During their 1957 run of Toscas at Covent Garden Corelli said to Milanov, "Signora, to me you are a Gigli in female clothing." Milanov was 56 at the time of this performance and singing with a sheen and control that put sopranos 20 years younger to shame.
Meravigliosi, grazie❤
These were two complementary voices - large and dramatic but capable of elegant pianissimo phrasing. As always, your recordings offer opera fans wonderful singing and just as wonderful nostalgia. 🥲
@@Sutherland2😂😂😂😂 It’s embarrassing for humanity that people don’t boo these hacks right off the stage. Instead they applaud and give standing ovations to crap.
Glad to have these 2 together. The only performance I have of them together was a fine TOSCA from Covent Garden from 1957 & have found a few more on You Tube recently. Thanks for the posting. A shame the greatest CHENIER of his time could not join Milanov for her final MET performance & in this opera. Tucker was fine then as usual but not Corelli, at least in this role.
For this 1962 Maddalena Zinka Milanov had the dress that Maria Antonietta had worn brought from Paris and a critic wrote that it was too new for her voice
With the exception of only a handful of sopranos many have declined in their mid to late 40s. Yoncheva, Netrebko, for example. Milanov reached her prime years in the early 50’s after singing her rep for 25 years.
@@dougt3652 can you prove what you say ? Because there are Zinka Milanov's sound documents from 1953, 54, 55 and in all of them her live Aidas and in her live Ballo in maschera she is bad. How can you back up what you say then sir?
Best Corelli here, Zinka has passed her best, she was divine before the war, sang with the Greatests
Corelli sempre inarrivabile con ogni soprano abbia cantato.a sua voce arriva dritta al cuore.
Emozione pura. ❤
Corelli era all'apice vocale,Milanov malgrado avesse 56 anni, aveva ancora una voce quasi integra.
Due artisti leggendari!!!!!
👏👏👏

That Tosca also has Guelfi. Happily a “ pirate “ recording of the performance has been readily available. It’s wonderful.
Milanov was 51 at the time.
Corelli, ever the selfless prince .

Corelli in his prime here great stuff

Saw them both in this at the "Old Met", him with Tebaldi, Zinka with Tucker. Unforgettable!
Me, too. Those days were Golden, never forgotten. Today's Met looks like a Las Vegas brothel with two-bit talent.

I saw Franco in Chenier with Tebaldi. Awesome together.
This is new to me. Thank you!
The audience was on fire.
Siempre que he escuchado a Corelli, me gustó mucho.gracias.
Que emoción escuchar estos maravillosos sonidos 😮😮😮😮😌😌😌😌😌❤❤❤❤
And still her top is amazing, top of Caruso/ Gigli era

Le roi des ténor indetronable franco corelli 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕
Senza alcun dubbio

Epic! Corelli 12 years into his career and Milanov 35 years into hers. Magic!!
🤣😅🤣😅🤣😅🤣😅🤣😂😂😂😂
@@dougt3652 And she sounds 35 yrs. into hers

Milanov is really amazing. But I prefer Tebaldi or Callas. Corelli, as usually, pure perfection.
Corelli's effortless singing, Milanov in senile voice condition
I only wish more sopranos today (and 20 years younger) sounded as "senile" as Milanov here at the age of 56.
What a weird voice she has 🤔
