The way she laid her head on him was so sweet. Cockatoos are wonderful animals, but they're a lot if you don't know what you're getting into. My family adopted a cockatoo who was estimated at 60 years old. She lived probably another five years. I don't know what led to her being put up for adoption, but we did our best to make her happy and comfortable and she was such a sweetheart. I miss her!
If the bird's truly 60, she had probably outlived at least 2 generations of owners. Thank you for letting her lived out her last years with love and affection! :-)
My Mom had 1 that she raised from a baby (chick), and she named her Casey. She cried like my nieces and nephews, a whole repertoire of different types of cries 😭 😅 she sang and danced, especially if you were doing it. My Mom had to find her a temporary place to live when she had to move, but the temporary home got too attached to her, and Mom hasn't been able to get her back. She used to drink my mother's hot tea and sit on the edge of the tea cup. I sent Mom a link so she could see Popeye, and it made her sad because she misses her baby Casey.
You are so spot on. Cockatoo's in particular the white (or umbrella) cockatoo is an awesome pet but can IS a handful. They are children with feathers and if you are not willing to give them the time and attention they require and deserve then you really should not have one. I know this from experience. I live with, I will not say own, an umbrella cockatoo and he demands to be by my side as along as I am at home. He has been with me from the age of six months and he is now almost two. I can honestly tell you that he has taken over my life completely and I would not have it any other way.
I would guess that her previous owner passed away and it's their family who put her where she was and they intended to go get her back but never could confidently take on caring for her. She's in the right home forever now. But often they out live their owners.
I think the way she had her wings clipped and was possibly kept in a small cage. She is far better off. My male eclectus had his wings clipped. He now lives in a large aviary with my other parrots. And can fly all day. Would love to train them in free flight at some point.
My son works at a parrot rescue. The amount of stories he tell about the rescues breaks my heart. One bird the owner sold the house left their African Grey in the house in a cage with water. When he was eventually found he had eaten his wings. That poor bird was so starving it are it's own wings. It's doing better now but there just stumps left. Dad thing is there's tons more stories like that. People don't realise these birds live for a long time and they are very intelligent. They feel the same emotions we do and they do get anxiety and abandonment issues. It takes a long time and a lot of patience to get them feeling better but that trauma never truly leaves them
I have a sulphur crested cockatoo like this. He is incredibly smart and affectionate. I have had him for 40 years and he is a wonderful companion and my best friend. The personality of these beautiful creatures is amazing.
What humans do to animals is awful...so much abuse. THANK GOD for good people like this couple. How I wish everybody was like them! Thank you for saving Papa! xo
A million Thank You’s to your family. I live about 60km’s from the Sydney CBD. The sulphur crested Cockatoo’s are around in their hundreds. They are also close to the city. We adore them. They will find a tree in the early evening, making a huge amount of noise about it. Watching them fly over is spectacular. There are selected up to three cockatoo’s for sentry duty at the top of the tree. With my binoculars I can often see that they sleep on the job. Other than humans they don’t have a predator. They make us laugh everyday with their acrobatics. To adopt a rescue is like having a two to three year old child forever. They live long lives and usually have an attachment to one person, in your case your husband. 🕊️🇦🇺😀🏡
Beautiful birds with lots of character. We had one for 40 years. Was supposed to be a male but laid an egg when "he" was about 5 😅 Love seeing them play in the wild (I am in Australia and we have lots of cockatoos around our house). They really know how to play!
🤧 aww she's super gorgeous, bless you for saving her and giving her a terrific forever home. She's also so cute when she says papa, and she's dancing to him playing the panio. Cracking good video thanks for sharing 🖤😎👍
These birds are so amazing and so is her bond with Mum and (especially) Dad. I housesit for a friend who has four wild cockatoos hanging around and they’re so intelligent, curious and definite music lovers ❤.
Beautiful girl ❤ it’s a pity people buy/get a pet & don’t know how to look after them. This family will be so great for her however as the woman says some of Popeye’s learned behaviours from her negative experiences will stay with her indefinitely 😢⭐️
Aw, Popeye is so sweet! and affectionate My heart melted haring her say "Papa." She's a beautiful bird. Tha. nk you both so much for giving her a loving home. May you enjoy many years of happiness with your little feathhered friend. ♥♥
AWWW She's adorable, she was confined for so many years but never lost her spark for life. She is so blessed to have found a loving home. When she calls papa and puts her head on him, that made me cry happy tears that she has found such loving people who gave her a chance at a good life. Blessings
In the beginning of the video she goes up and says "Hello Papa" my gosh my ❤ went all squishy....Aww. Sweet girl bless her ❤ Wonderful family thank you.
She is adorable ❤... how affectionate can a bird be... she's so sweet... very sad, she was left like that... who knows what the problems were with the previous owner... I'm glad she's found a loving and caring home...
As an Australian it’s so sad to see a cockatoo kept inside, here they live in the wild in large flocks & are highly social with their groups & mate for life. We see them all the time, it’s a beautiful site to see them in the trees or on the ground looking for food, always screeching, & interacting with each other. The illegal bird trade of these highly intelligent birds is a disgrace especially as they’re use to living free in large social groups.
Aww... I am always so amazed at people who take birds in and commit to them so fully. They can be a lot to handle, and I admittedly don't think i could do it. These are wonderful people ❤
Having a bird lay her head on my chest and call me Papa would melt my heart.
Me as well!😂❤
Me too.
The best ever!!❤
Yep, I would tear up.

~70 year toddlers. Some people can handle that, some can't. Love them if you can, watch videos if you can't. Enjoy these wonderful birds either way.
@@vickievitale7557wait..so they just refused to return her??
Hugging papa's belly is so cute 😢
Aww. That little voice "Papa", how cute..
It's sad she was abandoned, these birds are for life. Thanks for rescuing her.
I’m happy she was abandoned by her previous family. Clearly they had no idea how to treat her.
I would guess that her previous owner passed away and it's their family who put her where she was and they intended to go get her back but never could confidently take on caring for her. She's in the right home forever now. But often they out live their owners.

What wonderful parents for a wonderful bird.
I am always amazed at how intelligent these birds are. She’s a beauty!

Yes, we underestimate the intelligence of birds.
What a terrible life you had, little Popeye, before you got your new papa and mama. Its nice to see your love for each other!❤️💕🌸🇸🇪
Note the amount of selfless love on the woman's part... this gives me hope in humanity again ❤
Well, we know animals have faith in us💕💕💕
@@Donna-cc1ktsometimes too much faith in us. Some humans should not be aloud to own pets.
What a precious girl....thank you for rescuing her❤
Her little voice "Papa" ❤❤❤
It's sad about her never learning to fly, but it's nice that you take her out and let her kind of feel what it's like.
Saying Papa is so adorable and sweet.❤❤❤
Thank you for adopting her. She’s a sweetheart
Popeye! Thank you for adopting her, gorgeous bird. 💕
What humans do to animals is awful...so much abuse. THANK GOD for good people like this couple. How I wish everybody was like them! Thank you for saving Papa! xo
Do they have bird psychologists? She has deep PTSD. Clearly the perfect people found her. Such a precious soul
“Papa” 🥹💗What a beautiful bird 💝
She’s a sweet, loving, beautiful bird, and has definitely been blessed with the best home ever!
Shes a daddy's girl❤
What a lovely story. You are wonderful people for giving her love and freedom. That “hello papa” is everything. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
That “Hello Papa” in the bedroom and the “Papa” and then he puts his head on dad’s chest both were way too cute. Daddy’s boy for sure
Daddysgirl
Talented , sensitive and precious, Thank you both for Rescuing and adopting💕💙🙏🙏

Heartbreaking that they abandoned her. They’re so sensitive, like people
These are my favorite birds, and if I wouldn't be so damn old, I'd have one
You can foster or adopt a senior parrot from one of the many rescues. You could do a good service and get immense joy in return. God bless.
🤧 aww she's super gorgeous, bless you for saving her and giving her a terrific forever home. She's also so cute when she says papa, and she's dancing to him playing the panio. Cracking good video thanks for sharing 🖤😎👍
