    This video made me realize how much more I listen to people from South America, and how little I listen to people from Spain. I am able to understand everything in this video, but it takes me a little bit more effort to understand. I should start listening to people from Spain a little bit more often so that understanding Spaniards becomes more automatic for me.

    this is interesting - i started spanish from zero on march 13 2017 - i am fluent in french as well as english - after four and a half months of fairly intensive study, two or three hours a day, but no one around me who knows the language - i was beginning to think i was getting good at comprehension, and then i hear this guy
    after a second listen i can understand about forty percent, not really enough to make much sense - after a third listen some parts are suddenly fully understandable like getting busted for drinking in the street - but other parts are still gibberish
    with a fourth listen, my faith is restored and i understand enough to keep me plugging plugging away and try to train my ear before attempting to speak it because i'm kind of lazy with the rules

    Whilst I can agree with the comments from 'holopinieo1' (except that my non-understanding of this chap was more 99%) I guess this does give us an insight to how 'real' Spanish people speak and the different accents that are out there...At the end of the day I remember what an old and valued Spanish teacher once told me...."stretching your Spanish is what makes it grow and flourish. Keep at it..."... Wise words indeed...

I sent the video to my brother who also speaks Spanish, in disbelief as we too are massive fans of going for curries there. We were born there (not Ocean Road but Shields) but raised in Jarrow.
    Anyway I'm doing my Erasmus year and work in a school here in Madrid in ... Torrejón de Ardoz. Out of all the places in Madrid, it's quite surreal to happen twice hahaha. Anyways thanks to you guys for your videos, they're very helpful and I really appreciate them!

      From all the years teaching and, of course, learning, the conclusion that I have arrived to is that all speakers (even English speakers) under pronounce and swallow their words (at least some times). We just all do. What we need to do is to tune our ears to the sounds. If your problem is listening, then, immerse yourlself as much as possible in Spanish, Kevin ;) Cx

    The guy that speaks faster seems more natrual and knows exactly what he's thinking and wants to say. The slower speaker seems confused and has to think if his words.

      Pugakhang 007 It's because he speaks kinda with the accent of the suburbs of Madrid. Usually people living outside big cities are chavs and this guy. Actually all the places he goes in summer are really chav in Benidorm and Gandia the spanish Jersey Shore was shoot. This lad would fit in this show

      Pugakhang 007 hola. Soy filipino también. De donde eres? Bueno, el accento latinamericano como mexicano, colombiano, es mucho mas facil a comprender que el accento de madrid. Just like in english, american vs british. We have no problems understanding american english but with british sometimes we need some clarification.

    Some ppl I can understand like it was English and some ppl I STILL have a hard time listening to. I live in Colombia and almost always talk in Spanish. It is not the speed of the talker that kills me at all, it's that some people speak so "enredado" that I can hardly make out the words. I'm constantly practicing listening to different accents. Ironically I prefer accents "cantados" like the paisa/Caribbean/andalusian way more than flatter accents of bogota/Madrid

    He is pronouncing ll in different ways ,his name Guillermo(Guiyermo),then calle as (calye),later on says calle again as caye.
    Is there a rule for this ? I'm a little confused.

    • @LightSpeedSpanishChannel
      @LightSpeedSpanishChannel  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The One Normally in Spain the LL is pronounced as a soft J. Depending on the word, this will sound stronger sometimes. Don't worry too much about it, if he can alter the sound, so can you!

    • @TheMaru666
      @TheMaru666 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most Spanirds do both sounds deppending on the place of the letters y or ll more than deppending on the letter itself .

    • @ratonL
      @ratonL 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marie S
      The rule is “ll” is pronounced más o menos:
      • Guilyermo
      • Calye
      • Desarrolyo
      Somewhat like “million” in English, but a bit more merged together.
      ... but rules are meant to be broken. :v

    • @angeldelaverdad3122
      @angeldelaverdad3122 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it depends on the spanish language country for example the double LL in MANY latín american countries we pronounce LL = Y in yuca for example in argentina they pronounce LL = CH

      I haven't really spoken it in like over 10 years but it's still not completely forgotten to me. I just need to talk more on it and I think I would get it back completely. This guy also has a pretty thick spaniard accent that I'm not used to.
      Whenever I watch messi talk on interviews, I can probably understand about 80%+ of it. Sometimes it takes me a while to 'process' what he's saying, like I have to translate it in my head from spanish to english.
