, disected what ever food you were making, and was sniffing it with a disgusted face. you wouldnt be mad?

Old comment BUT, for americans it shows that he not only wants to try the food, but wants to feel the whole experience in smelling and feeling the food. This shows FOR AMERICANS a higher respect to the cook.
man seems to be enjoying his meal
for some reason, watching this guy eat alone in a sushi house seems depressing, as if im watching him drink alone in a bar
holy shit, he ate it like it was a burger. even i can feel the hati of being disgraced feels that struck the chef
He would make the same expressions and comments at mcdonalds
He's tasted more foods worldwide than you probably have your whole life.
+MrArticSwing for being a fatass? I guess so lmao
+Xino SJ that doesn't make any sense lol
he basically has the same impressions when eating all sorts of bizarre foods. for example fried bugs lol
King Jo Music this guy would even claim that a mcchicken is " succulent"
This is the perfect video for when it's 2:33 am and you're hungry but too lazy to go to the fridge to get some food
STOP SNIFFING THE SUSHI, YOU'RE INSULTING THE CHEF!!!
It's a video dog.... Try again
All the squid bones perfectly extracted
Wrong guy for this type of restaurant review...
Agreed. This dudes straight up blue collar trump supporting uneducated hick

Andrew Zimmerman has forgotten more than you know about food. LOL...The fact that he's sitting there is proof that he's a boss. Get a life kid.
Apparently this dude is some high class chef? More like Great Value Guy Fieri here
zimmern should be able to enjoy this high quality sushi to the max. after all, he basically knows the entire spectrum of flavours
De-boning a tiny piece of squid.....hahahahaha!

It is when you dip Sushi in soy sauce.
Kitty George and also when you put into the mouth
Kitty George when you eat it, the fish is supposed to face your tongue.

I feel very sorry for this master in his element, for hanging out with such a rude and clueless guy... wow
He seems like a very appreciative diner to me. And somewhat knowledgeable about fresh fish.
Look around in the comments, according to japanese manners many things are wrong.

No they just know this bald fat fuck is disrespecting the sushi master
taisho thinking: "Muricans..."
Why is everyone mad at him?
they're mad at his manners but I think he's doing a nice job of at least complimenting the chef...
He is a shitty commentator.
he sniffs the food, sucks at commentating, has a slappable face and is just annoying, and gets facts wrong.
when a sushi chef is making sushi for you . you cant waste time sniffing the food because it wont taste the same

Just look at the face of the chef at 0:42, he REALLY wants to ram his samurai sword down his fat ass throat.
I give it a scale of 1-10, and its 20
lol
The chef is the former apprentice of Jiro.
He just wanted to eat some good food man
They're always like "oh it's so disrespectful, blah blah blah" stop whining so much
He has his elbows on the table, talks with his mouth full, refers to the chef in third person when he's right there, and eats the sushi wrong (the least offensive thing). Pretty rude if you ask me
ITT: People who have no fucking idea who Andrew Zimmern is.
The way he ate sushi is wrong
Jesus Christ Marie! They're Minerals!
this man shouldn't be sniffing the food that is incredibly rude especially in front of the chef
Maybe sniffing it hes enjoying the aroma of the fish. Ever think of that ?
why was the guy shaking his head like he was saying no? I know it probably wasn't intentional but damn it wouldn't blame the chef for reading his body language the wrong way
I was thinking the same thing
He has no respect
Ihaba S This guy is just jealous and just needs something negative to say... Pathetic creature
I wasnt speaking about you
Andrew have the best employ of this world. EAT and got money with it!
somebody teach him how to eat sushi please ....
he's using his hands. that is the correct way to eat sushi actually. eating at the best restaurants isn't as stiff as you think it should be
im not talking about that .
The first thing to touch your tongue, must be the fish and not the rice, maybe about that.
Is this before the Fukushima Daiich Tsunami Radiation or after?
The man in the orange shirt reminds me of Hank from Breaking Bad. Anyone else?
In the chef's mind: this american could make a fine sashimi ingredient.
I ain't jealous, I'm in shape.
