Had a horrible overjet throughout my youth and was made fun of because of the way I looked. Surgery for this condition was first an option when I was 21 but it required bone grafts from the hip or pelvis to move the lower jaw forward. I wore braces for 6 years from 6th grade until senior year in HS but this did not correct the overbite. At 35 I wore braces for 2 more years and then had the surgery (no bone grafts needed) and had titanium screws and hardware to move the bottom jaw forward. To make me a "chin", I had a silicone graft inplanted. Wow what a difference - no TMJ, no difficulty biting or chewing and finally had straight and aligned teeth. It is now 40 years later and everything has remained stable and I am soooooo happy that I had this done. BTW I was wired shut for 6 weeks. This isn't done anymore. So glad my 3 girls didn't inherit this disfigurement or had to deal with the horrendous name calling that I experienced. Don't hesitate to get this done. Certainly changed my life.

This is literally me right now! Braces and rubber bands fixed bite but it relapsed to a ~4mm open bite, not to mention the my physically sunken jaw. I am 20 and just need my insurance to approve but I have United Health Care right this moment 😔

I was like how she was in the beginning of the video and my orthodontists chose to push my upper teeth back. My jaws are noticeably misaligned even though I no longer have an overbite. Do you think I’d be a candidate for orthognathic surgery?

Same happened to me except I now 40 and in severe pain due TMJ damage. Went through night gear, bands and about 8 years total of braces as a kid and teenager and knew I wouldn’t need surgery. Put it off too long and now I’m in pain daily

I would like to know how risky of the surgery for an underbite? I've heard that nerves may be affected. How about the infection? How successful of the surgery? Thanks.

It feels like her result in the second photo is better than her result with surgery, do you have a photo of this pacien fully healed?

I had a similar starting point but I got my upper premolars extracted when I was 19 to camouflage the overjet. Now at 36 my profile looks dished in and I have a severe deep bite. I was opting for lower jaw advancement by my orthodontist said it cannot be done anymore because there are not enough teeth in my upper jaw 😢

Yeah you shouldn't get extractions when you are younger it flattens your side profile

Consult with an orthognathic surgeon (maxillofacial surgeon), not an orthodontist.

@@henrykwieniawski7233 i did and the oral surgeon was agreeing in giving me a bsso but my orthodontist said then I would need to have my premolars reimplanted so dental implants which he didn’t recommend or extraction of my lower premolars 🫣

Hello. I have had a overjet at the start of my treatment with rubberbands (7mm). When this is fixed I belive next month, won't the bite go back to my original bite because of stopping the rubberbands? How does the bite stay after treatment. Thanks.

For the lady with the class 2 overbite how big was the overbite. Mine is 8mm but from the side it looks more like an inch. The surgeons have said nothing about moving my chin as the operation is purely for function not for aesthetics

Can I get invisalign after double jaw surgery to correct an overbite? After surgery I have flaring that needs correcting.

Sorry surgery was for an underbite correction. I now have a slight overjet with flaring.

Can I get jaw surgery at 17

You'll usually want to wait until you're finished growing. 18 is usually old enough for females, and males may need to be 19-20. It depends if you feel you are still growing or if you're finished.
