Mike, I love your videos! So many youtube personalities are fake and scripted and you bring a realness to what we watch but not the nothingness of most twitch streamers! You are a true gamer and a wealth of knowledge. Keep up the awesome work and hope you have continued success.
Mars Matrix looks so fun, as i understand it's a one button game.
Tapping fast=rapid fire
Tapping slow=lazer shot
Holding a bit=absorb some bullets
Holding long=absorb all bullets
The first and last option is all you did it looked like. And perhaps the dreamcast has several buttons mapped, originally it was a one button game i heard.
There should be more Dreamcast in James and Mike Mondays
One reason I do these streams is to learn about new games so that I can get more ideas for potential J&MM videos. Those can be hard to record because I have to find things that can be shot with the limited time given

@@mikematei Shenmu is the best game I ever played. My house got broken into 15 odd years ago and they stole my Dreamcast. I was so close to finishing it too, I SUCK at stealth. PS you were the best Joker of all time! Marvel vs Capcom was probably the most fun fighting game I ever played. HUGE FAN!
Would be awesome to do all three House of the Dead games for James and Mike Monday!
@@mikematei You should play illbleed and Blue Stinger. Illbleed fits in with October and Blue Stinger is a Christmas game so December is perfect for that game. Both games are fairly short but in a first play through I guess they can be a little long if a person doesn't know exactly what to do in the first play through. Blue Stinger did release before Illbleed and it was made by the same people. The games don't play much alike but share similar graphics.

Maybe you know by now but in giga wing 1 and 2 you gotta learn how and when to use barrier to absorb and reflect shots back at enemies otherwise it's impossible
You're right. I played just GW 1 and there it is called medal milking, using the amount of enemy bullets and reflect them to destroy the enemy and then catch as much as possible medals to bring the score multiplier up and of course overcome some dangerous situations. 😊
I always have difficulties watching people play shmups I'm really good at. Watching Willie from Arcade USA play G-Darius with ZERO knowledge of the Alpha beam / Beta beam mechanic was literally driving me insane. He didn't look at ANY of my messages telling him how to play the game and eventually I gave up and left. It's just a thing with me I guess...
I was like 11 when this came out, my friend had one with a bunch of pirated games for it and all I wanted to play was the Dead or Alive 2 demo he had lol
Dreamcast native outputs are composite (fbas), rgb & vga.
The reason not everybody knows Sturmwind, is because it’s release date was April 2013........years after the systems official dead.
Took me hell of a long time to unlock the red blood on House 2.
you should try out Illbleed, its a pretty cool horror game on the dreamcast.

REZ PS2 version had smooth 60fps at all times. My pick is obviously RE: Code Veronica or Ikaruga coop
One of the best space shooters ever is on Dreamcast - Giga Wing! And the Wacky Races game is great too
I had this resident evil rip off, blue stinger, NFL 2k, Royal rumble, and some weird dungeon rpg that had a mini game for the vmu, wish I still had that thing

That strum wind game is really dope. I love discovering new shoot em ups like this. Also fantastic doing the trifecta of Neo Geo, Dreamcast, and Turbo Duo. Those are like god tier systems for that genre even though the Neo Geo doesn’t have a lot of them. Saturn has some amazing shooters too.
Mike, please play Crisis Force on the famicom, best space shooter for the system. You can even play with James cause it is two player coop.
Border down is pretty sweet. If I remember right it had a dbz beam struggle deal if you shot the laser at a boss laser.

Be careful about switching controllers with the dreamcast powered up. I've always heard you can blow a fuse for the controller port.
Mad Catz controllers killed 3 of my dreamcasts don’t use them.....

I was in the minority who had Dreamcast and Saturn. They are Two systems that gained respect after the fact not when they were in stores.

Under Siege looked AWESOME....i love the 19XX Capcom series, and that was it's spiritual successor i never knew about (til now)!
Dreamcast has way better games than just shooters. I personally don't care for them, but I love the Dreamcast.

RGB is awesome. I don't have anything that natively supports it but I am able to do S-Video with my Trinitron and it really does make big difference. If you're serious about retro gaming in terms of visuals, you gotta have a CRT with at least S-Video.
Yeah I been using RGB for years on my consoles with my capture card and it's pretty great.
Hey Mike. Try gunlord for dreamcast, neo geo, or switch. It's a sidescrolling run and gun with a touch of contra and metroid. Keep the awesome content coming.
Rez looks like the hacking scene in the movie hackers
Elemental Gimmick Gear, Rez, Hydro thunder, some weird survival horror game that's in the snow(forgot the name) and The Sonic Adventure games are the only Dreamcast games I still own, this kinda makes me want to bust them back out again.

A gem.
I just played that for the first time a few days ago and man were some parts tough. I almost gave up, but I was so curious to see where the story was going that I toughed it out all the way up to where you have to fight that crossbow-wielding old man in the castle of that weird monkey looking nobleman. That fight is a bitch because of the respawning, heavily armored spear-men so I finally got a game over with no continues. I ended up looking up the history of the game and it turns out it was based off a graphic novel series and there were tons of cosplay pictures of the protagonist and I even saw a bunch of listings from people selling replicas of that giant fucking sword. Crazy, I never heard of this game during the Dreamcast's lifespan but I'm glad I got to check it out. I think Mike would probably hate it but it is challenging so maybe that would appeal to him. Don't know.

I didn't know about the homing shots on "Border Down." I couldn't get past level one, became frustrated, and gave up. I'll have to take another run at it.
That's a key element to the game along with beam battling the bosses. Mike didn't seem to grasp any of that during his run. The game is a lot of fun, but you have to know the mechanics of it to get anywhere at all.

Imagine shenmue for James and mike mondays. Anyways Ikaruga, Rayman 2, skies of Arcadia, giga wing series, and power stone, along with Naomi titles are good for the console

I remember once I was watching your stream and you started telling the chat that your favorite game was something called Tongue of the Fatman. I genuinely thought you were just trolling the chat in your dry sarcastic style but a couple days ago I read an article about this game and it is definitely real. So of course I had to try it out. What a bizarre but interesting game and man, that name. I guess it was released under at least two other names outside of Japan. Not sure if it's really your favorite but I am just amazed that it's really a game.
Hi Mike Sega Dreamcast is the best console ever made in my opinion there is a loot of Arcade games awesome games like Mars Matrix,Zero Gunner,Giga Wing,Under Defeat, Ikaruga,Cannon Spike,House of the Dead 2,Capcom vs Snk 1 and 2, Zombie Revenge btw i very like this game is fun and i play some times on my Dreamcast

Hey mike next time you do dreamcast games. Check out zombie revenge, it's a spin off of the house of the dead series but as a beat em up instead of a light gun rail shooter.

Mars Matrix did not benefit from being played after the other shooters. It was a massive drop in graphic quality.
I appreciate you playing Dreamcast shmups, Mike! I just wish you had better understood the gameplay mechanics of those shmups BEFORE you started streaming. Watching you play was...frustrating at times.

Border Down is brutal. I've only played it once.
This game is no forgiving.
I really love Trigger Heart Exelica, pretty easy shmup compared to others and really fun with the grab system.
Want to explain the system? I found it weird
@@mikematei for triggerheart exelica, you have a grab button, I think it's the R button. (it's been a long time since I've played it)
you have to keep pressing the grab button until you've successfully grabbed it.
then, once an enemy is grabbed, you can make it turn around you and then throw it (by releasing the grab button I think) on other enemies, similar to how mario throws bowser in mario 64.
you can grab most of the enemies on the game. the bigger they are, the longer it takes to grab them.
if you throw an enemy (or something else) on other enemies, they take massive damage, so it's really strong against waves of enemies or some bosses.
a grabbed enemy can also be used as a shield against enemies projectiles too. so it's both strong offensively and defensively.
once you master the grabbing system, the game is really fun.
@@lecorbak I beat it without using the grab system and still had fun. Honestly I didn't know about it.

I never knew they censored the blood on the Dreamcast version of House of the dead, very strange decision considering both the console and game were made by fucking Sega. lol
The red blood is unlocked after completing the game. same goes for the HoTD spinoff Zombie Revenge.

But it's not that far of a stretch. Dreamcast ran WinCE, no? (EDIT: with DirectX!) And Sega lost a ton of money and didn't want to compete with a MS console, so that's fun. 😭

Thing is episode 1 is not great but it is way way way better than episode two and episode 3 those destroy the entire franchise there was still hope after episode 1, but they should have never killed Darth Maul in it and jar jar should have been revealed as a Sith in episode 3 it would have been perfect when Obi wan made anakin accidentally kill jar jar this sending him onto a pathway of pure rage
