      Believe me when I say TH-cam compression takes the bite out of the ZU's and does make the Tekton's sound a little shaved off. Not the case in person.

    On a whim I bought a used pair of the Omen DW's, after auditioning them, and they sounded fantastic. I got them home and they sounded terrible on my system. On another whim, I saw a YT video regarding Zu's and vintage Sansui receivers... I bought two, both locally and in working order, a 1969 Sansui 2000 and a 1970 Sansui 4000. The 2000 blew me away, the 4000 was over the top. I then bought a new pair of the DW6's with the Supreme upgrade. I am now good. These vintage Sansui pieces do what all of the modern gear I have owned could not do, put a smile on my face and let me enjoy the music.

    Thank you, 2CL! Fabulous music demo. I loved the music.
    I can't put my finger on it, but I'm leaning toward the Tekton Uruz. The bass and the drums seemed to have more resonance and the mids and highs were softer through the Tekton Uruz, which was very pleasing to my ear. The sounds coming out of the Zu Dirty Weekend MKII were much sharper, which I found to be a little more than a little irritating to my ear.
    I was dead set on getting the Zu Dirty Weekend 6 until I heard this comparison as well as watching your previous videos on Zu vs. Tekton. Now, I'm leaning more toward the Tekton, specifically, the Pendragon, but still undecided.
    Had to replace my Adcom amp and preamp, which I loved, a Cambridge Audio AZUR 851 paired with a Rotel Amp, Zlipsch Chorus II speakers, and a set of Denon speakers, which were all lost in Hurricane Ian storm surge flooding. Thinking about replacing all of those with SCHIIT Audio's Schiit stack of Vidar 2 (2 of them), Bifrost, Freya+, and Lokius.
    Our room is open, about 25' x 25', 12' ceiling, 3 walls are concrete block, 1 wall is glass sliders, and the flooring is ceramic tile on a concrete slab. We listen to mostly jazz instrumentals and vocals, big band instrumentals and vocals, and funk, such as Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, etc.
    Thanks again for your detailed and honest reviews.

    • @2ChannelListening
      @2ChannelListening  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really appreciate all of your comments. You did do a good job of hearing both speakers as their are, pretty interesting how some hear the opposite.
      I would absolutely try to listen to a pair of Pendragons before committing, I can tell you those tweeters and crossover scheme is not the same as the ZU and Tekton Lore/Pendragon scheme. I'm not sure what your budget is, but you may want to look at ZU Omen Def MKII's. Excellent with Jazz and female vocals, very dynamic. Plus, the larger Omen Def will fill that larger room of your like a panel speaker. They are even more efficient and would love warm, low watt Class A amps as you described. I would also say, if it tickles you, don't overlook Klipsch La Scala - with the genre you like, I think you would be pretty amazed how La Scala sound with tube and Class A amps. Some of the best percussion notes I've heard.
      Very sorry to hear about your losses in the hurricane. I cannot imagine! Good on you for rebuilding and getting back to it. Please feel free to check in with me and let me know what you end up with! Take care.

    The Uruz really flesh out the sound of the bass. It’s deep and with authority. To be heard. The Zu’s are brighter to take you away from the inability to touch depth but provide a more …. Mid range oriented experience.

    Pair of DW MK II in Teal headed this way. I saw them on Zu's site in their ready to ship section. Cost a mint to ship them to Canada. Running this demo through a pair of LRS, but likely ditching them because amplifier stability is difficult at 500hz 3ohms. I expect the LRS would be great should I 2nd mortgage the requisite amplifiers to drive them. Errr... no.
    I already built an Aleph J clone; reading anecdotes on diyaudio tells me it's going to be a great pairing with the Zu and my REL sub. Fingers crossed.

    Thank you for the demo!
    I dunno my Klipsch speakers are reproducing this demo as well as my Sennheiser hd600 were. I think the speakers need to be tested with more energetic music to really get a feel for how well they perform.
    The zu sound brighter to me and I find myself having to turn the volume down more often (actually with the Sennheiser which usually never hurt my ears) because it's irritating my ears. The tekton irritated my ears when the guitar belts causing me to go 😣 but the zu are negatively affecting my ears more in the snare strikes and they don't sound as clean or neutral. I can feel my ears almost distorting or hurting by all the mid range vibration. My ears are very sensitive.
    There's times when I prefer either one but when there's a lot of energy happening I feel the Uruz contains itself better with it's more mellow high end. The Uruz almost sounds a little held back or veiled but maybe my ears are just used to coloration in the upper mids and highs. I'd get the Uruz. I'd guess the zu has a peak between 2.5k and 5k or it may be 1.6k-3k and another one higher like around 8k or 10k that's really bugging me out and making the sound not neutral to unpleasant at times.

    • @2ChannelListening
      @2ChannelListening  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To me, you picked up on the heart of what its like sitting in front of them. The Uruz have a nicer, relaxed, yet pleasantly detailed presentation. The ZU's can ring a bit when not played with the best recordings. The ribbon tweeter in the Uruz is a much better unit than the compression Eminence 1001.

    The way this video is formatted makes it hard for me to get a real grasp on the differences I’m hearing.
    A/B’ing is much more effective if you take 10 or 15 seconds of the same portion of the song and then play those samples back to back from one speaker to the other.
    That being said I don’t hear enough of a difference to justify spending more on the Zu. I think the Zu is the more attractive speaker aesthetically speaking as I’m not a fan of ports on the front of speakers but at the end of the day it all comes down to what you care about more and what are you willing to spend?

  • @majsterV

    If im choosing one it would be tektons. I simply can stand zingy sound of zu's, which many with hear damage(this days most of population after 40'-50') describing as detailed or revealing upper range. I think blend between two would be about right.
    Oh i forgot: Great sound samples.

      @@2ChannelListening Compliment well deserved. You put together fantastic evaluation setup with room acoustics in mind, where we can clearly hear character of tested speakers👍. And if you have plans to make more demo comparisons, it would be welcomed if you stick with the same sound samples and same setup for easier evaluation. Wish you all the best.

    Uruz went deeper and had a more natural, live sound. The Zu had some clarity in the upper end, but it didn't sound realistic at all and could not go as deep. A little harsh in fact. Urus.....was....smooth....er.

    • @2ChannelListening

      GG, you certainly captured most of what I heard. The ZU does have near similar bass output in room, the difference is the mic picks up the front firing ports of the Uruz, where the ZU's bottom finger ports are better distributed and less directional. Thanks for watching.

    Tektons are giving a soundstage depth that the Zu’s cannot achieve as they seem all forward all the time.

    • @2ChannelListening
      @2ChannelListening  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are pretty equal in sound staging width, but yes, as you pointed out, the more forward character of the ZU makes it harder to notice that. Thanks for watching.

    I prefer the Tektons by a wide margin. The Tektons are truer to the source, whereas the Zus project their own personality onto the music and the recording. It is true that some may prefer the Zus' coloration but they don't sound natural or realistic to me. The Zus are also very fatiguing after a short time.

    • @2ChannelListening
      @2ChannelListening  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Always depends on the listener. I feel the same way about B&W and Von Schweikert. I can listen to ZU's most of the day, the others I'm done after a few songs. We have interesting reactions and preferences to sound reproduction, my wife reminds me of this fact daily! lol.

    • @michaelwright1602

      I have two sets of Zu's in the house, they are very lively in the way they present. I know with certain DAC's they can sound terrible, veiled or just downright fatiguing. I use vintage Sansui gear with mine, and everyone that has heard them have remarked at how lifelike they sound in the room. The soundstage is huge with very well defined bass, especially when playing vinyl, the speakers disappear, but you can still pick out the instruments, something the Sansui does extremely well. The Sansui units are both very airy and tube like in the midrange, I guess you can call that coloration, but it sounds damn good. The treble or top end, just sweet and smooth to my ear, no fatigue here. Just something about that vintage gear that this new modern gear cannot do, at least none of the equipment I have owned previously.

      sorry, did not mean to come across negative-- , agree that digital has come a long way the last 5 years,--only a handful of our 15k++ LP's make a pop or click, we use a nitty gritty Pro since 1986 and the newer Degritter-- we have about 50-60 cd's that sound very good, but we still beleive analog is the best medium-- we like your channel very much, what microphone are you using ??@@2ChannelListening

    • @2ChannelListening

      @@marantz7783 No worries at all, I didn't take your comment in the negative, I get that remark often enough from the dyed in the wool analogphiles. I lack the patience and time to devote to setting up a clean vinyl rig, moreover, since I have yet to hear a crackle free rig from someone else, I am highly skeptical of the benefits.
      The recording mic is a ZOOM H1N unit. Awesome little stereo mic, if a little fussy. Take care.
