Pea puffers were found to be omnivorous. In the wild they eat a family of plant from their environment. Having those plants around expends their lifespan.
Mine eat spirulina powder. I just sprinkle it on the surface of the water and turn off the flow. The air creates just enough of a surface wobble that it plumes at the surface and they happily eat it from just below the surface.
I bought pufferfish 2days ago without knowing anything about it. I tried giving it pellet, fish flesh, and fish ball but its not eating.. luckily I have snails in my guppies tank, so I tried to give the snails to my puffer, it ate the snails.wohooooo... but it's ridiculous when I don't need the snails, their breed like crazy. But now when I need them, they hardly breed. Maybe something ate them. I saw frog and tadpole. Need to clear them I guess
@@acidbyt.30 Agreed. (Personally I'd get some cherry shrimp happily breeding in the tank - lots of cover- say a month before I needed to go away for a week - then I'd dump in all the baby snails I could find in the dark so they didn't necessarily spot them immediately. They'll happily subsist on baby shrimp, baby snails and algae for a while.)
Not the OP, but it's good to feed younger pea puffers twice daily, up to say 5 bloodworms each, or a shedload of baby brine. Until each puffer is less interested in the remaining food and they have visibly larger bellies than before (well fed puffers are distinctly less aggressive). The main issue is more that bloodworms aren't as nutritious as their food in the wild, so it's a good idea to supplement by soaking the worms in a vitamin additive like Vitachem or Seachem Nourish. If their diet is too samey and they get malnourished, they can be susceptible to lockjaw. (Another alternative is to feed live foods 'gutloaded' with spirulina - although mine will eat spirulina powder sprinkled on the surface directly, too, algae is a natural part of their diet.)
Thank u so much! I was wondering why my puffer wasn't eating the flakes or pellets i gave it but it only ate the worms i gave it now once u told me they only eat live food i will go and buy some live food

1)How many times do you need to feed daily 2)how long have you been keeping your dwarf puffer. 3) your dwarf puffer water do you add bit of salt (brackish water) or pure freshwater Thanks and do more videos on dwarf puffer =)
no. 5 gallons for one puffer, 10 gallons for 2 puffers, 15 for 3 and so on... - Make sure to only have 1 male per group, because they will be aggressive with other males. - It is recommended to have at least 1 male and 2 females. 2 puffers might fight with each other
My new pea puffer isnt eating anything I've put a couple snails in the tank but he's not eating them and I tried the bloodworms but he didn't eat those either
Good news! I cleaned his tank yesterday and found 21 empty snail shells! 3 others still had snails in them, 1 of the 3 was half eaten so I dropped all 3 back in and this morning two of them were eaten bringing his count up to 23!
Thanks for the information I put my pea puffers in my 75 gallon paludarium my tank already had all types of sizes of ramshorn snails I know this sounds like a silly question but do you think my baby pea puffers we'll go ahead and eat the snails
they are very territorial. You can only have one for every 5 gal and the one more for every 3-5 more if you have plenty of places for them to hide and guard. If you think one is boring then you probably don't want one.
Hows the puffer doing? I was thinking of trying 1 in a 5g but I get worried that it'll get lonely or bored. The other option is 2-3 in a 10g, but then I gotta worry about aggression.
Glad I saw this video. I knew they needed a special diet so I've been feeding mine baby brine shrimp

I feed mine mosquito larvae, bloodworms... So far it is working for them :)
Can they eat freeze dried bloodworms
@@holly9121 yeah they can you just need to practice them.
The snails look like beans :D

That 2.5 gal is really small for him
What do you do when you go on vacation. Can you put a lot of extra snails in the tank to tide the puffer over until you return?

Do you know about any algae eaters I can put with my pea puffer that he won’t attack
When you buy a 200 doller tank for one 2inch fish.
What
@@ChewysBro lol idk? Dude should I get 2 for a 10 or 15 gallon
@@ChewysBro and is blood worms ok?
Lol on amazon right now it’s $40 and most people recommend twice this anyway... she looks happy though!
anyone try canned snails? Will they eat that?
Can they be overfed
Thank you!
Can i ask you a question? Can they eat a frozen Chicken meat?
My new pea puffer isnt eating anything I've put a couple snails in the tank but he's not eating them and I tried the bloodworms but he didn't eat those either
Izzy H. Same! Did you finally get them to eat?
Honestly I've only found two shells so far in the tank as proof but he's still alive so he's got to be eating something.

@@staticjordan42374 I really dont have the money to feed them anything live but the snails lol

Yes they will. In fact they even when they are so full of snails they can’t eat anymore, they will still kill the other snails.
Yes
Very amazing puffer fish video
Can they eat freeze dried bloodworms?
How often do Pea Puffers need to be fed? And how do you feed them if you go on vacation? Can they go a few days without food?
Thanks chewy!✌
AquariumCop you want pea puffers!?

I think they need a variety of food in their diet, and the snails might have had something wrong that made puffer die
Z W possibly however I’m not sure what they could have that killed the puffer. I fed him snails and bloodworms.
Thanks for the good advice
I love ramshorn snails and shrimps🥺 so I cant keep pea puffer
I name this fish puff unni
What pleco is that in there? And what size tank is it
that is otto fish
Can I feed moina culture to puffer fish?
Did it eat meal worm, worm that people breed for fish food
Thanks for the tips,I liked the video and can I feed mine freeze dried brine shrimp or ramshorn snails that's not alive and your puffer is so cute!
They eat dry bloodworms.
Can I feed them clams instead of snails? Wait are you sure that their teeth don't need breaking down?
I bet you could!
How about mealworms?

This is the species I want where can you purchase them? Please help.
whats the other fish on the glass??????
An ottocinclus (or however you spell it haha)
otocinclus catfish, but I would recommend keeping them in at least 10 gallons with a group of 5-6. Any less isn't good for them
can they eat normal snail from the land
As far as I know, aquatic snails only
Can u help me out mine just started floating 1 min he is fine now me is floating😪
Mine didn’t eat them and died
Where do you keep/store the snails before feeding them to the puffer?
In a separate tank
@@ChewysBro i keep mine in a mason jar
is that a lone otocinclus? arent they supposed to be in groups of 3 or more?
I think there's two
They like to be in groups of 6 or more!!!
@@buddyx1630 ah I don't know the right number just knew they couldn't be alone
can I feed mine bladder snails?
Yes!
Mine are to stupid to eat snails
What would you say about feeding every other day? I've read some people who recommend this but they don't say why
I personally have not tried every other day feedings, so I can’t give feed back. As long as the fish is plump and not skinny though it should be ok
Chewy's Bro Aquatics okay, thank you! I’ll try plump them up a little and gradually feed every other day.
doesn`t he hunt your other fish all the time?
They should not be housed with other fish normally. Sometimes they can be kept with plecos
So cute 🥰🥰
Do they have to be fed everyday?
Yes
I feed mine live blackworms once every 3-4 days and they are doing fine
Where did you get the 4 rocks from?
My backyard
Oh
And are the plants anubias or what are they!?
So i dropped in a few snails yesterday and they arent eating them very well however they LOVE bloodworms. Any ideas on how to get them to eat snails?
That’s so weird. Maybe just give them time
try breaking the shell and cutting them into smaller pieces. My puffer isn't that great at eating them out the snail. Hopefully this helps!
Don’t feed brine shrimp
Why do you say that?
yaaaaaa
