- So I've finally gotten around to reviewing Protection. And once again this show is going strength to strength. It's crazy how different this season feels compared to the ones that have come before. Some legit good writing, and some truly funny moments. Enjoy.
Props to whoever wrote Lila here. Normally she only tells blatant lies that no one older than 5 would fall for, but for once, she technically told the truth and twisted it to her words, and even had "evidence" to back up her claim - THAT is how actual manipulators work.
I loved how Lila used her own experience as a manipulator to explain what she was accusing Marinette of. Basically "if I was Marinette, this is how and why I would manipulate Adrien and everyone else."

Bruh, Kagami has been going THROUGH it this season. All of the episodes Gloob has released has made me feel so much more worse for her. 😭

I'm in the same situation as her my crush likes my friend ;-; I mean she doesn't like him back but I literally helped him confess to her 💀
I don't judge Kagami because all the other characters were manipulated very easily, and Adrien himself wanted to give Lila a chance even after learning that she lies, so I don't judge Kagami for doing the same and believing that Lila can stop, after all Kagami at least realized that what she did wasn't right, and unlike the others, she realized that Lila actually doesn't like Marinete and don't just want to be friends with her like she says.
Yeah that's why I still love Kagami more than the others, she literally made things clear with Lila at the end that if she tried to turn her against Marinette once again, their "friendship" wouldn't work. That why Lila will have to be more cautious with Kagami than she is with the others.
It also works because Kagami was able to see through everyone's bs, but Marinette "made her weak" and that is why she couldn't see through Laila's bs like she'd normally do, which only gives her argument about Marinette all more credibility.

"Lila is the one who doesn't like Marinette not the other way around" did you forget that when Lila was first introduced Marinette instantly hated her because she was a bit too "close" to Adrien? and keep in mind that was before Marinette even found out about Lila's lying habits, so in reality Marinette hated the girl because she didn't like how she was all over the guy she liked, a guy who wasn't even her BOYFRIEND. Now imagined if Zoe had a crush on Adrien do you think Marinette would've been kind to her the moment they met? I don't think so. That's why I don't really like this show the protagonist is a hypocrite and a Mary-sue. Come at me Marinette stans! I know y'all can't accept the harsh truth especially the Adrinette shippers, yeah y'all know who you are.
@@lennygriffin2761 what I meant is that when Lila returned everyone thought that Marinete didn't like her and wanted to provoke her, when in fact Lila didn't like her either and was the one who wanted to ruin her life and still like this until now, but Kagami realized that Lila actually doesn't like Marinette and tried to speak ill of her so that the two would no longer be friends. And yes, what Marinete did in the beginning is very wrong, even if eventually Lila ended up having her eyes on Marinete at that moment there was none of that, and unfortunately apologize wasn't enough and Lila is acting almost like a psycho now with all those cuted photos 😐
Okay but. Nath going from CRUSHING HARD on mari to literally preparing AND DRAWING plans for her to get together with the guy she likes is the character development no one talks about. Props for my man.
Seriously, as Nino in Season 1 Animan it lasted ONE episode!! Tho I ship Lukanette, I ship Ninonette very HARD!! I actually ship Nathaniel with Lila.

Lila has the ability to make other people's brains smoother. It's the only explanation for why the character's become even dumber around her.
Kagami honestly feels the most like a teen. We see how emotional she can really be while we also see how she bottles things in sometimes. We see her mess up sometimes, be it directly her fault or because she listened to the wrong person. We see her grow. Sure, she may regress once in a while, but she always grows at least a little more.
I'm glad her first impression in Riposte isn't her default.

I theorize the main reason gabe wants adrien to be with kagami is that was the deal that would get him the alliance rings. If they don’t end up together kagamis mom could deactivate the alliance ring or reveal him as monarch.

Interesting theory, yet I get the feeling it's more then that. The Adrigami captain of the tiny row boat I'm good with any Adrigami moments. The friendship growing after they (stupidly) broke up could build greater. Of course that is if the writers weren't so incompetent but they are and we know it.
I think the real reason is that, they were created as sentimonsters from birth with the intention of the two of them eventually getting married, taking over their parent's companies and merging them together into some kind of conglomerate.
I literally got so happy when Natalie just told Adrien to do whatever tf he wants like it felt so refreshing
the only thing this episode is missing: Closure for Adrigami. I NEED Adrien to see/understand Kagami's pain/frustration and have deep meaningful talk with her. This would have been the perfect episode for that. If Mari and Luka can have A WHOLE EPISODE addressing their relationship after they broke up, why can't these two have a MOMENT?
Because unfortunately Marinette has to be in every episode. Even in ones she shouldn’t be in!

I mean manipulaters exist and the things the accused Marinette of were at least realistic for a person to do (for a person like Lila for example). It was way better than her usual lies, like being friends with Ladybug, her parents being friends with prince Ali and diplomates, her having Tinnitus and being healed by Ladybug, her having a disease to not be able to control what she says and having ball-o-phobia.

Also important to note that in the sub, Gabe said to Nathalie “You gave Adrien a counter-order!?” as well as he said Nathalie’s name right after seeing Adrien and Marinette because he knows Nathalie is the only one who could’ve made Adrien go against what he said.
Ok but when Lila says that Marinette's secretly a manipulative liar Kagami just believes her so fast. If you were Kagami and someone told you one of your close friends is a liar and manipulative, wouldn't you say something like "But I've known Marinette longer than I've known you. Do you have proof to back such an accusation?" *Lila says no then starts up again with another lie. "Slander is punishable by slicing in half per traditional samurai code but I'm feeling generous today, I'll give you a 10 second head start." *cue Lila shaped dust cloud*
You'd be surprised at how many relatives and long-time friends will turn against you with a well-timed lie. Why do you think narcissists and sociopaths are so dangerous ? They observe, they plan, d they target exactly where there's no alibi to trap people. Also humans of the 21st century make ideals pawns. Tgey're taught to admire manipulators as "smart and talented" and to believe everything they're told without any critical thinking. They're taught any form of doubt is bad and a sign of low IQ. So oc things like that now happen on a daily basis xause the dirty, values-less people of now are unable to stop and look back and weight what you said they should. You could save someone's life and they will STILL trust a Lila they barely know over you. Trust me, been there, never again. That's why it's better nowadays to take care of yourself. Now whenever I feel like helping someone, I just remind myself that they will backstab me at the first Lila telling them incoherent shit. That way I don't risk my health or life anymore for these dumbasses. Since they're all so in love with the likes of Lila, let them call their beloved liars for help and see if they come.
I appreciate how Lila was written in this episode. Not only do her lies actually make sense, but I can also see why Kagami would fall for them.

I must admit, that Lila's manipulative lies were well written this time around. It was pretty annoying to see EVERYONE believe her lies even though a kindergartner wouldn't believe them.
That being said, I hate how the writers insist on letting her get away with the things she does. I'm glad that Kagami isn't going to be extremely gullible like the rest of Marinette's classmates (ESPECIALLY Alya) when it comes to Lila, but I also don't like how she went back to being friends with her. Lila is really a Villain Sue.
I'd also like to point out, as someone who hasn't seen the episode yet, that Adrien's mentioned MULTIPLE times that he's allergic to pigeons. Why would you bring in pigeons when your friend has told you multiple times that he's allergic? When will anyone get that hint?
Also, for how willing Gorilla is to make Adrien happy over doing what Gabe wants/says like Natalie, part of me wonders what he knows and if, maybe, he and Natalie have something more going on behind the scenes that we don't see as the audience.
How do Adrian's closest friends consistently forget he's allergic to pigeon feathers?

I'm definitely excited to see how all this drama unfolds. As a sentimonster theorist, I'm blown away that it appears they're truly going that route, and the potential drama seems truly bottomless, We've seen how despair, anger, fear, trauma and rage affects the Agreste family several times (Chat Blanc, Ephemeral), we see their true acceptance without hinderance of one another in Oblivio. I'm here for it. For what it's worth, it's a good show and a good premise. That's why we're all here, isn't it?

Kagami as been there HELL this whole season 5. In total she been akumaitzed 5 times. Twice in this very season, one a new form and the other re-akumaitzed here in Protection into Riposte!!
Gabriel and Mrs. Tsurugi's partnership always pushing Adrigami together after everything is what really interesting me.

Of course. The series is horrible for many different aspects. There is no hope for for it. It's a forced love story of two unhealthy kids that go through drama they shouldn't be in.
To be honest, ditching your friend with their crush isn't as cringey as what her friends did. It's better and based. Her friends, on the other hand, are weird af.
For real. Like her friend's previous plans like in Chat Blanc, they were weird and overly complicated but at least they let the actual romance side of it be Marinette's choice. Like it was Marinette's choice in that episode to kiss Adrian in front of her friends.
Her friends are honestly kind of creepy. I get being excited about it, but I'm pretty sure that filming that kind of stuff is a legit crime.
Platonic Adrigami is still good Adrigami. I appreciate their friendship a lot. And I can't wait for Felix and Kagami to become a couple!^^

I’m kinda liking what they are doing with Lila and Kagami. This is the second time Lila tried to come between Kagami and Marinette’s friendship. Kagami is also the second person to warn Lila about coming after Marinette. Lila now has to be cautious around Adrien and Kagami, because even if they don’t know fully what she’s doing they can both see that she clearly does have something against Marinette and won’t be as easily manipulated like everyone else. However Lila is trying to use Gabriel to come between Adrien and Marinette and get what she wants. She can’t do the same thing with the Kagami because she doesn’t have someone else to use to manipulate Kagami.
Also Lila clearly wants Adrien and she even tells Gabriel to find someone for Adrien to be with to manipulate him better. She obviously meant herself but as we see two episodes later with the diamond ball both Gabriel and Tomoe want Kagami and Adrien to be together. Once Lila realizes this she’s not gonna be to happy. Plus Lila is very put off by the fact that she wasn’t invited to the ball. Kagami’s bluntly telling her that she isn’t a ‘precious stone’ and Gabriel telling her off at the end.
In the episode they mention part of their research for the elaborate ferris wheel plan is shojo manga. Which makes sense, but anyone whose read shojos knows that on most occasions the kiss comes before the i love you and only happens when the two leads are alone, not surrounded by their creepy fanfiction friends
The thing I don’t like about Protection is that Kagami stays friends with Lila. Like bruh, girl just manipulated you against your only friend besides Adrien up until perfection and you still want to be her friend?
Yep, that's the thing that makes me appreciate Kagami less than before despite the fact that I love her character. I just hope she won't be manipulated like that again otherwise I'll start despising her character like I do for Marinette's classmates
Everyone just turns their brain off around Lila and that's why I can't stand that girl: she's a mary sue.
Why is that strange? Think about it from kagami's perspective. She had only two friends and those friendships weren't that great. She has a crush on Adrien, which makes the friendship a little weird and Marinette is the girl her crush has a crush on, which also makes the friendship weird. Not to mention her friendship with Marinette was already weird, since Marinette is kinda selfish and doesn't respect or recognise kagami's boundaries.
So is it so strange that she wants a third friend? A friend she doesn't have a crush on and isn't dating her crush?
Keep in mind, Kagami doesn't know what lila is scheming. All she knows is that lila wants to be friends with her, is actually there for her and that lila for some reason doesn't like Marinette. Which isn't even that strange, because no one is liked by everyone.

But this doesn't make Lila a Mari Sue, since Mari Sue is a protagonist stereotype. Mari Sue is "perfect", "too good for this world" and "only bad guys disagree with her wisdom". And although you could argue that Marinette is the villain in Lilas story, that still isn't enough to make her a Mari Sue. (it would be so interesting to see the story from Lilas perspective, with Marinette as the villain)
@Aranoura agree one hundred percent and thank you straight out kagami with marinette friendship is weird, and marinette is disrespectful and selfish towards kagami, of real i don't like how marinette do it countless times with kagami trying to sabotage kagami, ruin her date, Kagami just wants to make friends marinette constantly jealous of kagami, disrespectful, even if they're already friends in ss4, marinette still doesn't take kagami's words seriously, forcing her to meet Adrien again her will ,, kagami helps marinette with everything give good advice don't judge her even when marinette is weird, don't hate or attack or sabotage marinette, be there to support not push her. All I mean is that marinette is not worthy of being friends with kagami.

Lila's manipulation of Kagami is the only one that works, because Lila actually manipulates Kagami as opposed to outright lying to her, and Kagami herself is a deeply troubled individual with an abusive mother, so it's much more believable that she'll fall for Lila's manipulation. Kagami believed that Marinette was just another fan of Adrien who manipulated him because Kagami herself has been manipulated by her mother, and she's a somewhat traumatized indivudual due to the verbal abuse from her mother. Lila's manipulation wouldn't work on anyone else, and it's why other characters seem so out-of-character when Lila is able to sell her lies to them.
6:50 That really annoyed me in the episode. Gabriel showing a BLIND Woman his destroyed arm. I don't know, if the producers simply forgot, that Tomoe is blind or if it is some kind of inclusion, that Gabriel doesn't even think anymore, that she is blind

I am actually glad that kagami is becoming a three dimensional character, when she was first introduced in season 2 she was just this second love interest who is made to make fans think that adriantte is in danger as a ship nothing more nothing less, but now I can feel her pain and see her flaws now I can enjoy her scenes and waiting for her to be on the screen , I just love kagami so much in this season she is miserable in a way that makes her interesting, and I am also glad that they made her still have feelings for Adrien which add some drama to the relationship of adriantte as the both care for her, unlike Luka who couldn't care more or less about him 🙂🙂

The scene where Lila was manipulating Kagami was one of the best in the entire show. Fantastic writing and a scarily convincing performance

we can't forget the fact on why Gabe doesn't want Adrein to be close to marinette because it will ruin his plan, as what he have learned in the episode elation that Chat noir has feelings for Marinette and he will use this emotion to ruin chat noir from ladybug.
From Gabe's perspective it must look weird. Marinette is in love with Cat Noir, but dating Adrien. So maybe he wants to protect him (probably not).
This episode had season 1 tone with season 5 plot points which is what I’ve wanted this whole time. I loved this episode.
What i would like to see in the future is an episode where Marinette and Adrian actually end up alone, like there was no planning they just were alone. it would be adorable if the both of them would start talking about how their friends come up with these crazy plans. and they laughed about it and then talk about how they really feel because it's just them alone and they aren't pressured by others.
All in all I LOVE this episode, simply because it emphasizes Kagami's care for both Adrien and Marinette. Yeah Smarty, canon Adrigami romance is dead. But you know what? I DON'T GIVE A ROTTEN ROSE!! YOU UNDERSTAND ME?! Adrigami is still the most healthiest ship in this crappy series.
No matter the moments Adrigami is still just wholesome and adorable. She tries to get her ex-boyfriend with their mutual friend god it hurts my heart!! Kagami still has a right to pissed off. Adrien didn't want to attempt trying in their relationship yet because it's Dupain-Cheng and disgusting plot armor he's like "I'm ready now."
Lila's manipulation is beautifully written here. I won't deny that, yet it's true as well. Marinette's representation since Season 1 right now, is cringe-worthy trickier. Always self-sabotage sure, but think about it. All their friends motivation is to force Adrien and her together. Marinette desperate desire to be with Adrien but at the real same time terrified sickly of being near him. Yes, Marinette as Lila is liar and manipulator just of course NOT as big as the brunette herself.
Classmates plots, goodness guys get something else to obsess about. It's all just weird and NOT in a good way. Come on people!! Adrien is allergic to feathers, why with the pigeons?! No offend Mr. Xavier Ramier.
Side note: I'm thankful this episode didn't have Alya or Cholé appear in it. Can't stand either of those girls.

The beginning of the episode was so much cringe, but the rest was perfect. I've never been a fan of Adrienette but they are actually cute together when Marinette isn't nervous around him anymore. Lila's manipulation in this episode was on another level. I felt bad for Kagami, it was so sweet how Adrien and Marinette hugged her at the end.
In my opinion, Mark and Nathaniel are one of the best power couples in the series

I think Monarch intentionally cataclysmed himself so that the butterfly miraculous could absorb the energy and that is the reason why miraculous was turned into rings by the destructive energy.
My headcannon is that those goody two shoes classmates of Marinette and Adrien is the one who draw those cloud of them kissing, I can almost hear them signing they did not kiss. Lol headcannon accepted
I always watch a Smarty Pants review as soon as I've watched the episode, absolutely hilarious. Love them!
Srsly this is the only episode where Lila's lies are good
Given that Adrien has been pressured and forced to do stuff by his dad all his life I actually love that he doesn't do anything like that to marinette. He knows how it feels to be pressured by people so ofc he doesn't want her to go through that either
Coming back after getting the missing episode of Derision, it's starting to make sense why she acts like that around Adrien and not Luka.
She's still paranoid he might take advantage and hurt her, because he's "friends with Chloe".
I never even thought about it like that. It makes sense to because she immediately judged him with the gum incident in Origins
for me, a kiss before you even share how you feel about each other seems like a very bad idea. communication is important in like 99.99% of relationships, especially in our close/intimate relationships.
Honestly yeah. But even then I'd argue that "I love you" comes a bit later.
Unless it's a case where you've loved eachother for years or there's some time factor, usually you'd go with the much less intense "Hey I like you" or "Hey, I have feelings for you." Before going for an "I love you"
@@bluebird1914 it doesn't HAVE to be for a specific length of time, it's all based on how you feel at the end of the day when it comes to love, I think.
Yeah, but at least where I'm from, you usually start with "I like you" or "I'm falling in love with you" rather than jump straight to "I love you", which is a pretty strong phrase. I can definitely see the "I love you" before the kiss but I don't see it as a bad idea to kiss someone before you get to the "I love you" phase.
@@ellag3265 for me, sometimes an "i like you" can mean a lot more than an " I love you" depending on the context, I feel like "love" is not a limited emotion, so it can mean anything that the people using it feel like it means. I love you CAN make things awkward.... but sometimes you need a bit of awkwardness in an actual relationship with someone you care for. Honesty is the best policy"

I despise how much plot armor is being featured into this season. A lot of these plot points just don’t. And sense.
Lila’s lies were always shaky and unrealistic, but the fact that even Kagami is falling for it now, and that she is once again hung up on Adrien after everything that has happened is ridiculous.

Adrien is like a pro at times making a rookie mistake after rookie mistake. Heck, even when in the future he ends up cataclysming Bunnix's watch in the future later on, and he'll probably wonder why he ended up losing Marinette after his dad tried to break them up and Nathalie spilled him out when she saw him transform to save her from getting akumatized
At this point I'm surprised Marinette isn't warning people about Lila as Ladybug.
