  • @freshturns_snowboarding
    @freshturns_snowboarding 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This was a cool episode. I remember in the 7th grade I tried to learn to snowboard and hated it, and thought none of the coaches were saying the right things. It was frustrating, exhausting, and felt like failure. That same summer I learned to skateboard/longboard (mostly on flat ground, but still learned how to turn with my legs), and I just watched tons of snowboarding movies, thought about how boarding was gonna feel, etc., and the VERY FIRST day of my second season it was just about easier than walking. All done by mental connection, not ruminating on things like "point your front arm where you want to go" or "shoulders over knees over ankles" thins. Granted, I was already pretty athletic due to other sports so the "athletic position" was already easy, but the progress that your brain can make without much physical practice is pretty crazy.

  • @RiversideM
    @RiversideM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think I can add something to the mental fatigue thing:
    In bmx I realized that trying something over and over will help you get comfortable with specific movements - those movements can be bad incorrect though. So if you developed a pattern that for this trick is not good and you try your trick with your incorrect move you're teaching your body to do the wrong thing and it's really hard to get rid of. So I don't try the same trick a hundred of times on end, I'll try it like 10-15 times, then do something else and get back to this later. You're kinda starting a new session and have to get back into it again, which means you'd have to find your pattern again - good opportunity to try to find those mistakes when your pattern isn't cemented in again like it would be after 100 tries.

    awesome vid! For the series though ... I'd really like to have a breakdown on how riders use their (knees) legs to control, turn the bike, off camber, "turn with the rear", etc. Watching World cups and even your ghost camera ... Every time top riders use their knees really differently from the "Group B" (which is not like that group are bad riders at all) and yet NO ONE has even done a video on this skill ... god knows how many times I've put this comment in GMBN videos and numeros other youtubers without a response. Hope you do something on it

    This is a good start to the series. I think the step that I have failed at is #2, make a plan. For example, a few years ago, I wanted to learn how to manual. I took an afternoon and tried for 3-4 hours and wore myself out mentally and physically. I never went back and tried again. If I set a plan to practice 15 minutes a day, I think I can get it, and maybe within the 3-4 hours of total time I have tried in my life. I suppose I may want to also "Break the skill down" and make a wooden manual practice stand.
