I look forward to that video. I would consider cannibalising an SSK to build a Pepsi GMT in a Willard or Turtle OEM case but not with the SSK dial and I doubt any 4R/6R date only Seiko OEM dial would fit the 4R34 because I suspect the dial hole for the hands needs to be larger to fit this movement.
I completely understand your feelings about this watch. I received my beautiful Orange SSK005 a couple weeks ago and I could not be happier. The wait was horrible. The day it came I literally ran to the post office and ran home. With shaking hands I opened, examined, and sized the stunning jubilee bracelet. It has found a home on my wrist and it will be a long time before it has found its match. Love your vids! Thank you for inspiration and knowledge!

Picked a blue one up this morning.I've got skinny wrists but it fits just fine and looks awesome. I, too, was anxious to see a GMT at this price point.Very nice addition to the collection.
lol thats the only reason why i prob wont get one, stupidly skinny wrists dont work well with watches
@@okay3944 Same here man, feels bad. I can push a watch up to barely 40mm in dial before it looks like I'm wearing Big Ben on my wrist. 36mm to 38mm is the sweet spot for me, so I have a Timex Reissue GMT 38mm Quartz that came out a couple months ago instead.

When I first saw it, I was like “ewww, wtf?” But now it’s growing on me and might be the one I end up getting.
I've already seen someone take about the 4r34 and upgrade a 6r35 to have a gmt function. looks awesome (similar to how you can add a day wheel to an NE15)

I just ordered an SSK001 yesterday and plan to mod it to a Rolex Explorer II GMT with white dial... I hope I can get it done...
Ugh, man they’re killer. Good call on the Batman but they’re all beautiful. The bezel is interesting, no click friction only… I guess i’ll have to buy so I can get to the bottom of this.

Picking up my SSK001 from Derek at Carat & Co. tomorrow. He’s the man and the store itself is my favorite authorized dealer in the NYC area. I bought my SPB143 from them last year and they were great. Huge selection of brands like Omega, Cartier, and Zenith to browse through as well. Awesome work with this video. Love the intro shot with the three models all side by side. So clean

Ehm ok, the Explorer Hommage from Pagani Design is also a mechanical GMT and only costs 130$.
No hate towards the Seiko but it sounded like there are no cheaper gmts than that. And if you dont like hommages im sure the movement used in the PD is also in some other watch

I just picked up the blue version, too! The deeper I get into watches I always seem to come back to Seiko. The brand really makes me question why I spend more on other watches.

i love seiko. i want to get one of their higher end models but i use and abuse my skx011j and it adds character and still performs. i bought it new old stock from japan for 200 bucks and the serial numbers matched up when i received it. it only loses three minutes a day almost seven years on. my gshocks busted after a years use in the trades but i didnt care cause you can buy those for 50 bucks at walmart

Very curious about the ability of putting an SKX/5KX 60-minute bezel on it. That would make it the ultimate watch!
Really depends on whether you can get it to click.
it would have been better if they had kept the 60 minute timing bezel instead of the GMT one. Much more useful for general use. it is what is, I guess.

I have an Skx, a Sprd and now waiting for the Ssk model and my question is. Do the bracelets or straps interchange?
With the bezel, can you mod and apply a bezel spring so it will click? In other words- does the bezel have clicking underneath it?
Are srpd055 and ssk001 has the same material and movement? Which one will you choose between 2 of thems?
Do you think the bracelet could be changed to a rubber strap?

At this rate we're going to see a Seiko Minute-Repeater for under a grand ! Jokes aside though, it's refreshing to see Seiko incorporate a variation of a high horology complication to a 500 dollar watch. It'll allow new enthusiasts and budget collectors to get their hands on a proper timepiece with a working complication without breaking the bank.

Great reporting as always - so thumbs up from me. Still, a gmt why? Who in the age of mobile phones (or before for that matter?) needs a gmt. Second - oh no! The dreaded clyclops - the wart - the tumor. NOOOooooo!!!!
I need to spend an extra $300.00 on my Seiko 5, even if I don’t use a GMT, or even understand why it’s there or how it works. It’s my right to do this as a rich idiot.
1) who uses a gmt in the “age of mobile phones?” I could ask…who uses a watch in the age of mobile phones? I actually do use a GMT watch when I travel overseas. I’m not carrying my $1600 iphone around for people to steal. And using my phone in another country…in some countries you need to activate a service or get a SIM card. Who am I calling there? So I’m gonna either leave the phone at home or in the hotel safe. 2) I agree with you…the cyclops is ugly. But, unfortunately I (and many others) need it. I’ve got other Seiko watches where I can’t see the date without whipping out the reading glasses.

Yes, but... You need to swap case to slx007 which is widely available from aftermarket vendors. You will need to get another stem too.

At that price I will simply buy the movement, update the dial, and add a sapphire crystal all for much cheaper.

Awesome movement but the - apart from their SKX heritage - rather generic and low-spec watches are not for me. I even think they look a bit cheap - which they are being Seiko Fives. Looking forward to microbrands' offers while cherishing my DressKX.

I like Seiko watches however I think there prices are over the top for what you get' I would rather get a San Martin or a steeldive with either sw200 Swiss made movement or a NH35a Japanese movement just the same as Seiko use but with sapphire class and ceramic bezel fitted as standard for a fraction of the price.✌️🧐🇬🇧🇺🇦

It was a big mistake for Seiko not use Sapphire crystal. And for the bezel not to click is upsetting.
if you can replace the hours and the hands with tritium gas capsules then i would most certainly be interested in comissioning a mod

Seiko shouldn’t hate you, they should be copying some of your innovative builds, like your MM300 mod with the extra lumed bezel and crown. It’s better than Seiko’s current MM300 and something they could easily adopt.

I purchased the black/grey one last week. Really disappointed about the black/grey color 'washout' on the bezel. As you say, it's extreemly difficult to see the grey in certain lights.

Seiko 5 costs about $200.00. This costs almost $500.00. For an extra hand. That almost nobody really needs. Maybe I’m missing something, but is it worth shelling out an extra $300.00 for this? I guess if money doesn’t mean anything to you. If you want a watch with a useless, not “true” GMT, why not just buy a Pagani? They’re only $87.00 on Amazon now.

What does hacking mean?
When you pull the crown out to adjust the hands, the second hand stops. It was designed to more accurately set the time and synchronize with others.
