  • In the US, Cummins has announced it will launch its most efficient heavy-duty diesel engine ever. As the next product in the Cummins HELM 15-litre fuel agnostic platform, the diesel X15 will be compliant with U.S. EPA and CARB 2027 aligned regulations at launch.
The new X15 advanced diesel engine is Cummins’ most efficient yet, designed for the Cummins’ fully integrated powertrain featuring Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies and Cummins-Meritor

I bought a new isx in 2000 dual overhead cam engine. Had 1,350 ,000 miles on a rebuild. Changed oil every 10,000 miles. all done at home. Been a great engine. Still. Running it. Would never buy one with this emissions crap on it. I’m 68 years old. About ready to retire. Don’t like being out here anymore. Drivers are not like they used to be. A lot are foreign. EV is worst over all for the environment because those products come out of open pit mines and in many instances its gathered by basically slave labor. Just seems all they are trying to do is meet some tail pipe regulations and to hell with what it really means to other humans to make it happen

Aside from the emission lines of conversation. Lets focus on repairability and serviceability. The very first topic is the "special tool count" of which Cummins as the leader in being the worst for. Every new series of engine comes out with a new list of very special overpriced tools for that engine. Detroit while have their own special tool list, has put a lot more effort into serviceability and minimal repurchase of special tool while also keeping the cost per part MUCH lower than a Cummins.
I hate to say Cummins is a built to sell engine while Detroit and CAT are built for service, we no longer allow Cummins as their cost of parts and service plus regular downtime costs too much. We no longer buy pickup either for the same reason, there is no value in Cummins being under the hood right now.
Cummins problems are further exacerbated by companies such as PACCAR and VOLVO who shoehorn the engine into their trucks without any thought of serviceability and accessibility. Built to sell. The new theme in my generation is "built to service" which will define the new direction to much more sustainable ownership.

These days Cummins is an absolute overpriced piece of crap ! The dashboard lights up like a frigging christmass tree within days after every shop visit trying to fix whatever is wrong with the Cummins junk under the hood and it’s always a struggle with the warranty claims !
I tremendously miss the Caterpillar engines and the last decent Cummins was the N14+ (it was decent because it was the cheapest truck diesel to do an in-frame rebuild after the big cam ntc and not because it was a very good product / cummins = “come apart” )

If Cummins really cared about their future and the future of the trucking industry, they would pay close attention to what Edison Motors out of Canada is doing. The future is not more regulation and more environmental BS. You want power and torque, that's going to come from electricity. This is not something new, locomotives for decades have been diesel electric hybrids. And now, a startup out of Canada in less than 1 year has brought a brand new OEM truck to market. For the first time in 30 years in British Columbia, a brand new truck has come to market and it is going to put the other truck manufacturers and engine manufacturers to shame.
Pay attention to this little company, because they are going to rewrite the trucking industry.

Cummins, NONSTOP check engine lights, derated engine due to fault codes, electrical problems that nobody can find. Low CO2 due to sitting at dealer shops waiting for weeks to get fixed. How can anyone afford a new truck that can't work of be dependable. My 2009 cummins cost me $60000 in repairs before throwing the #5 rod through the block and breaking it in two, not under warranty. GARBAGE

@@jaypayne8363 I have heard and seen more Junk Cummins than just mine. If you want to be a cheerleader for cummins be my guest but I am around them all day and I know what complete trash they really are. TO BE SPECEFIC I am talking about the X15 and anything 2007 or later, the older cummins were great, N14, big cam.

There are many solutions means, we need to continue to make money off the long contracts we locked ourselves into. We don’t have the tech to solve issues currently being solved by Tesla. We would have to start over without the skills or money. We need to keep selling overly complicated engines and other drive train parts to try to solve issue Eaton and others had by buying them and including their bad engineers into our product lines. Please buy our expensive, unreliable, overly sensored engines so we continue to make money for our investors while burning your money on failed overly complicated tech that fails more often than the old Cummins

Cummins cannot seem to put a stainless-steel bolt in their grid heaters in Dodge pickup trucks. Any idea how many tens of thousands of ruined engines this cost owners?
    Trust them I don't.
