- Actor Rose McGowan was one of the first women to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, and she's been embroiled in a battle against him and Hollywood ever since. She's now written a memoir 'Brave' and talks to Krishnan about speaking truth to power, what it was like growing up in a cult and why one day she wants to run for President.

She is right when she says that it might take someone a long time to be able to voice their trauma. I am a psychologist, and I am shocked that people think a person should just be able to phone the police and get a lawyer immediately after something awful has happened to them. Trauma brings with it complex emotions. Rose speaks eloquently, and with grace, and I wish her well.
I’ve been doing therapy for 10 years now. Stuff comes out very gradually. Realisations come with time. Many people don’t even know they’ve been abused at first. They think it’s their fault. They blame themselves. Their lives are a mess & they are in emotional pain. So they go to therapy. It has helped me come to terms with & better understand my trauma. I don’t see myself quitting it anytime soon as it has changed my life for the better. Thank you to therapists for what you do!

She says she went to a big shot manager and told him about harvey , the big shot manager got upset at Harvey and told rose that he had just killed a story that was going to expose harvey in 1 of the newspapers .
To clarify: roses own manager was covering up for harvey in other cases before rose even told him the story.

I’ve been binge watching everything Rose because it’s shocking to me. She was made out to be someone who is just crazy. And then you hear her talk so eloquently and well spoken and she’s so brave it’s just unbelievable how the media try to make her look crazy when she’s not!

Excellent interview, excellent interviewer- he allowed Rose to talk without interruption, he honored her story, her impact from incidents in her life. Rose is a survivor in many ways. She has a voice and she bravely speaks even in the face of being ignored, disregarded, disbelieve, unsupported. She is very intelligent. I am grateful for this interview.

When I clicked on this interview, I didn’t expect to be sucked into watching the entire thing from beginning to end, and to be so wowed by her intelligence, vision, strength and hope. I’m pleasantly surprised with how much hope she has.
I really like her. I think shes such a genuine deep soul. And Harvey is completely vile. What a horrible thing to have to survive. I was sexually assaulted as a child by a boy I couldn't stand and thought was so repulsive even before it happened and that definitely made it worse for me. Several things trigger it and I see his disgusting face. It's not an easy thing to survive it. But she's doing it with grace and strength. Thats grit.

Great interview! I lover her, but also the guy was brilliant, he knew when to make the silent spaces and what to ask. I’d love to see Rose McGowan run for President, but she wasn’t born in the US; so unless that law changes, I don’t think she could ever do that.
The most intelligent and thoughtful person that I have heard in a long time. She’s strong , sharp and smart but most importantly positive woman despite the trauma she has endured. It’s great that in the exhausting fight and denunciation of a monster she courageously avoided bitterness! Rose McGowan for President I say!

The part where she says 'freeze' it should be added to fight and flight.
To freeze up feels like being in suspended animation. I understand this so well when reflecting back to my own experience. When you're a hostage to a Psycho Narcissist and through moments of their control with the uses of physical abuse. In situations like that where you know you cannot run or even fight, you end up freezing.
Once I was so scared that my whole legs wouldn't move. I can totally relate to the feeling...
It would be nice if Krishnan would interview the Rotherham woman who is still speaking out and trying to deal with the fallout of what happened and is still happening to all those girls.The problem on focusing on Rose and Harvey is that there is still so many women and girls and boys/men out there I am sure who still do not get to come forward.I would like to hear as much about the Rotherham scandal as this one.I wonder if because it was Hollywood it gets more attention.I know its involved some big powerful players and Mossad agents but these girls went through some of the most horrific sexual abuses that I still think have not been fully heard about.I still do not think the people who ignored those girls have been properly held to account.

As for HW you can tell by looking at him there's something really wrong with him, and that's on top of his long bullying reputation. If some actors organisation had actually been monitoring his behaviour, this might have prevented all this in the first place, but it seems he had more power than anyone, which is strange. Actresses are partly to blame for their silences in the matter, but I suspect threat hung over them. It happened the way it did, there probably wasn't any other way.

And oh man the freezing...i definitely did and it was the most difficult thing to deal with. I was so disappointed in myself for not fighting more. And I'd froze before. I went to a stomp in like 7th grade and a boy at the dance asked me to dance. I said yes and shortly after we began stepping side to side he began rubbing my butt with both hands. I kept stepping side to side but the rest of me was like a statue. I didnt say stop or tell him I didn't like it. I just let it happen. It was such a long three minutes. And I actually thanked him after the song ended. It bothered me so bad.

Being sick all of my life I was born with VATERS syndrome a very rare condition but was told what to do all of my life feeling sick about how dr torched me being told this has to happen for your health. Its like being taped but legally with no mental health behind it. It is like what rose said it's like an out of body experience. You don't get a choice it's just what has to be. If I could advocate for one thing is to make sure children that are going through similar things know they are not dirty but are pure beings. So many times we get puched under the rug sos. We need better mental health family for this, to know we are not dirty beings we still exist and we need help understand why

I have such respect for her. Thankful for her voice. My thoughts when she told the story of her boyfriend being murdered and then the Hollywood agent proposing her and putting her right into the system…that murder was bought and paid for by the industry in order to make her broken and vulnerable, so that she would take the offer.
It is interesting listening to Rose's interviews. She humanizes people in the entertainment business. "Work all day as someone else then so tired when you come home that you don't have time to be yourself." Hope the best for the Real You Rose!

Even the word person is insufficient for one who apparently operates from a place of intimate contact with the inner being. Person derives from persona which appropriately refers to the Greek word for the masks worn on the stage in ancient theaters. Rose McGowan worked as an actress but from this and other interviews I've watched we are not seeing a persona, this is not simply a role, in as much as that is possible, but rather the authentic being. Their words are of depth and weight and worthy of deliberate consideration. Alas we live in an echo chambers and I am unsure if it's possible to break free from the narrow tribes algorithmically assigned to us by factors which have little to do with the inner being. Over the last 18 months I have attempted significant work to break free from ideological indoctrination. Watching this makes me want to do more, to be a better world facing person by becoming increasingly acquainted with my inward facing being. I too am hopeful for the future.

Did she say she doesn’t identify as a woman? Or is it just that she had a short haircut and dresses casually? Kind of a weird thing to call out. Great interview. I never realised Rose was so switched on and smart. How do you make the world a better place? How do you make it fair? How do you create equality and give everyone a chance? You would need to dismantle the 'establishment' and rebuild it with 'fair' people. But how do you keep the 'fair' people 'fair' once they have their job? The temptations will always be there. Human nature will never change. Good people will always turn bad. "Every man (and woman - Oprah) has their price. Sorry, but the world is a toilet for a reason - all people are the same underneath, and they are all selfish and ego driven. It's a recipe for disaster. Nothing new under the sun I'm afraid.
