    I love this video... When I was 12 years old coach used to tell me that wasn't ready to play football team because I was too special... it was kind of hard for me to understand..But I do understand I had a hard time to let everything go..It's took me time at the young age...Seizure epilepsy it is the hardest thing you have to go through with it to making sure you're taking care of it

    when I started high school the coach of the volleyball team had told me that he was uncomfortable with me playing because of my epilepsy. I was heartbroken and didn't play although high school. It still saddens me because I was so excited to play and yet I was discriminated by something that I couldn't and still can't control.

    I was exempt from doing sports at school in case I had a seizure. I went to the classes but just watched, then was asked by the coach to head to the changing room 5 mins before the guys arrived, to have the showers warmed for them. Recall coming out of a seizure in the coaches room as he emerged from his shower; no memory of who brought me there or how long I was there for.

    Will be sharing this video with my mom. I had my first seizure a little over a week ago, two days after my 43rd birthday and it frightened her. Good thing is, I feel that it was the side effect of a medication which I'm no longer taking. (:

    One of my closest friends daughter who would’ve turned 18 next month had a seizure while her mum & dad were out & although some friends were with her she fell on her bed facing down with the bedroom door closed. Her friends finally went to see why she had not come back out of her room only to find her non responsive & still face down on the bed. Unfortunately she could not be saved, despite valiant efforts from her best friends. I went to her funeral last Monday and the whole town was there. A special young woman taken way too soon. Hope this video reaches far and wide to save those that can be saved. If you know anyone with epilepsy, please check on them regularly as this can help. I know that a lot of people at this funeral have donated (including myself) a total of over $25k

    He’s fail the physical exam in some school and he prohibited from playing due to the safety issue. It’s a good lesson learning school for kids so they know what to do in the event of someone having a seizure though. I mean he would likely have to sit the remainder of the game out cause this is a grand mal and when you come out of a seizure like that, your disoriented and confused and sometimes in pain or may have a pounding headache. It’s not likely you’ll come to and jump up and continue to play ball like nothing happened.

    When I was a baby I had a febrile seizure I stopped breathing and turned blue my mom gave me mouth to mouth and by the time the EMTS arrived I stopped seizing. in pre k I would get angry and punch any thing that was in front of me after observing me in a pre k class and talking to the pre k teachers it was suggested that my parents should take me to a therapist to rule out any behavior issues. he took one look at me and said that I was having seizures he then referred me to a neurologist. At the at the age of 5, I was diagnosed with childhood absence epilepsy but I have been seizure free since the age of thirteen. And so was taken of meds which caused massive weight gain a hand tremor and memory loss. The point is meds are good up until a point and then it becomes a pill, no pun intended. My triggers are flashing lights, the transition from the out doors to inside a classroom getting too hot and recently sleep deprivation. when i have an absent my pupils will go from normal to pin point that is the only physical sign the eye can lasts My seizures last one second and happened every minute to every minute and a half. So there are 60 seconds in a minute and 24 hours in a day then I was having seizures every 1440 minutes or 86400 seconds so in total I would have 86400 seizures per day with meds. my parents were told to treat me as a normal child and to see how fare I would develop and look at me now I have graduated high school with honors . I am in collage as you can infer I was not expected to do much of what I just mentioned
    The effects of my seizures is that I have Aspie like tendencies due to my epilepsy which I know is difficult to understand to put it in simple terms as a result of my seizures my brain compensated and rewired itself and so I have all of the symptoms of Aspergers but lack any sort of understanding math as a result I have no understanding of money and never really learned my basic math facts.(I am just learning them now in college which for most Aspergers people they are gifted with math abilities ) I also have orthotic issues due to my seizures I also have a processing disorder. I have low gross motor control and other motor issues as well.
    When was 19 my father died, and it seems I have had a relapse if that is possible. I still have my absence seizure but it is not enough to put me on meds . When I was thirteen I had EEG and my seizures showed up as misfired neurons and the Dr. called them "flurries" so here is what my flurries are typically like I will become very spacey i can not interact with my surroundings I also felt locked in to place. I am completely aware my vision becomes like a tunnel and thing start to move or vibrate on there own for me an absent seizure lasts one second with is rare but these flurries can last 5-10 minutes.

    You don’t move someone while they’re having the seizure that could hurt them and you
    You turn their head gently to the side during the seizure and then you turn them on their side after the seizure
    The beginning wasn’t very accurate

    • @EpilepsyFoundationNational
      @EpilepsyFoundationNational  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If someone is experiencing a seizure and is not awake or aware, moving the individual onto their side helps clear their airway and helps the person breathe more easily.

    • @jempalmer867
      @jempalmer867 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Epilepsy Foundation yes, after the seizure has stopped. They moved him while he was still seizing. While the person is fitting, if they are not on their side you only turn their head to the side and up a little so the airway is cleared. You then move them onto their side into recovery position after the seizure has stopped

    • @johncarlosmetidieri7191
      @johncarlosmetidieri7191 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually, you’re incorrect! People suffering seizures can vomit during such seizure. Moving the victim onto his/her side not only helps the victim to breathe (as the Epilepsy Foundation explained to you), but it ALSO prevents them from asphyxiating on their own vomit as would be the case if the victim is still face up throughout the seizure.

    • @cearachavez3156
      @cearachavez3156 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. But you can move them if they're at risk of hitting hard objects, choking on their spit because of an upward positions, or near traffic.

    I would like to make an important note in this that the coach did wrong, when someone is having an episode, people should *not* turn the casualty over in recovery position unless the episode is completely gone, OR if they have food or fluid in their mouth, but they should not be restrained and should remain on their backs until their episodes are over.

    • @collizross

    • @keyboardsmash1231
      @keyboardsmash1231 ปีที่แล้ว

      @collizross maybe you shouldn't go into healthcare. You can't choke on your tongue. It's not possible. What the person here is saying is more or less true. You should only turn the person on their side if the seizure is fully stopped or if you can. If you can't turn the person on their side then don't. And it doesn't matter if they are on their side or back, if there is enough froth and saliva in the mouth they will choke either way, so you can just hold the persons head back when they are lying on their back to stop saliva from accumulating. choking on the tongue or swallowing it is just a myth. Do some research.

    This was made to make it look pretty. In a Real after math you'd wake up dried blood on the side of your face , hips down covered in cold urine, dizzy as hell, soar all over and the sound of shutters going off in the background...IT AIN'T PRETTY! I used to have Seizures. Make a more realistic video then we can talk!!~~cc

      My seizures look like this, I don't pee and I haven't ever bled. I've hurt my knee and bruised my chin from falling before, but sometimes it's really not that crazy. Also, not all seizures are Grand Mal seizures. My seizures have been larger movements than this but I have had shivering like this.

      OMG thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking! My son has has epilepsy and a convulsive seizure looks absolutely NOTHING like this. I understand not wanting to scare people but seriously, this is not even close to what a real grand-mal seizure looks like. There is grunting and drooling/foaming, many times blood, and violent shaking, eyes rolling--it's frightening and if the purpose of this is to let people know what a real seizure looks like, this is not it.

      @@avamyst70 Thank you, At least you understood the message I was trying to get across! I was told my type was Grand-mal Sudeo Seizures and it was a severe case too. I just hope people will understand that my previous comment wasn't to demean the Ad. I thought the episodes I had were the "standard" and we'll let's just say it ain't this pretty.~~cc
