Just remember the postictal phase can last a while after the seizure is done..your patient still needs monitoring. Been there, done that

Make sure there is a standing order for O2 above 2L per min otherwise you can’t give oxygen higher concentrations than 2L

    Questions ⁉️
    - Do you turn patient to their side during or after seizure?
    - Do you provide suction during or after seizure?
    - Do you provide oxygen during or after seizure?
    - Do you provide medications during or after seizure (given they already have an IV)?
Thank you! We haven't covered this is school yet, so I'm curious.

Hi I'm a nursing student too (medical professionals and RNs please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is a good question and I want to learn too ^^). I believe you'd do those things after, since during a seizure a patient is at risk for choking so we wouldn't want to put anything in their mouths like a suction....and often times I heard we would let the seizure happen but just make sure the patient is safe by giving them room and space, we NEVER want to hold them down, just be nearby and ensure their safety :)

I once had to assist a guest with a seizure when I worked at a night club. everybody around was shocked at the sight but we helped the guest, got onlookers away and called an ambulance. was the first time the person had a seizure and they came back another day with champagne to thank us :)

HI there! Im a student nurse, should you call a rapid response for a seizure? What is the implications on that? Or do you just tell the provider? Or does that all depend on facility?

A seizure over a certain time period, let's say longer than 3 mins, initiates a rapid response. Sometimes there are drugs administrator and before calling one if they are ineffective. Everyone is different. There are protocols that are taught. Physician is notified in any of the circumstances.

If I can do it you can too 💯 i had a few break downs those are normal. Put sleep first. Care plans are not hard just time-consuming. Get good at writing fast and not thinking too hard about it. Say bye to real life and your social life. Make friends in the program and do not engage in the drama or people trying to tear you down. Study at bars, or libraries different scenarios, I did and have good memories of that now. Don’t gossip about your teachers. Always go over the questions you got wrong bc you’ll see them again. Quizlet is your friend. Gl! :)
