i just got my adapter ring and filters. this trick works great! i went with 77mm because that's the size of my other lenses that I use most often. i thought that size would be huge on the oa3 but it's not that bad. thanks again. also in case anyone is wondering, this hack works on a smallrig cage as well
Phenomenal! Can you tell what step up ring fits the Osmo Action 4 lens? Would it require two rubber lens grippers as well? Got a few 49mm lens filters and can’t wait to use them with the Osmo Action 4! Thank and more power 🙂
Hey! Thanks for watching! I would gather it is the same lens size as the DJI action 4, but I would have to confirm once I am able to test it out on a physical camera. You would need the two rubber rings in order for it to work. You can use this step up ring: amzn.to/3Fd60j3
@@628creates Thanks! Planning to use it as a secondary vlogging camera, I’ll leave it with the original lens cover if there’s a bit of an action. Thanks a lot 🙂
Got the Adventure Combo. I guess it’s officially not included with Osmo Action 4 purchases. Now left with a step up ring of no use 😅 Been checking and it appears that the lens grippers are no where to be purchased. Looking for alternative options with rubber washers 😅
Did you just happen upon this while experimenting? Or did you break out the digital calipers and measure the outside diameter, then go "aha!, a step up ring will do the trick" ??? Awesome video.
Thank you for watching! I really appreciate it. I literally just gave the camera a death stare until this idea came out of my head. I did not want to buy separate ND filters when I already have a closet full of filters and step up rings. So I experimented until this worked. 👍
thank you for this awesome video/hack. as I will be buying filters anyway I'm wondering if I could just use a 40.5mm filter on it's own instead of step-up ring and filter?
I’ve been using a similar mod with my original Osmo action and now the action 4. It’s not perfect as under certain lighting conditions you get a reflection ou your action camera lens including the lettering around the action 4 lens. It’s great for well planned static shots.
Thanks for watching! If you used the 2 rubber rings that came with the camera and a 40.5-43 mm step up ring, then maybe try another brand of step up ring. I know it sounds strange, but some manufacturers vary ever so slightly. If you still have trouble, watch my newer video and try that. Hope it works out for you!
Hi! Great video! But I have dji action 4 and I don’t habe these rubber lens grippers...how can I got them? I think that tou can't buy them separately.. many thanks
Thanks for watching! I believe you have to purchase one of their combo kits, or at least that is what I did for the Action 3. (the standard combo) I have looked, and those rubber grippers are impossible to locate to purchase separately. Good luck to you!
Perfect. The action 1 had GND filters from pgytech but they don't make them for the Action 3. This solves the problem and can get a high quality GND filter.
Freaking awesome trick! Thanks man for taking the time to inform us about that - best of luck starting out too btw. Also, what main camera are you using?
Thank you for taking the time to watch! I am glad it helped you out. I have been using the Canon EOS M to film the most recent in studio videos. When out and about, I use the Sony A6500 because of its AF. I plan on using the Osmo 3 for upcoming outdoor videos. Have a good one!

@@628creates Just got my Action 4 today. It doesn't have the removeable rubber ring at all. So not sure if it will work. Feels like a plastic edge on the lens protector.
@@FourKnown The rubber rings are what make this work, so if the rubber rings did not come with your camera, it will not work. Try searching for Osmo Action 3 Rubber Lens Protector or Osmo Action 4 Rubber Lens Protector. Although, they are not so easy to locate.
Hey! Thanks for taking the time to watch. The only size that will work based on my tests is the 40.5mm ring to whatever size you want on the front. Hope that helps. Have a good one!
Hi, please help me out, I got a 40.5mm step up ring but mine isnt getting fixed after both the rubber grippers are attached, with one of them its loose and with both of them its not working, perhaps the rubber ring is thicker or some other issue, I checked the step up ring and its absolutely fine
Hello! Thanks for watching! Bummer that you received a ring that did not fit. I had ordered another 40.5 ring to accommodate a separate filter, from the same brand, and I had the same issue. It may be best to try another brand. Like this one: amzn.to/3Fd60j3
@@628createsThanks for replying, you are right, thinking on the same logic, I ordered 2 different ones yesterday, to check if the filter from a different brand will fit in, will update you, thanks again.
Hi sir, got another one and it's working fine, fits in perfectly, thanks a lot for the hack and I am sure there are thousands others who are thankful to you for this, stay blessed.
Thanks for watching. The reason I prefer not to use the Freewell filters is because of the lack of flexibility. Using the method I describe in the video allows me to not only use ND filters, but any filter. It also allows me the ability to stack filters and easily remove them in less than a second without having to fiddle with screwing off and on the filters and exposing the interior lens while outside and potentially getting dust or some other particulate that will likely damage the video or camera itself. Also, most people already own filters, so this hack allows you to utilize those filters by buying a cheap set of filter step-up rings. Have a good one!
People can fix the close focusing issue on certain Action 3s with this method by adding a 43mm +1 close focusing filter, add a diffusion filter for cinematic effect whatever, very flexible solution.
Welcome. All reviews indicate that the DJi Action 3 is a great camera Unfortunately, I have one, and after trying it, the video resolution is very poor. Just propaganda for DJi, nothing more, and I deeply regret buying this camera.
Thanks for watching. I have found the Neewer variable ND filter works well for me with no issues. It's better than having to screw filters on and off and exposing the interior while outside in the elements.
