Effacer has got to be the weirdest educational game ever made. I'm trying to imagine the parents who want this for their kids, a game where you execute criminals in a far future alien world made of living language, as if David Lynch went straight from improving Dune to making Mortal Kombat for PBS.

That Laser Lord is quite possibly the strangest thing I have ever seen. I honestly don’t know how Mike didn’t just laugh the entire time.

Its crazy how some of those "consoles" were as expensive or more then current consoles which take the biggest crap on them in retrospect
If they purchased the 3 zelda games for the cd-i, they more than made their money back.
It wasn't really sold as a console, it was more like a proto-DVD player, so maybe the first customers didn't mind that the games weren't so great.

I remember they had infomercials for CD-I. And as a 90s child who got up early to watch nick and nite I was all in on infomercials.

My family spent Christmas 93 in the Bahamas. On the TV in our room was an infomercial channel and they kept playing an infomercial for the CD-I. They promised voice control which I don't know if that made it into the final product.

Now you say it's an elephant Mike, but I think it's more a mix between a Jurassic Park T-Rex and the alarm klaxon on Imperial ships in Star Wars.
Mike, you should set subscription goals for youtube or patreon or whatever, and play one of the zelda cdi games through when you reach it. It would be a great way to boost subs on something. You know that after all the demand for so many years that it'll get a lot of views, it almost seems like a wasted opportunity if you don't do something like a sub goal with it. Also, when you're playing valheim, you often don't draw the bow fully before releasing, aka letting the reticle fully close. I may be wrong, but it seems like you don't do nearly the damage you get from a full shot. Anyway, hope you're well! ^_^

My local mom & pop store had one demo model on display. People hated it. They had maybe five of them on the shelf. I heard they did not sell one unit. Cost them a lot of money. Same with the 3DO and the Neo Geo home system.

Opens up with a Streets of Rage/Final Fight clone. Was Streets 4 the palate cleanser? Those animations... yeesh. I forget how temperamental the old cd systems were. Sort of like a disc man, you stare at it funny and it skips.

Mike! You can fix your tray. My Cdi sounded that way too after replacing it with a new belt. Just added some grease to some particular spots and now it sounds clean. No noise at all. I believe it is a couple gears that need the grease. It has been so long since we did it but damn it worked well. They have a video on TH-cam to show the spots.
Someone "Remastered" Link Faces of Evil and Zelda The Wand of Gamelon for the Philips CD-i. I haven't got a chance to play them yet but they actually look PLAYABLE lol...

Been seeing a lot of the CDI recently. Bob from RetroRGB did a stream recently with Wrestle with Gaming. Was a ton of fun, I reccomend the YT vid. WWG is into the CDI, it apparently does have a couple good games - that "controller" is insane tho. Especially the infrared ones lol. But the hardware regular ones and the mods that can be done help. Doesnt look bad when RGB modded and stuff (or through SCART native depending i guess? I think it uses a THS7374 for the amp/mod like most)
I played a lot of Burn Cycle and Mad Dog McCree on my CD-i back in the day.

Most of the animations on the CDi look to me like they were animated by the Heavy Metal team.
You have to wonder what these lads were smoking, inhaling, and injecting when they made these games.

These interactive cd games were such a plague in the early/mid 90s. The majority of us knew it was garbage which is why none of the cd based based consoles were big hits up until the PSX did away with the bullshit.
The industry was trying so hard to push this shit and we weren't getting suckered, sort of like how the industry was pushing 3D TVs hardcore 10 years ago and it failed.
