What I love about this song is the fact that Bo shows us that despite all the humor he provides and happiness, he was once at the bottom of the food chain. Not only does he understand what others are going through, he portrays the thought that this comedy is done to prove that those kids are more than a number in the system or a body in a seat.

It’s clear that the use of slurs here is meant to reflect how other people view the nerds/reclaim the words that have been used to put down others for so long. It’s a very thin line to walk, and the use of those words by a self described straight white man does make me uncomfortable, but it doesn’t discount the value of the song and I’m still listening on repeat. Bo Burnham is the man i think I admire to be. The one who is accepted and appreciated for him just being him, and being able to do what he loves as his living. It’s clear that the use of slurs here is meant to reflect how other people view the nerds/reclaim the words that have been used to put down others for so long. It’s a very thin line to walk, and the use of those words by a self described straight white man does make me uncomfortable, but it doesn’t discount the value of the song and I’m still listening on repeat. You can criticize something you love while still acknowledging that its importance is far greater than its faults.

Bo Burnham is the man i think I admire to be. The one who is accepted and appreciated for him just being him, and being able to do what he loves as his living. He puts his heart and soul into his music while talking about deeper, stronger topics while everyone else laughs at what he wants them to laugh at.
This man is so comfortable in who he is and what he does, and it's worked out so that so many people look up to him for it. That's what I want.
