Had that poster on my wall as a teenager. When I started driving in the early 80’s, Motor Cargo, the company who hauled the Space Shuttle also hauled military equipment. They knew their ShiShi! Great times.
I drove what looked like would be a nice Peterbuilt 379 this winter. The thing was a very disappointing Rattle Trap. Squeaks and Rattles everywhere. Also the DEF fluid kept freezing up an would shut the computer down limiting the fuel. I had to drive it 18 miles to the mechanic shop at 8 miles an hour. The mechanic couldn't come to me because his truck was broken down. The nickname for that 379 was "Squeaky." Also a distant relative worked on road construction with me last summer. His new peterbuilt truck was down constantly with different problems. We worked five days a week and This guy averaged 3 days a week due to break downs of all sorts. We all felt bad for him as he was the type of guy that would work circles around you most days. But he was financially strapped to this truck stuck between a Rock and a hard place. What was it they kept saying in this video???! Quality!!!?
I had no idea that Paccar was a US company. So very cool considering how many we are losing to overseas. I am building a custom truck with a cummins and needed a intake manifold that I can only find on a paccar engine in the UK. I found this very aggravating. Cummins here can't even get me a part number. I feel a little better knowing Paccar is at least a US company.
Honest no BS opinion from a trucker please. I’m on the fence on buying a 2019 t680. On paper the b10 rating is awesome. But I’ve heard from other owner ops that Freightliner has the DEF figures out and the other company’s are trying there best to keep up but have many issues with def systems. I don’t want a Freightliner based on looks and the blandness of the cab so my question is to a 15+ trucker vet would you buy a t680?
Read about my earlier reply. Great engines, we never had problems with them. Our Cummins cant pull The Moonbi's in NSW Australia without threatining to shut down with heat issues, and regularly de-rate and threaten to shut down. Why do Kenworth run insufficient cooling systems on our Cummins, but the PAC's with aluminium radiators run 20`c cooler. You've gotta ask man
Good engines but not enough mechanics with the knowledge on how to work on them and that’s the main problem, as soon as we get more educated mechanics wide spread across the country then these engines will get more respect
Early Cuyler I think all the emissions crap is here to stay my friend unfortunately... the engineers are just gonna have to figure out how to make it all more reliable, or something
We had 2x 19 metre SAR 409 Kenworths with PAC engines. They weren't a punchy as ISX 15 Litres, but were 13 litre engines. 740,000 and 560,000 kms respectively and never broke down. These engines run cool compared with the Cummins ISX and Signatures which run really hot, i.e. 110-120 degrees c. They had automated 18 speed Eatons behind them( Paccars) and were deceptively quick, maintaining road speed when they seemed to be slow. Mechanics turned there noses up at them because they got no work from them. These two 19m's were sent to Orange/Lithgow NSW in Australia. They continue to work without trouble. I wish our branch still had them.
Daf engines 👎 ( too problematic) but the cab is very big and comfortable compare to other European trucks. The best trucks back in Europe are Volvo Scania and Mercedes (Actros series)
Eh don’t really like paccars. The engine for our American trucks should always be caterpillar and Cummins engines. That’s how it should be. Paccar engines are just too damn techy. In a truck built for heavy duty work, they should have cat or Cummins or Detroit motors in em. They are built for power and to stand heavy jobs and all that. Paccars don’t have as much power as those engines. The highest horsepower paccar engine I’ve heard up was one that only had like 505hp. That’s ok I guess but that engine can’t be put into a truck that does heavy hauling. Paccar is a more European engine. They are in European trucks which I hate because they literally all look the same and they drive like cars. So easy to drive those things I hear. So in my opinion they should not put paccars in the American trucks anymore. They just ain’t that good for em.
The nowadays highest powered PACCAR MX-13 is 530 HP and developed by PACCAR's daughter DAF Trucks the Netherlands. In 1987 there was a DAF Truck (0ver 1000 HP) which won the Paris - Dakar rally.
@@47rintin1 built motor of course. The Paccar engine is pretty shit... seriously, it’s a piece of shit. No power they don’t sound good at all. You don’t see em much here in the U.S. the ones I see the most have crappy 455hp!
Kenworth, Pete, and DAF three legends in the industry all made by the same company PACCAR.
Work for Paccar 4 1/2 years 2011-2015 learned a lot I'm still a stock holder made lots of $$$ very challenging
My neighbour drives a DAF CF Euro 6 for grains and bulk products for farmers in the netherlands. 4 PM up on the road, 9 AM back home!
Real trucks, unlike the competition.
Super informative.

Bring back the Aerodyne COE. Not the most comfortable ride, but they sure had style and looks.
Daf is some real truck talking from experience.
I worked there for 4 years. Strong Company they care about the customer.
I'd like to know about "Big Mama", a Kenworth that was used to haul an experimental nuclear reactor in the 1950s or 60s.

Mechanical things break sometimes but with good care my simple not too flashy Volvo keep hauling and making money

But the so-called PACCAR engine is an engine developed by DAF Trucks the Netherlands.
I am pretty proud to say that I've used Paccar products for most of my life.
Northwest born and bred.
And damn proud of it.
How proud ? Very , or super duper proud ?
Is that really something to be proud of?
Hello Paccar ITD
HUH!!!
I did not know that. I learned a lot today Thank you.
Didn't know about the early days.

Freightliner is losing market share.... just a thought.
freightliner is absolute junk buy kenworth glider kit .
Kw and pete have a 20-30% better resale value than other brands NO BS .
My old man's dream tractor is a 379.
Didn't know that they'd bought Daf also.
They bought DAF in the early 1990s

The mx engines where designed in Europe we’ve had the engines for years they punch well above there weight and descent fuel economy
Right! By DAF!
They're junk , run Cummins and you'll be much more productive and reliable

Well I learned something this company is,American owned I though some company was from overseas.

until they get rid of all the stupid emission garbage none of them will be any good

I like both trucks under paccar banners
Kenworth and Peterbuilt all day everyday.
kenworth and mack all day
the Kenworth Aerodyne C.O.E. was the best
And the best truck in this movie is....??? DAF! YEAH!!! DAF is 50 years ahead of any American truck out there!
I’m still a fan of KW, but not with the paccar engine. Cat
Plastic fantastic
Yeah right sadly :( . Plastic and sensorssssssssssssssssss everywhere :(
now all KW's have the paccar engines, not ideal for Aussie conditions !
Awesome!
I still drive PACCAR products, but, The quality isn’t there like it used to be. Build them cheaper and charge higher prices. That’s how America rolls.
You are, rite about it. I bought a,new 2016 navistar. You just can tell where they cut coners on it. And too high of a price.
wow
Eeewww paccar engines there nothing better than A Cat-15 Cummins N14 and Detroit Series 60
Mack: E-9 & MP8/MP10, Cummins NHS-275 & NH-220. Cummins 350 & Big Cam 400, Cummins M-11, ISX (Kinda Crap), & ISL 380. Cummins Signature 600. Detroit Diesel: 6v71, 8v71, 6v92, 8v92, & Buzzin' Dozen 12-Cylinder. CAT 3406 & 3408 (3408 has head gasket issues though) CAT C-15 multi-torque, C-16, C-18, & CAT 1693 (The FIRST Cat OTR engine put in a truck from a bulldozer.)

Grant Ball I’m convinced there good engines ESPECIALLY with really good maintenance
What they failed to mention was how much of a piece of shit and pain in the ass the mx engine actually is
Daf engines 👎 ( too problematic) but the cab is very big and comfortable compare to other European trucks. The best trucks back in Europe are Volvo Scania and Mercedes (Actros series)
The MX-13 IS NOT an industry leading engine.
paccar engines are not a good choice for american trucks and owner-operators
