In the past (seasons 3-6) their relationship wasn’t the greatest mainly because of the love triangle, but from seasons 8 and onward I liked their relationship. There wasn’t really any drama and their moments were cute

What's funny is even as a kid, I thought to myself why would Nya like Cole? They interact, but it didn't seem like Cole had so much interest in Nya, and Jay and Nya did spend time with each other and were worried for each other. To make it worse, in the same episode where Jay and Nya were on a date, Jay was turning into a Snake and Nya revealed to the others and Jay she was the Samurai, Cole explicitly said he wish he had a sister like Nya. Meaning he only see her as a friend and nothing more.
Maybe they intended making Jay irrationally angry for comedy's sake, and the narrative does paint him being stupid! But yeah, lampshading not makes something good alone, something should get done about them.
I am convinced Cole only played along with this because he wanted to piss Jay off nothing more. Like if my best friend beat me up because some he claimed I was trying to take the girl he was interested in I'd be pissed too. Tho the more rational thing would be stop talking to him which Cole couldn't exactly do when they're trying to save the world atm. Then he did the simpler thing and stoped talking to him.
As dumb as the start of this plot point was, all it really did was show the issues in Jaya from the start: Jay's obsession and Nya letting other things define her. And this is all stuff they sorted out during Skybound, with Jay being called out on his creepy behavior and Nya coming clean about how she keeps on these labels and outside factors define her and her relationships, when she's the one who should be choosing for herself (even though I thought of Nya as more self-assured)
So even if the catalyst for all this drama is dumb as heck, I can at least recognize that it exposed the cracks in Jay and Nya's relationship when it was at its infancy, and I can accept that they grew up after that. And honestly? Teens do dumber stuff than this, so I can tolerate it. I've seen worse IRL, trust me.

Just imagine how much more powerful the message, our first obsessions and passions aren't always the best road to take in life or how it actually shows Nya is independent of any prophecies or visions or whatever, and that those visions were mere constructs by the Ninja. All are more interesting options. Especially as Jay and Nya's relationship has received no further actual development in the dynamic or anything else past Season 6.
Fun fact: Cole never loved Nya. He was only confused on why he got all the special attention he got from Nya. And Also Even Tommy Andreson hated the Love triangle. And this just proves on how pointless it is.

To be honest, when I was a kid I really found this arc annoying. I was actually all for the relationship between Jay and Nya, but this arc really tested my patience. It didn't help that I unlucky missed the parts of the rebooted where there was shown that Cole wasn't at fault at all for this, which made me hate him for no reason. But eventually, after fully seeing those moments in the reruns, I understood that it was the other way around. You won't believe how happy I was at the end of The Skybound to see this arc finally end on a positive note.
As a kid I was so bummed out that they included the love triangle arc but not enough General Cryptor and Pixel/Zane screentime in Rebooted and not enough screentime for the other participants in Tournament Of Elements 💀

Misako is the most under utilized character in the entire series (Pixel is a close second). She is such an interesting character and there’s so much they could do with her and the show does absolutely nothing with her
I feel the same way, they don't write on her enough and just made her a character to throw in sometimes. Like Maya and Ray have more writing and more backstory than her.
Yea Misako is just used to give expesition also I think Skylor can be third on that list she should have joined the team at some point if not in season 4 then maybe in season 9 they should have developed the romance between her and Kai more and flesh out her dynamics between the other ninja then you also have the ponytail trio (Nya,Pixal,Skylor)
My headcannon for the love triangle is that the overlord was trying to start his plan of tearing the ninja apart with having jay and Cole turn against each other so he fucked with the love machine to say Cole was nya’s perfect partner not jay and it only really started to boil during the tournament of elements
As someone who loves Jay a lot, also hated this so much just because it was really a waste of actual screen time that could’ve been on better stuff and I do love the tension between coal and Jay most of the time but they were not cooking with this. Also, I feel like Jay doesn’t really get a lot of cool stuff like new powers, he mostly has just gotten tortured, make constant jokes throughout the show, which somewhere funny but not all and make mistakes which everyone gets mad at him for then he has to make up for those mistakes, it would be cool to give him something good other than his relationship with Nya. plus in the very beginning the relationship wasn’t even that stable, almost all the other ninjas have better relationships than he does.
@@kastenedwards1217 Lloyd is always getting cool stuff and it is very important to the story which make sense, Kai doesn’t get to spend a lot of time with his love interest but their relationship was always kind of healthy plus him and his sister got to meet the parents, he also sacrificed himself recently. Coal was a ghost so he had cool ghost powers and have sacrificed herself multiple times, he has cool magma hands and even has a new power, a possible love interest and got to hear how his mother was a hero. Zane has sacrificed his self a couple times as well, he’s the most unique out of the group with the whole thing an android and he has a healthy relationship with his love interest, he got to meet his creator. Nya started out as a cool samurai then became the water ninja, she was incredibly important in stopping the ghost and she literally became a part of the entire ocean. there’s also the fact both of them are teachers and same with Lloyd, Jay on the other hand has barely anything compared to them, they constantly try to make him comedy relief so he doesn’t get as much character development as the others and almost everything I can list about him is he making a mistake and then having to fix it while everyone’s mad at him. it’s pretty often He does stupid stuff and doesn’t learn from his license even though he should, I love him a lot but if it’s not making a mistake or suffering from a mistake then there’s literally nothing else to say about him. He literally has only popped up in the newest season two or three times, so quite literally everyone except Jay has gotten an incredible amount of development or something interesting.

@@kastenedwards1217 I understand your point of you but I plainly just disagree, Kai was one of the main reasons that snake dude that could steal powers was defeated and I don’t remember and I don’t remember Jay defeating any main villains, he helped start the evil Jen, but that was because of poison he had to get as everyone was mad at him for partially causing a lot of shit to happen and your point with him inventing thing is just like me bringing up Zane being robotic. he did that in the first two seasons and then Zane or Nay would do it, plus now we literally have someone with tech powers so that’s another person to take that. I will admit Kai is called dumb a lot but that’s mostly from his own sister which is expected and the same happens to Jay, also I’m not completely sure if Kai or Zane got any new powers but they definitely have had things to explore them as characters, they were both villains at one point because of influence from weapons and they’ve came to understand their powers even better or robotics there’s been multiple times Zane being a robot has been useful even later. I love Jay and I’m not saying he doesn’t get more than most side characters, but he’s gotten way less than any of the other main cast and most of what he has is related to him making mistakes and having to fix them like I said before. He barely ever invent things throughout the entire show, because of his stupid wishing his father is a famous actor and his mother was the master of lightning by then that whole season is erased because of going back in time and none of them even remember any of that, we never hear about his parents ever again so that’s a pretty good example of something he has way less than the others. I mean he was adopted which I loved his step parents but they gave him something just like all the others then just never used it. So again I understand your point but I see it from a different point of you and I watch the show several times..
I hated how Nya acted towards Jay in season 6. She literally starts the whole season by getting mad at Jay for saying ‘we.’ Like what do you mean ‘we’? You’ve been in a relationship since season 1. Why do you have to be an independent girl boss who’s too good to be with a guy?
To her defense, I believe her and Jay were taking a break from their relationship, technically they weren't together and with the whole part about the Ninja fans treating her like she wasn't a part of the team, she felt left out, so I get why she was upset, and Jay being pushy didn't help her either.
They were on a break by Season 6. She wasn't trying to be an independent girl boss, Jay was being too obsessive and she got tired of being defined by her relationships instead of her as a persom.
To me, personally, it's totally understandable like, everyone only saw her as "the girl" or "the ninja girl" of the group and she was called that in NGTV News and interviews of Ninjago, and was feeling pressured to answer if she was in love with Jay or not, they were in a break of their relationship, and was not being seen as one of the team, just "the girl", I'd be pissed too ngl.
I'm pretty sure the writers realized just how fucking stupid they had been with nya on season 3 so they decided to ignore what happened and made her good again on season 6
@@Marlin123 Tournament of elements was more about Zane and Lloyd. It was about Zane in a way cuz they only accepted the invitation to find Zane. It was also about Lloyd a little bit as what appeared to be the "final showdown" was between Lloyd and Chen. Kai never got his season like the rest of them.

The fact that the only reason we got great episodes like Versus and the Last Resort was because Nya let a computer tell her who she should be into is the dumbest thing this show has ever done, and also Blackout is my least favorite episode of the whole show.
It’s weird how after Rebooted, Wu’s Academy doesn’t get brought up, referenced, or shown in the following seasons. In fact, it’s hard to place Rebooted on an exact date as each of the seasons in the original show happened a year after each other, due to The Ninjago Timeline being a concrete mess.
Not each season is after a year, Hunted is only a couple weeks maximum after SoG. MotO also can't be much longer I think S11 was also mentioned to be just several months after 10.
The one Jaya thing that annoys me: Nya never says she loves Jay! Jay says it MULTIPLE times and Nya only says it ONCE to the door of the building Jay was in and even then she didn't say it, she just mouthed it! (Spoilers for Ninjago Dragons Rising Season 2 Part 2 🡓) But she did FINALLY say I love you to his face in NGR Season 2 Part 2.....EXCEPT HES EVIL SO HE REPLIED WITH "And I will always hate you"! It B R O K E my heart!!!

Personally I absolutely adore Skybounds ending. It’s my favorite ending to any season. Skybound is arguably the darkest season of the entire show and I love it for that. With Pixel dying and Ninjago city being destroyed I feel like there’s really no way they could’ve ended the season without erasing everything since at the end of the day, Ninjago is a kids show and status quo is God. I think the writers did a fantastic job at making the erasure of everything that happens in Skybound work really well. Nadakhan constantly twists peoples words in order to get what he wants and he easily could’ve twisted Jay‘s wish but he couldn’t because he was too busy being in excruciating pain. Jays wish “I wish you had taken my hand and nobody had found that teapot in the first place” hits so damn hard for me. Everything that happened in Skybound didn’t technically happen, but it also did at the same time and nobody remembers it except for Jay and Nya. Jay and Nya we’re in the center of Skybound so it makes sense that they would be the only ones to remember everything and they get to keep all of their character development I’m fine with the erasure of everything else. Also one of the writers said that Nadakhan remembers Skybound to so if the show ever decides to do anything with the constant teases of him returning, then boy is he going to be pissed

Bruh this happens every time somebody just mentions Skybound. People argue so much about whether it’s good or not. It’s hysterical. Skybound is fantastic imo, it definitely has problems but what it does right it does so well that I don’t even care
Ninjago is such an odd series because it's been going for over a decade, has a devoted fanbase and it has all of this lore and fandom talk, theories and controversies... but basically no one talks about it outside of the devoted fans, like, you don't see people posting on Twitter about how their favorite ship is ruined or how the last season wasn't as good as the other ones like you usually see with other modern shows.
Never in my life did I think there would be a channel that would talk about Ninjago (i sort of watched it over the recent years), so Thumbs Up to you man.
The love triangle was shit. But Skybound was the best season. It gave Jay development. He started off unlikeable but became more. The season is great. It fixed the love the triangle. Jay was supposed to come off that way. It was to show his growth through the season. I also don’t like how it ended but the season overall was amazing.
Finally, someone brought this up again. I hated the love triangle plot with passion, even as a kid it was obvious to me that Cole had no romantic interest in Nya, the whole thing felt like the writers regretted making Jaya a thing so early on in the series, so my guesses are one, they weren't expecting the show to run for years and two, Jaya didn't have your regular lengthy love story progress, or atleast no onscreen romantic progress/development between them. So I guess the love triangle plot was kind of a restart/reboot/new beginning to their love story?? All in all, Jaya were a mess until later seasons , I guess writing love stories/couples weren't the previous writers' strongest point.
Ngl if you think about it, the love triangle kinda snowballed into a net positive for the show. The jay and cole fight in the tournament is considered one of the best fights and episode by a lot of people, and skybound would've never happened without the s3 triangle and skybound is one of the best seasons in the show.
This arc actually made me hate Nya so much, season 5 and 9 made her a better character and now thanks to Dragons Rising started to make her one of my favorites. Btw justice for Cole!!!

My take on the Jay, Cole, Nya, love triangle was that the writers I think were hinting or at least trying to hint at Nya finding Cole more attractive than Jay because of how more mature Cole is compared to Jay. Throughout most of the series, Cole had displayed a much more manly strongman persona with an air of confidence in himself, whereas Jay while confident in his abilities, lacked some semblance of awareness regarding certain social cues and was known for being a tad childish with his video game addiction and his obsession with those sci-fi movies involving that one man who later turned out to be his biological father. And there's also the issue regarding Nya's personality as well. Despite describing herself as a strong independent woman, like many women do IRL, Nya rather paradoxically (also like many IRL women, let's be honest) either consciously or subconsciously seems to gravitate more towards Cole, a man who seems to more closely resemble an old school macho man. Indicating that she like many women her age (presuming she's in her mid 20s at the time) she, despite publicly expressing that she's more modern with her approach to dating and romance, secretly or subconsciously she actually seems to want a more traditionally ideal partner, a variable strong man who's much more readily able to defend, stand up for, and provide for her. But as the love triangle concludes (or in other words the writers finally gave up) with the end of the Jeeb arc, she eventually chooses Jay over Cole both because Cole doesn't really show any real interest in her and because she and Jay have had much more of an emotional history with each other and thus a stronger connection. And plus, realistically (as far as sci-fi / sci-fan stories go anyways), what woman wouldn't fall head over heels in love for you knowing that you altered TIME ITSELF to save you from dying from a poisonous accident? Unless there's some heinous plot armor or plot contriving involved, there's no reason Nya wouldn't choose Jay.
The Chad Cole not ever really liking Nya, made this ironically funny for me. It just ruins the characters to a full circle as it doesn’t really go anywhere.
I don’t know if a writer on Ninjago said this or if a TH-camr suggested it but I heard from someone a while ago who made this suggestion that would’ve at least made this arc make sense- the Perfect Match machine was going to say Jay, but the Overlord hacked it and made it say Cole in order to drive a wedge between the ninja. This would make so much sense and help make the Overlord a more diabolical villain twisting and manipulating the ninja’s emotions and relationships to his advantage. What would also help is if Nya pointed out some of Cole’s best traits like his selflessness, his leadership skills and his ability to make friends. This way it would at least make sense as to why she thinks the machine might have picked him as her perfect match. With all this, it doesn’t make the love triangle more bearable but it at least helps it makes sense. Also I’m pretty sure the reason why Jay is only mad at Cole and not Nya in the Invitation is because he’s the world’s biggest simp towards her. And this season just proves it even more. He finds out that his friend is the perfect match for the girl of his dreams and instead of backing down or questioning anything, he just attacks Cole even though Cole doesn’t know what’s going on, which also shows Jay’s selfishness and immaturity. Basically to him, if he can’t have Nya, no one can.
To anyone that thinks Nadhakan is a better villain than Moro, respectfully, you are not the brightest person. Nadhakan was just an annoying character. Every time he appeared he always tries to sound so big brain which I'll give him that, he was able to outsmart a nindroid, but it was by twisting his words and finding loopholes which Zane clearly said not to do. Moro's character showed that he was just a kid and couldn't fully understand the consequences of his actions until the very end. Nadhakan could've just gotten his crew back and chilled with them but nope, he wanted to take them to Djinjago since pirates had been "forgotten". When he saw his home realm falling apart (due to the ninja destroying the preeminant/cursed realm) he blamed the ninja and wanted revenge on them while before he had no idea of ANYTHING happening cuz he was trapped in a teapot. Also, if the ninja hadn't destroyed the cursed realm then Djinjago would've been cursed by the preeminant - which mind you would've been a much worse fate - and they didn't even know that they would end up destroying 2 realms in one. Not even Wu knew and from what we're shown, Lloyd and Moro didn't even end up in Djinjago so no one knew that realm existed let alone know that the cursed realm was the sister realm of Djinjago. Sure you could also say Moro was being a brat by wanting to become the green ninja but don't forget, Kai also wanted to be the green ninja but he was lucky enough to have 3 other ninja AND sensei Wu to guide him to not become evil. Nadhakan was also just a greedy djinn who wanted infinite wishes for himself so he could destroy everything which is why he wanted to marry Delara and ended up marrying Nya when he found out Delara was dead, he just wanted ultimate power (shocker). At least in the end Moro realised his mistake and sacrificed himself and gave the realm crystal to Wu but Nadhakan was just pure evil, Moro was broken. You can't convince me that Skybound was better than Possession, also, for most of Possession it was just straight hands without any nonsense drama or love triangle but Skybound had to dwell on the love drama between Nya and Jay which no one wanted but thank goodness they just used Skybound to fix their mistakes and sort out the drama. Imo Skybound was just a season to fix any mistakes they made and to sort out their insufferable love drama.
I 100% support your Jay, Nya, and Cole video as well as all your opinions because I agree with everything you said and I also support your reasoning for jay and nyas half toxic relationship because I myself personally can not stand season 3 however the only 3 things I love about Rebooted and here they are 1, I love every scene with Garmadon. 2, I also love the whole Zane Julien and Pixal love triangle because at least those 2 robots actually have zero arguments nor anything bad about themselves as a whole. And 3, I love the scene where General Cryptor and Pythor P Chumsworth talk about the overlord really Pythor is absolutely hilarious.

As a former/returning fan from Ninjago, while I love the show, I would kill to see an anime adaptation of it. Could you imagine, they have everything planned out and ready since the original show happened and could remake the pilots and the first two seasons as three seasons of a high budget anime for ages 12+ . If that did well they could then move on to Rebooted stuff and onwards and improve the JayxNyaxCole thing by really diving into, I don't know, relationship troubles between Jay and Nya so when Jay learns about Cole being a perfect match we get to explore his struggle between feeling inadequate for Nya and his friendship with Cole. I'm just spitballing ideas here though
Honestly feel like they became a decent couple after skybound but SoG to present (excluding DR due to spoilerish reasons) does a great job at depicting them as a couple compared to early Jaya, one of my favorite fictional couples tbh.

I have a soft spot for Rebooted despite it being an imperfect season (mostly because of Zane and Pixal), but this was an arc I always had a gripe with. I will say that it made for the eventual great Jay and Cole moments in later seasons, but to ease my conscience, I've decided to hop on to the theory that The Overlord planted the whole thing to cause discourse amongst the ninja. Definitely a Jaya fan, but I like it best post-Skybound because it...messy at the start to say the least. Just subscribed by the way!

What’s so funny about rebooted is that near the end, they realise that they’ve done absolutely nothing with Kai and just decide to give him AN ENTIRE 20 EPISODE all to himself to help even it out. Like seriously, this was so random, I don’t think there’s ever been an episode focusing that much on one character ever since (not including only 10 minute episodes)
@@bluelemon243 It’s the episode before they go to space. Kai’s just in a car the entire time trying to see what the overlord is planing while chasing his cars, with pixel also being in commentary with him. The rest of the ninja don’t come right until the very end.

I think he didn’t have feelings for her BEFORE. After she started hitting on him, though, he started questioning it himself. Especially after she gave him that talk and they held hands. So, he didn’t like her as much as Jay did! But he spent the season questioning if he actually did like her or not.
I watched all of ninjago for the first time these past few months (I finished it about a week ago) and honestly my relationship with Jaya has fs been up and down lol. I loved them in the first two seasons, got super annoyed with the love triangle and started shipping jay and Cole instead cause they seemed more interesting (and funny) to me, and then by the end of skybound I realized I still cared abt jay and nya more (they’re my fav ninjago ship now lol)
I'm a madman (or woman actually xD) who kinda liked the drama between the three characters... but yeah I get why many people don't. Just for me, personally, the drama between characters is propably the reason I watch Ninjago in the first place. My favorite arcs are the drama between Lloyd and his dad or Harumi, the drama between best friends like Sora and Arin or between Wu and Morro, or the drama between the whole group after one of their team members "dies". I just love it when things don't go smooth and people make mistakes. Because it just feels so real to me, sure Nya and Jay make mistakes everywhere and are insufferable but they are just teenagers at this point, they are bound to fuck this up somehow. For both of them, it's their first relationship. Nya up to this point lived with her brother in the black smith shop, abandoned by their parents, and I'm pretty sure she never even had contact with boys and along comes this good looking (Jay is definitely canonically good looking, his dad was a movie star and have you seen how pretty his mom is? Also Jay's a game show host) and funny guy who shows so much interest in her and she's so here for it. But... Jay is also a very clingy and kind of annoying person. And I think that line from Nya at the beginning of season 3 "Remember what we talked about? Boundaries?" sums up what was going on between seasons 2 and 3. Jay comes from a poor family and lived in a junkyard, he probably also never had any contact with women before or has ever been close to someone like that. He doesn't give Nya any space, he doesn't respect her boundaries. Even on their first date in season one, you notice it's usually just Jay rambling on and on about himself, he just can be a little much at times. He has abandonment issues that kinda make him seem childish at times. So their relationship was kinda shaky at this point and then that match making machine tells Nya that Cole is her perfect match. You know, the calm and relaxed cool dude, the more or less "leader" of the group who was definitely the most responsible and grown up guy. Nya would like Jay to be more like Cole, more grown up and chill (and that's DEFINITLEY toxic of Nya, she shouldn't compare Jay to Cole, Nya should exept Jay how he is and exept his imperfections). And Cole... y'know, this entire arc does wonders for him, it tells us so much about who Cole is. It's obvious he doesn't really have feelings for Nya but he is just too chill, he move along with everything that is thrown his way, he probably didn't think much of this anyways. (Also, my headcanon reason why he did go along with Nya's flirting a bit was maybe to prove to himself and the others that he is straight when in reality, he isn't. At this point he's probably a bit confused about his own sexuality, thinking that maybe if he just went along with the flirting, he'll eventually develop feelings for this woman, like a "normal straight person". Of course, that's not how it works though.) So when Jay gets super angry at Cole for being Nya's "perfect match" (and zero angry at Nya for entertaining that idea), it's definitely irrational, his fears of abandonment and losing Nya just became a reality so of course he doesn't think rationally. And if Cole gets attacked, of course he fights back, all the Ninja are kinda competitive, that's in their nature as fighters. Jay's irrational hatred for Cole only grows after Zanes death when they all split up because now he was alone with his thoughts and an emotional mess). All the while Cole is just tired of fighting, like he said. Then, we get one of the best moments, something the show has been buliding up across seasons, the climactic showdown between Jay and Cole in season 4. They both wanna fight each other to finally settle this and see who's better, but on the other hand, they are both actually upset about losing each other, losing their friendship irreparably. From the moment were they both fight and destroy the sandbag with the other's picture for training and feel bad for it, to the moment Cole throws the jade blade to Jay, bascially sacrificing himself to show how much this friendship means to him, this scene is just pure perfection. "She's your's Jay, I should have bowed out long ago. Win this thing" :') Skybound has nothing to do with the love triangle anymore. That's all just Nya not understanding her new role in the ninja team because the press defines her not by who she is, but by being "the girl in the boys club", "Kai's sister", and they only care about who she's seeing and not who she is. And Nya hates that, and is so incredibly stubborn that she won't even take Jay's hand to Airjitzu in that one scene because then the media would talk and she really really doesn't wanna be tied to any boy right now. That's obviously a character flaw of her, she shouldn't let the media get to her like that, but we've known since season 5 that her stubbornness is her greatest weakness. This all clashes with Jay not at all understanding or seeing how she's feeling, which is Nya's fault for not communicating that clearly until the lighthouse scene, where she finally opens up to him and he understands. Jay has been obsessed with winning Nya back since he saw that vision of the two of them in the ice labarinth, but the timing couldn't be worse. The line "We're just having out first fight right now" triggers her in so many ways, it makes her think that not only the media but also Jay just sees her as a love interest, not as a person, plus, she hates how she can't do Airjitzu herself, how she needs help from a guy, how she isn't a full ninja yet, she just can't accept it. And if this was real life, of course Nya and Jay would probably not get together again. You know why it works here though? Because Jay and Nya lived through all of season 6 together, which was a trauma and a half, they were the last ones standing againt Nadakahn, then Nya literally dies and Jay makes a wish that comes from his heart and saves her life and now only the two of them even remember the events of skybound. This shit is so intense that of course they're bonding over it. And yeah, that doesn't happen in real life, the closest to that is maybe how close brothers in arms during war time were, because surviving hell together and depending on each other during such traumatic events bonds you for life. I see how people can come to different conclusions though. It's all up for interpretation and I just love overanalysing and thinking about why characters might act a certain way, and I take the canon for granted when I do that (excuse me for my rambling lol).
I didnt realise as kids that Cole vs Jay was about Nyah in tournaments of elements. And i also feel like the love story in Skybound was doable past episode 2. But then again i might be biased by my nostalgia
I totally agree with you. I mean, if you make Nya a ninja, the only girl on the team, and then do some shit to her. Let everyone think that every girl is like Nya in season 6. I mean she really treats Jay like shit, Jay is just in love. Nya has moved on, especially in Seabound.The whole thing with Jaya gets better with season 8. Some people think Jaya is toxic (she was) or that Nya doesn't love Jay, but I think you can see in Dragons rising that she really suffers.The ending of season 6 wasn't really sad, the whole season isn't really good.

What's funny is even as a kid, I thought to myself why would Nya like Cole? They interact, but it didn't seem like Cole had so much interest in Nya, and Jay and Nya did spend time with each other and were worried for each other. To make it worse, in the same episode where Jay and Nya were on a date, Jay was turning into a Snake and Nya revealed to the others and Jay she was the Samurai, Cole explicitly said he wish he had a sister like Nya. Meaning he only see her as a friend and nothing more.
Maybe they intended making Jay irrationally angry for comedy's sake, and the narrative does paint him being stupid! But yeah, lampshading not makes something good alone, something should get done about them.

As dumb as the start of this plot point was, all it really did was show the issues in Jaya from the start: Jay's obsession and Nya letting other things define her. And this is all stuff they sorted out during Skybound, with Jay being called out on his creepy behavior and Nya coming clean about how she keeps on these labels and outside factors define her and her relationships, when she's the one who should be choosing for herself (even though I thought of Nya as more self-assured)
So even if the catalyst for all this drama is dumb as heck, I can at least recognize that it exposed the cracks in Jay and Nya's relationship when it was at its infancy, and I can accept that they grew up after that. And honestly? Teens do dumber stuff than this, so I can tolerate it. I've seen worse IRL, trust me.

To be honest, when I was a kid I really found this arc annoying. I was actually all for the relationship between Jay and Nya, but this arc really tested my patience. It didn't help that I unlucky missed the parts of the rebooted where there was shown that Cole wasn't at fault at all for this, which made me hate him for no reason. But eventually, after fully seeing those moments in the reruns, I understood that it was the other way around. You won't believe how happy I was at the end of The Skybound to see this arc finally end on a positive note.
As a kid I was so bummed out that they included the love triangle arc but not enough General Cryptor and Pixel/Zane screentime in Rebooted and not enough screentime for the other participants in Tournament Of Elements 💀

Misako is the most under utilized character in the entire series (Pixel is a close second). She is such an interesting character and there’s so much they could do with her and the show does absolutely nothing with her

As someone who loves Jay a lot, also hated this so much just because it was really a waste of actual screen time that could’ve been on better stuff and I do love the tension between coal and Jay most of the time but they were not cooking with this. Also, I feel like Jay doesn’t really get a lot of cool stuff like new powers, he mostly has just gotten tortured, make constant jokes throughout the show, which somewhere funny but not all and make mistakes which everyone gets mad at him for then he has to make up for those mistakes, it would be cool to give him something good other than his relationship with Nya. plus in the very beginning the relationship wasn’t even that stable, almost all the other ninjas have better relationships than he does.

@@kastenedwards1217 Lloyd is always getting cool stuff and it is very important to the story which make sense, Kai doesn’t get to spend a lot of time with his love interest but their relationship was always kind of healthy plus him and his sister got to meet the parents, he also sacrificed himself recently. Coal was a ghost so he had cool ghost powers and have sacrificed herself multiple times, he has cool magma hands and even has a new power, a possible love interest and got to hear how his mother was a hero. Zane has sacrificed his self a couple times as well, he’s the most unique out of the group with the whole thing an android and he has a healthy relationship with his love interest, he got to meet his creator. Nya started out as a cool samurai then became the water ninja, she was incredibly important in stopping the ghost and she literally became a part of the entire ocean. there’s also the fact both of them are teachers and same with Lloyd, Jay on the other hand has barely anything compared to them, they constantly try to make him comedy relief so he doesn’t get as much character development as the others and almost everything I can list about him is he making a mistake and then having to fix it while everyone’s mad at him. it’s pretty often He does stupid stuff and doesn’t learn from his license even though he should, I love him a lot but if it’s not making a mistake or suffering from a mistake then there’s literally nothing else to say about him. He literally has only popped up in the newest season two or three times, so quite literally everyone except Jay has gotten an incredible amount of development or something interesting.

I love Jay and I’m not saying he doesn’t get more than most side characters, but he’s gotten way less than any of the other main cast and most of what he has is related to him making mistakes and having to fix them like I said before. He barely ever invent things throughout the entire show, because of his stupid wishing his father is a famous actor and his mother was the master of lightning by then that whole season is erased because of going back in time and none of them even remember any of that, we never hear about his parents ever again so that’s a pretty good example of something he has way less than the others. I mean he was adopted which I loved his step parents but they gave him something just like all the others then just never used it. To her defense, I believe her and Jay were taking a break from their relationship, technically they weren't together and with the whole part about the Ninja fans treating her like she wasn't a part of the team, she felt left out, so I get why she was upset, and Jay being pushy didn't help her either.

Personally I absolutely adore Skybounds ending. It’s my favorite ending to any season. Skybound is arguably the darkest season of the entire show and I love it for that. With Pixel dying and Ninjago city being destroyed I feel like there’s really no way they could’ve ended the season without erasing everything since at the end of the day, Ninjago is a kids show and status quo is God. I think the writers did a fantastic job at making the erasure of everything that happens in Skybound work really well. Nadakhan constantly twists peoples words in order to get what he wants and he easily could’ve twisted Jay‘s wish but he couldn’t because he was too busy being in excruciating pain. Jays wish “I wish you had taken my hand and nobody had found that teapot in the first place” hits so damn hard for me. Everything that happened in Skybound didn’t technically happen, but it also did at the same time and nobody remembers it except for Jay and Nya. Jay and Nya we’re in the center of Skybound so it makes sense that they would be the only ones to remember everything and they get to keep all of their character development I’m fine with the erasure of everything else. Also one of the writers said that Nadakhan remembers Skybound to so if the show ever decides to do anything with the constant teases of him returning, then boy is he going to be pissed

Bruh this happens every time somebody just mentions Skybound. People argue so much about whether it’s good or not. It’s hysterical. Skybound is fantastic imo, it definitely has problems but what it does right it does so well that I don’t even care

Never in my life did I think there would be a channel that would talk about Ninjago (i sort of watched it over the recent years), so Thumbs Up to you man.
The love triangle was shit. But Skybound was the best season. It gave Jay development. He started off unlikeable but became more. The season is great. It fixed the love the triangle. Jay was supposed to come off that way. It was to show his growth through the season. I also don’t like how it ended but the season overall was amazing.

Finally, someone brought this up again. I hated the love triangle plot with passion, even as a kid it was obvious to me that Cole had no romantic interest in Nya, the whole thing felt like the writers regretted making Jaya a thing so early on in the series, so my guesses are one, they weren't expecting the show to run for years and two, Jaya didn't have your regular lengthy love story progress, or atleast no onscreen romantic progress/development between them. So I guess the love triangle plot was kind of a restart/reboot/new beginning to their love story??
All in all, Jaya were a mess until later seasons , I guess writing love stories/couples weren't the previous writers' strongest point.

Ngl if you think about it, the love triangle kinda snowballed into a net positive for the show. The jay and cole fight in the tournament is considered one of the best fights and episode by a lot of people, and skybound would've never happened without the s3 triangle and skybound is one of the best seasons in the show.
Completely agree, but I feel like they could have builded up to it with a different plot point that the majority of the Fandom didn't hate.
This arc actually made me hate Nya so much, season 5 and 9 made her a better character and now thanks to Dragons Rising started to make her one of my favorites.

My take on the Jay, Cole, Nya, love triangle was that the writers I think were hinting or at least trying to hint at Nya finding Cole more attractive than Jay because of how more mature Cole is compared to Jay. Throughout most of the series, Cole had displayed a much more manly strongman persona with an air of confidence in himself, whereas Jay while confident in his abilities, lacked some semblance of awareness regarding certain social cues and was known for being a tad childish with his video game addiction and his obsession with those sci-fi movies involving that one man who later turned out to be his biological father. And there's also the issue regarding Nya's personality as well. Despite describing herself as a strong independent woman, like many women do IRL, Nya rather paradoxically (also like many IRL women, let's be honest) either consciously or subconsciously seems to gravitate more towards Cole, a man who seems to more closely resemble an old school macho man. Indicating that she like many women her age (presuming she's in her mid 20s at the time) she, despite publicly expressing that she's more modern with her approach to dating and romance, secretly or subconsciously she actually seems to want a more traditionally ideal partner, a variable strong man who's much more readily able to defend, stand up for, and provide for her. But as the love triangle concludes (or in other words the writers finally gave up) with the end of the Jeeb arc, she eventually chooses Jay over Cole both because Cole doesn't really show any real interest in her and because she and Jay have had much more of an emotional history with each other and thus a stronger connection.
And plus, realistically (as far as sci-fi / sci-fan stories go anyways), what woman wouldn't fall head over heels in love for you knowing that you altered TIME ITSELF to save you from dying from a poisonous accident? Unless there's some heinous plot armor or plot contriving involved, there's no reason Nya wouldn't choose Jay.

I don’t know if a writer on Ninjago said this or if a TH-camr suggested it but I heard from someone a while ago who made this suggestion that would’ve at least made this arc make sense- the Perfect Match machine was going to say Jay, but the Overlord hacked it and made it say Cole in order to drive a wedge between the ninja.
This would make so much sense and help make the Overlord a more diabolical villain twisting and manipulating the ninja’s emotions and relationships to his advantage.
What would also help is if Nya pointed out some of Cole’s best traits like his selflessness, his leadership skills and his ability to make friends. This way it would at least make sense as to why she thinks the machine might have picked him as her perfect match.
With all this, it doesn’t make the love triangle more bearable but it at least helps it makes sense.
Also I’m pretty sure the reason why Jay is only mad at Cole and not Nya in the Invitation is because he’s the world’s biggest simp towards her. And this season just proves it even more. He finds out that his friend is the perfect match for the girl of his dreams and instead of backing down or questioning anything, he just attacks Cole even though Cole doesn’t know what’s going on, which also shows Jay’s selfishness and immaturity. Basically to him, if he can’t have Nya, no one can.
Rebooted may have given us the second worst love triangle ever, but we got THE BEST ROBOT COUPLE IN THE UNIVERSE

To anyone that thinks Nadhakan is a better villain than Moro, respectfully, you are not the brightest person. Nadhakan was just an annoying character. Every time he appeared he always tries to sound so big brain which I'll give him that, he was able to outsmart a nindroid, but it was by twisting his words and finding loopholes which Zane clearly said not to do. Moro's character showed that he was just a kid and couldn't fully understand the consequences of his actions until the very end. Nadhakan could've just gotten his crew back and chilled with them but nope, he wanted to take them to Djinjago since pirates had been "forgotten". When he saw his home realm falling apart (due to the ninja destroying the preeminant/cursed realm) he blamed the ninja and wanted revenge on them while before he had no idea of ANYTHING happening cuz he was trapped in a teapot. Also, if the ninja hadn't destroyed the cursed realm then Djinjago would've been cursed by the preeminant - which mind you would've been a much worse fate - and they didn't even know that they would end up destroying 2 realms in one. Not even Wu knew and from what we're shown, Lloyd and Moro didn't even end up in Djinjago so no one knew that realm existed let alone know that the cursed realm was the sister realm of Djinjago. Sure you could also say Moro was being a brat by wanting to become the green ninja but don't forget, Kai also wanted to be the green ninja but he was lucky enough to have 3 other ninja AND sensei Wu to guide him to not become evil. Nadhakan was also just a greedy djinn who wanted infinite wishes for himself so he could destroy everything which is why he wanted to marry Delara and ended up marrying Nya when he found out Delara was dead, he just wanted ultimate power (shocker). At least in the end Moro realised his mistake and sacrificed himself and gave the realm crystal to Wu but Nadhakan was just pure evil, Moro was broken. You can't convince me that Skybound was better than Possession, also, for most of Possession it was just straight hands without any nonsense drama or love triangle but Skybound had to dwell on the love drama between Nya and Jay which no one wanted but thank goodness they just used Skybound to fix their mistakes and sort out the drama. Imo Skybound was just a season to fix any mistakes they made and to sort out their insufferable love drama.

I 100% support your Jay, Nya, and Cole video as well as all your opinions because I agree with everything you said and I also support your reasoning for jay and nyas half toxic relationship because I myself personally can not stand season 3 however the only 3 things I love about Rebooted and here they are 1, I love every scene with Garmadon. 2, I also love the whole Zane Julien and Pixal love triangle because at least those 2 robots actually have zero arguments nor anything bad about themselves as a whole. And 3, I love the scene where General Cryptor and Pythor P Chumsworth talk about the overlord really Pythor is absolutely hilarious.

As a former/returning fan from Ninjago, while I love the show, I would kill to see an anime adaptation of it. Could you imagine, they have everything planned out and ready since the original show happened and could remake the pilots and the first two seasons as three seasons of a high budget anime for ages 12+ . If that did well they could then move on to Rebooted stuff and onwards and improve the JayxNyaxCole thing by really diving into, I don't know, relationship troubles between Jay and Nya so when Jay learns about Cole being a perfect match we get to explore his struggle between feeling inadequate for Nya and his friendship with Cole. I'm just spitballing ideas here though

I have a soft spot for Rebooted despite it being an imperfect season (mostly because of Zane and Pixal), but this was an arc I always had a gripe with. I will say that it made for the eventual great Jay and Cole moments in later seasons, but to ease my conscience, I've decided to hop on to the theory that The Overlord planted the whole thing to cause discourse amongst the ninja.
Definitely a Jaya fan, but I like it best post-Skybound because it...messy at the start to say the least. Just subscribed by the way!

What’s so funny about rebooted is that near the end, they realise that they’ve done absolutely nothing with Kai and just decide to give him AN ENTIRE 20 EPISODE all to himself to help even it out. Like seriously, this was so random, I don’t think there’s ever been an episode focusing that much on one character ever since (not including only 10 minute episodes)

I think he didn’t have feelings for her BEFORE. After she started hitting on him, though, he started questioning it himself. Especially after she gave him that talk and they held hands. So, he didn’t like her as much as Jay did! But he spent the season questioning if he actually did like her or not.
Best series EVER literally my whole childhood
I watched all of ninjago for the first time these past few months (I finished it about a week ago) and honestly my relationship with Jaya has fs been up and down lol. I loved them in the first two seasons, got super annoyed with the love triangle and started shipping jay and Cole instead cause they seemed more interesting (and funny) to me, and then by the end of skybound I realized I still cared abt jay and nya more (they’re my fav ninjago ship now lol)

I'm a madman (or woman actually xD) who kinda liked the drama between the three characters... but yeah I get why many people don't.
Just for me, personally, the drama between characters is propably the reason I watch Ninjago in the first place. My favorite arcs are the drama between Lloyd and his dad or Harumi, the drama between best friends like Sora and Arin or between Wu and Morro, or the drama between the whole group after one of their team members "dies".
I just love it when things don't go smooth and people make mistakes.
Because it just feels so real to me, sure Nya and Jay make mistakes everywhere and are insufferable but they are just teenagers at this point, they are bound to fuck this up somehow. For both of them, it's their first relationship. Nya up to this point lived with her brother in the black smith shop, abandoned by their parents, and I'm pretty sure she never even had contact with boys and along comes this good looking (Jay is definitely canonically good looking, his dad was a movie star and have you seen how pretty his mom is? Also Jay's a game show host) and funny guy who shows so much interest in her and she's so here for it.
But... Jay is also a very clingy and kind of annoying person. And I think that line from Nya at the beginning of season 3 "Remember what we talked about? Boundaries?" sums up what was going on between seasons 2 and 3.
Jay comes from a poor family and lived in a junkyard, he probably also never had any contact with women before or has ever been close to someone like that. He doesn't give Nya any space, he doesn't respect her boundaries. Even on their first date in season one, you notice it's usually just Jay rambling on and on about himself, he just can be a little much at times. He has abandonment issues that kinda make him seem childish at times.
So their relationship was kinda shaky at this point and then that match making machine tells Nya that Cole is her perfect match.
You know, the calm and relaxed cool dude, the more or less "leader" of the group who was definitely the most responsible and grown up guy. Nya would like Jay to be more like Cole, more grown up and chill (and that's DEFINITLEY toxic of Nya, she shouldn't compare Jay to Cole, Nya should exept Jay how he is and exept his imperfections).
And Cole... y'know, this entire arc does wonders for him, it tells us so much about who Cole is. It's obvious he doesn't really have feelings for Nya but he is just too chill, he move along with everything that is thrown his way, he probably didn't think much of this anyways.
(Also, my headcanon reason why he did go along with Nya's flirting a bit was maybe to prove to himself and the others that he is straight when in reality, he isn't. At this point he's probably a bit confused about his own sexuality, thinking that maybe if he just went along with the flirting, he'll eventually develop feelings for this woman, like a "normal straight person". Of course, that's not how it works though.)
So when Jay gets super angry at Cole for being Nya's "perfect match" (and zero angry at Nya for entertaining that idea), it's definitely irrational, his fears of abandonment and losing Nya just became a reality so of course he doesn't think rationally.
And if Cole gets attacked, of course he fights back, all the Ninja are kinda competitive, that's in their nature as fighters.
Jay's irrational hatred for Cole only grows after Zanes death when they all split up because now he was alone with his thoughts and an emotional mess).
All the while Cole is just tired of fighting, like he said.
Then, we get one of the best moments, something the show has been buliding up across seasons, the climactic showdown between Jay and Cole in season 4. They both wanna fight each other to finally settle this and see who's better, but on the other hand, they are both actually upset about losing each other, losing their friendship irreparably.
From the moment were they both fight and destroy the sandbag with the other's picture for training and feel bad for it, to the moment Cole throws the jade blade to Jay, bascially sacrificing himself to show how much this friendship means to him, this scene is just pure perfection.
"She's your's Jay, I should have bowed out long ago. Win this thing" :')
Skybound has nothing to do with the love triangle anymore. That's all just Nya not understanding her new role in the ninja team because the press defines her not by who she is, but by being "the girl in the boys club", "Kai's sister", and they only care about who she's seeing and not who she is. And Nya hates that, and is so incredibly stubborn that she won't even take Jay's hand to Airjitzu in that one scene because then the media would talk and she really really doesn't wanna be tied to any boy right now.
That's obviously a character flaw of her, she shouldn't let the media get to her like that, but we've known since season 5 that her stubbornness is her greatest weakness.
This all clashes with Jay not at all understanding or seeing how she's feeling, which is Nya's fault for not communicating that clearly until the lighthouse scene, where she finally opens up to him and he understands. Jay has been obsessed with winning Nya back since he saw that vision of the two of them in the ice labarinth, but the timing couldn't be worse. The line "We're just having out first fight right now" triggers her in so many ways, it makes her think that not only the media but also Jay just sees her as a love interest, not as a person, plus, she hates how she can't do Airjitzu herself, how she needs help from a guy, how she isn't a full ninja yet, she just can't accept it.
And if this was real life, of course Nya and Jay would probably not get together again.
You know why it works here though? Because Jay and Nya lived through all of season 6 together, which was a trauma and a half, they were the last ones standing againt Nadakahn, then Nya literally dies and Jay makes a wish that comes from his heart and saves her life and now only the two of them even remember the events of skybound. This shit is so intense that of course they're bonding over it. And yeah, that doesn't happen in real life, the closest to that is maybe how close brothers in arms during war time were, because surviving hell together and depending on each other during such traumatic events bonds you for life.
I see how people can come to different conclusions though.
It's all up for interpretation and I just love overanalysing and thinking about why characters might act a certain way, and I take the canon for granted when I do that (excuse me for my rambling lol).

I mean she really treats Jay like shit, Jay is just in love. Nya has moved on, especially in Seabound.The whole thing with Jaya gets better with season 8. Some people think Jaya is toxic (she was) or that Nya doesn't love Jay, but I think you can see in Dragons rising that she really suffers.The ending of season 6 wasn't really sad, the whole season isn't really good.

Also Cole is more like a friendly giant as he’s friendly when he needed to be and great with kids. Unlike Jay who I think is a bit of a narcissist. And Cole would probably treat Nia more of a person and a partner than Jay who’d probably just treat her as a lover and a thing. I could be wrong but that’s what I take it.
