Hey DJ! It's me Kurt....from Voctave! THANK YOU for this awesome reaction video. I appreciate not only the moments where you intelligently break down what's going on musically, but I also love the moments where you geek out over the arrangement and the vocals. We are NOT multimillionaires unfortunately, so please feel free to start that petition! We would LOVE to provide the soundtrack for a Disney film! Thanks again! Keep up the entertaining videos! (And PLEASE, by all means, react to more VOCTAVE. :0)
@Kvon13 , Kurt, please tell the rest of your group that you are all so incredibly talented and I appreciate every single one of you. Accurate... To really see what she can do, you have to watch the Disney Love Medley, where her high notes (hit repeatedly in the song), keep making Kirsten and Jeremy almost laugh (if you watch the making of, they actually lose it several times when she hits that crazy high note).
@@chadmcdaniel9023 I'm a second soprano, but she's like a full on first soprano, but more like a .5 soprano because she's just that much higher than the average soprano.
I'm obsessed with reaction videos of Voctave. They all live here in Orlando. The leader and arranger is Jamie Ray. He formed the group. As someone mentioned, most of them have been a part of the Voices of Liberty at Disney. The group actually got its name from Jeremy Michael Lewis, who was featured on the Voctave Disney Love Medley with his ex girlfriend, Kirstin Maldonado from Pentatonix. I know that one has been suggested. You must resist binging them without reacting. I really enjoyed your reactions. So much, I joined your channel. Now go down that Voctave rabbit Hole!

@@Seriphina Mary did you know Mark holds a pretty long one. E.J.'s is more impressive though because he goes up at the end though so if I had to choose the more difficult one it would be E.J.
You need to fall down the Voctave rabbit hole! My favorites from them are : "Mary Did You Know" with Mark Lowery (the song's writer) and "Come All Ye Faithful".
This is such a different version of acapella and I always love it. It takes me a moment to remember that they do not have a beatboxer, because I love beatboxing in the other groups adding so much to their arrangements and yet I never even miss it with Voctave. Have you reacted to their "Disney Love Medley" with Kirsten Maldonado or their rendition of the "Great Movie Medley?" Both are noteworthy. I'd also second the suggestion below for "Disney Showstoppers" where the men get a chance to shine.
Voctave has a way of immersing you in their magic. Every reactor I've watched gets sucked in and it's just incredible, I cry so much when watching them sing. They sound like literal angels on Earth. ♥ Great reaction btw.
If there were any justice in this world, they'd all be multi-millionaires. They are simply the best a capella group on the planet. Each of the eleven of them is a genius and Jamey (the arranger) is a double genius.
Filipina legend, Lea Salonga, sang for Fa Mulan to compliment the badash Ming Na-Wen's voice acting in the film. The single, "Reflection", was pre-released as part of the promotion, using an (at the time) unknown vocalist by the name of Christina Aguilera. At 17, this was her debut release, and the song was a perfect forecast gor her future success as it wasn’t written by her or for her, features a strong emotional lyric that she didn’t relate to, and includes a perfectly average note for a mezzo-soprano that she was able to make seem harder than it was.
Trust me, they see him, it may not look like it, but they see him, and they are making adjustments to his conducting. It's a thing choir people get really good at, reading your music, paying attention to your breathing, and your vocal tone, pitch, volume, watching your conductor without losing your place in your music, and more.
You have now been exposed to to best harmonies in a Capella and the most amazing soprano voice I’ve ever heard. How she can hit those high notes without sounding shrill is beyond my comprehension. Great reaction, I hope you will continue to follow and react to them.
Disney NEED to hire Lin-Manuel Miranda to write the music for (another) movie, hire Jamey Ray to write the arrangement of the songs, and all the members of Voctave to perform the songs... THAT would be the best music in Disney history :-)
Hey DJ, thank you for pulling this one apart. Of course, it was as masterful as the performance itself. Let me offer you a little insight. Many of these folks work at Disney in Orlando. Quite a few are involved with the Voices of Liberty in Epcot. The conductor was/is involved with the barbershop quartet on Main Street in Magic Kingdom. EJ Cardona was just involved in a collab with Voice Play that you reacted to, "Go the Distance." As stated below, Jamie Ray is the founder, and is incredibly gifted himself. Each and every one of them have been involved with or are currently involved with mainstream artists on the radio. Voctave is the cream of the crop for sure. As another stated, I would love for you to go down the Voctave rabbit hole in reactions, but I know you have to keep a variety of things out there. Will enjoy whatever you put out and break down. Good to see you my friend. Be well.
Great reaction! I absolutely cannot wait to see your reactions to Voctave's arrangements of "Mary, Did You Know" (superior volume and breath control), "O Come All Ye Faithful" (EJ Cardona's blistering tenor lead), and for another studio cut "Disney Showstoppers Medley" (because the gents need a minute to shine, too!) Honestly, there's nothing in their releases - either here or on their albums - that I wouldn't recommend... I definitely put "Feed The Birds" from their "Broadway & Main Street" album on repeat a couple times!
Voctave is the purest of the pure in vocal quality. BTW, David Phelps is another amazing singer, a high tenor who makes it look effortless. He sang with Voctave one: Being Alive. Also, just to let you know, he just put out a cover of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" that is incredible.
For some reason, the sound of Voctave is pitched one half note down in your video. It changes the timbre of their voices quite a bit. I noticed it right away, but I was not entirely sure, so I played the original video for a bit, and then the reaction video for a bit, and indeed, there was a half note drop.
A true mark of someone who has listened to Voctave repeatedly. I noticed also and did the exact same thing. I assume it is done to either make the video fit a specific length or to prevent copyright detection (Voctave usually is fully supportive of these reaction videos though).
They almost all work at Disney as singers in the themepark. I know one of the singers. And if you didn’t notice, they went from high voice down to low voice. So beautiful.
I can’t remember if you have already, so if you have, my apologies. But if you haven’t already seen Voctave’s performance of Mary Did You Know, featuring Mark Lowry, you simply cannot wait until Christmas to do so. It’s literally the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard (and I’m old - I’ve heard a lot - lol).
‘Colors of the Wind’ is the first song I ever sang in an actual chorus and performed in front of an audience in 3rd-grade chorus. That was when a truly fell in love with music. ♥️ It is my absolute favorite Disney song by far. 😍
In addition to being connected to Disney, several of the members are big in the barbershop world. Tony DeRosa, the guy who was conducting, has won gold medals as both a quartet member and a chorus director, and the girl who sang Mulan is a Sweet Adeline quartet gold medalist. Also, I know Kate blows everyone away with the high notes, but please don't miss the insane lows those basses are hitting!
Just a note, most of these people who sing in Voctave are singers in the Voices of Liberty which is a Disney Production Group. Also please note that the female voices in order were Kate Lott - High Soprano, Singing Snow White, then Tiffany Coburn - Sleeping Beauty, then Sarah Whitmoore - the Little Mermaid, then Ashley Espinoza - Mulan and finally Chrystal Johnson who does - Pocahontas. The arranger for the group is Jamey Ray who is the gentleman 2nd from the left. He does all the arrangements for the group and writes specfically each part for that individual persons voice. This group is PHENOMENAL. I love these guys and gals.
Man. You have the best a cappella reactions I have found. I’ve listened to Voctave from the start and I’ve wanted people to actually notice their insane talent. Jamey Ray actually arranges the songs to fit perfectly for each particular person’s voice. He does it intentionally. I’ve never heard of someone arranging like that. He’s utterly brilliant. Look him up.
@@TempleMusicAcademy That was such a sweet response. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Ya never know if the comment gets read. But man. I’m a vocalist and teacher and I assure you that your ear is picking up on things that most people just don’t catch. You appreciated things that totally geek me out! Two songs I think you’d totally jam out on are “The Great Movie Medley” and “The Prince of Egypt Medley.” You’re in for one fantastic ride! Living and loving always🎶💙
Love Voctave! So many good choices to check out further. Showstoppers Medley, Movie Medley, Love Medley, endless Christmas songs, take your pick. Thanks for the reaction, hope to see more! 👍
Love your reactions. I'm a trained musician, church choir conductor, and love watching others react to some of the stuff I love, but even more for reactors reacting to stuff that I know is so hard to make it sound and feel as seamless as some of these groups do. And Voctave is one of the absolute best. Please pin them for Christmas season (if you wait until then), especially with the "Marry did you know?" arrangement, featuring the lyrics writer himself, a good baritone Mark Lawry leading them. P.S. I have a great ONKYO A/V receiver, that is capable of sounding as good as my best headphones, but I did try them on, and while on the main speakers I didn't picked it up, in the headphones I could hear the (I suppose American) 60Hz HUM from your audio equipment. For best listening enjoyment, work with your new hired crew and find a way to eliminate it and make this a better listen (DI-box / EQ / electrical connections). Best of luck and see you next time I look for your reactions.
"Original Disney movies from the 60's and 70's." A bit older than that: Some Day My Prince Will Come - Snow White 1938 Once Upon a Dream - Sleeping Beauty 1959 Part of Your World - Little Mermaid 1989 Reflection - Mulan 1998 Colors of the Wind - Pocahontas 1995 Upon reflection, we missed the 60's and 70's completely. Of course, I get what you mean there.
You are 100% correct - this is much better than the original(s). Voctave (and Voiceplay) should be hired by Disney. Paying wealthy pop stars when Orlando has such a deep pool of talent (that they willfully ignore) is obscene.
Same here man. Just discovered Voctave a few weeks ago. This Disney Princess Medley is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I cried the first few times I heard it. Kate gets me every time with those high notes. You should also check out their version of Someday. That's my second favorite song by them.
The only word I can think of for this arrangement is "perfection". And Kate is just re-dam-diculous, living in the rafters like she does. The Disney love story medley is excellent and features Kirstin from Pentatonix and her boyfriend (fiance?) at the time.
Thank you for this great reaction. Found you by chance.....already subscribed and cannot wait to watch more. I was fortunate to work at Disney World for many years as a singer/actor. Several of these folks are friends of mine and they have formed an AMAZING group. You clearly try to educate while you react and that is MUCH appreciated. Cynthia Erivo will be singing When You Wish Upon A Star in the upcoming live action Pinnochio.
Thank you, DJ, for an excellent and informative reaction. Your insights are very much appreciated. It's amazing to see the reactions of people, even musicians such as yourself, the first time they hear Voctave. It's such a unique a cappella group. With their size, 11 members, they can fully cover both the treble and bass clefs, and their arranger Jamie Ray (the guy standing next to the fellow directing in this video) takes full advantage of that fact. Jamie is the genius responsible for ALL of Voctave's arrangements. In an interview, he said that he does not arrange generically for tenors, baritones, basses, sopranos and altos. Instead, he arranges for each individual member in the ensemble, sometimes employing as much as 7, 8, and 9-part harmony. Sorry to be so long winded. In any event, please continue with more Voctave reactions, as you are able. I would recommend (in no particular order) Mary, Did You Know (featuring Mark Lowry, the original lyricist), Disney Showstoppers (which features several of Voctave's male voices), This is My Wish/Let There Be Peace on Earth, The Disney Love Medley (featuring Kirsten Maldonado of Pentatonix), Impossible Dream, and any of their Christmas offerings. And that really only scratches the surface. Onward into the void!!!

My hands-down favorite from their COVID-time recordings was ‘Remember Me’ from the movie ‘Coco’ with members of Epcot’s Mariachi Cobre. Phenomenal!! Released on Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) 2020. Make me tear up, it’s so beautiful. (Especially if you’re familiar with the film.)

Be well.
wow! what an incredibly talented chamber choir. From bottom to top these octaves have my vote!
This is amazing, how is there so much talent in 1 video?
Yes..... David Phelps!!!!!
@@AFatherOf2 I don't listen to music a whole lot, but Voctave I approve of. Strongly.
Voctave is my favorite group! I agree, Disney Showstopper Medley!!
‘Colors of the Wind’ is the first song I ever sang in an actual chorus and performed in front of an audience in 3rd-grade chorus. That was when a truly fell in love with music. ♥️ It is my absolute favorite Disney song by far. 😍
Kate from Voctage is amazing
Members have done Disney work at various times including live performances under the Disney organization.
When I ( was a singer) listen to this it fills my whole self up and i explode with tears.....This is so beautiful i can't take it all in.
🎶💥❤️💥🎶🎧 amazing ! 👋
"I need a cigarette"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Check this video about Kate Lott's (Voctave sopran) vocal range: th-cam.com/video/XKcOH5F_8H0/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for such kind words. You’ve brightened my day more than I can express ❤️
I would LOVE to see you react to more of Voctave's stuff. They are INSANE!!!
Love Voctave! So many good choices to check out further. Showstoppers Medley, Movie Medley, Love Medley, endless Christmas songs, take your pick. Thanks for the reaction, hope to see more! 👍
I love their Fly Medley
LMAO. Totally the Mario water level.
Lea Salonga was the original Disney Mulan singer (as well as Jasmine from Aladdin)
Another excellent singer, but I prefer the lady in Voctave's version better. I don't know what her name is but it was beautiful
"Original Disney movies from the 60's and 70's." A bit older than that:
Some Day My Prince Will Come - Snow White 1938
Once Upon a Dream - Sleeping Beauty 1959
Part of Your World - Little Mermaid 1989
Reflection - Mulan 1998
Colors of the Wind - Pocahontas 1995
Upon reflection, we missed the 60's and 70's completely. Of course, I get what you mean there.
Have to say, your commentary and reaction were also "ridiculously amazing"! First time watching and subscribing now. Thanks.
What a nice thing to say. Thank you 😊
You are 100% correct - this is much better than the original(s).
DJ, Voctave is really perfection.
I absolutely adore this medley. Thank you so much for your reaction and review!
We all would LOVE to watch your reaction and input for Voctave's Great Movie medley... Will move you to your core.....
You should definitively check out their Disney Love Medley, my personal fave of their works
The only word I can think of for this arrangement is "perfection".
And Kate is just re-dam-diculous, living in the rafters like she does.
The Disney love story medley is excellent and features Kirstin from Pentatonix and her boyfriend (fiance?) at the time.
loved the video dude!!! hope the sound's a little louder tho, barely can hear the music! Thank you
Thank you for this great reaction.
0:43 “...I have a very resounding knowledge of Disney Princess parts”
Me after accidentally falling down the wrong rabbit hole on phub
Yes!!! THANK YOU! 100% agree just get them to sing, just stop with people who can’t sing
Their Prince of Egypt medley is freaking amazing
lea solanga did both mulan's singing voice as well as princess jasmine's in aladdin. she also played eponine in les miserables when she was young then also played fantine when she was older. i saw as both....amazing!!!
You'll be happy to know that Jamey Ray ( second guys by the left, the arranger of all the Voctave songs) is a music teacher!
Great reaction, that one's pretty amazing! I suggest you listen to their Price Of Egypt Medley, in my opinion it has one of their most impressive displays of harmony. You'll be blown away :)
Great Reaction! I hope you'll do more reactions to Voctave video's. They really are amazing!
Voctave does not have any bad songs, no matter what you choose please believe I will be watching and I hope you will be reacting to many, many more Voctave songs! It may not be the most requested but my personal favorite by them is the Christmas Waltz Medley/Once Upon a December that they do. It's breathtakingly incredible, everything they touch turns to gold! Thanks for an amazing reaction, I have subbed because of Voctave, please keep em coming!!
They are the gold standard in a cappella, no doubt. Now that you went into the rabbit hole, react to their, arguably, best song "Prince of Egypt Medley" . Go get your mind blown!!!!
Great reaction as usual DJ!
