Answering: Why is Erlang a hidden boss? Because the whole thing the whole game was planed by Erlang and Wukong. Erlang became friend with Wukong long ago. Erlang is actually a kind guy who has sympathy for others. But at same time he agrees to keep the rules. As he said, Wukong was a stone monkey who can not be killed. Only Wukong kan kill himself if he agrees his own death. The greatest purpose for Wukong was to break free, but his Master Jinchanzi put a golden circle on his head, only Jinchanzi, and Guanyin Budha can take it away. They can control him by keeping the circle. So the only chance for him to get rid of it was to die and reincarnate. In this case, he has a new body without the circle. Erlang helped Wukong with this plan. But he can not let the Celestial court know it. The gods still wish to tame the new Wukong(you) so that you can serve them once more. Erlang is the type of dude who can not be ordered to do something. Other gods have to persuade him instead. So he came to ''kill'' Wukong (the beginning of this game) by his own will. Because he knew that was Wukong's only choice to break free. He said only he could challenge you for a duel at the beginning of the game, the instruction fight with Erlang. He said it to make sure that other gods wouldn't join the fight to ruin his plan. Then Wukong said there is too much light in the sky, come fight me in the woods if you have the gut. Erlang followed happily. In this case, the gods can not see what exactly happened between these two. Do you remember a cinema when you fought Redboy? There was a male voice that said something about he gave Wukong's 5 relics to 5 Yaoguais, Bull King(he was Wukong's loyal friend, he won't use it), the black wind sage in the first chapter(He knew it was gambling between the gods and buddhas, so he suggested Redboy not to get involved, he knew himself was merely chess to fulfill his destiny), Yellow Brow(His master, the baby buddha knew, and this buddha was helping Erlang and Wukong, it was him who made that wall painting to hide Erlang's secret area from the Celestial Court. And Bajie doubted why he let Yellow Brow mess around for a second time. Because the Buddha needs to let Yellow Brow come down so that you have a chance to get the relic from him). There are actually 6 relics after Wukong died. Erlang gave 5 pieces to 5 yaoguais, and made other people to believe that there are only 5. But he secretly kept the last one The Mind of Wukong. Now there is a fun codex about this in game. If you check Erlang's character codex in your Journey list. There is a fun story saying that there were 2 celestial court soldiers finishing off the monkeys in Mount Huaguo after Wukong died. One of the soldiers said he was at the front line that day during Wukong fought Erlang, and he saw Erlang took a part of Wukong. While these two were chatting about it, Erlang immediately appeared and killed them. Because it is supposed to be a secret. Erlang also put a piece of Wukong's armor in the chest in Mount Huaguo and waited for you to take it. It was only he who had the chance to get Wukong's stuff. Because he was with wukong at wukong's last moment. Because he was secretly waiting and guiding the destined one, he had to send his Mei Mountain Brotherhood to test you secretly. All those hidden bosses were his Mei Mountain brotherhood's fellows. He needs to be certain that you are truly worthy-the destined one-before he entrusts Wukong’s mind to you. If you listen to the Chinese dub, you'll hear Erlang speaking with sorrow as he fights you on Mei Mountain, because he deeply values his friendship with Wukong. There is another question, why did the Celestial court planed all these things? Why did black wind sage came to fulfill his destiny while he knew it was a mess of gods' gambling? This is another big hidden storyline. It was also a big storyline that Game Science told about the true meaning of the Journey to the West. Ofc, these are Game Science's version. They kept the basic storyline of the origin, and mixed with the Dao, Buddhism philosophy debate throughout Chinese history, and Political background, they explained the details with a conspiracy way of thinking. I guess DLC will show this part of the story about the true meaning of the Journey to the West, and the purpose of taming Wukong.
It's not kind of conspiracy, the bigger context in Wukong's story had been always being a crucial reality of so-called civilization history of mankind.
TLDR: Erlang and Wukong were buddies, they set up the events of the Black Myth game in order for Wukong to be reincarnated and escape the control of the Celestial Court.
if theyre really excluded, i will be furious didnt play god of war ragnarok, but ive seen stuff and knew, its gonna be goty seen elden ring, never finished it, but also knew: goty same with Bg3 and i always try to be as objective as possible but i dont see another game that would deserve it that much.
@@cptnhero6116 Yeah it's sad. Apparently to promote the political message of diversity is more important than any other quality a game could possibly offer.
My wife’s Chinese and grew up watching the Wukong live action TV series from the 80’s. She was anticipating this game for the past few years and she absolutely LOVED watching me play this game and I loved the game just as much. Sun Wukong is such a S tier character.
Hey Mati I as a Chinese viewer have finished following your series like 80% and I just want to say thank you! :D this is one of the peak BMW playthroughs series for me, absolutely well-done videos, great combat skills, great habits for exploration and completion, well-balanced emotions and stuff, ooh and really courageous for getting through Chapter 4 as an arachnophobic. Through your videos you've brought me a lotta joys and I deeply appreciate that. Also really happy to see you enjoying this game! Seeing such a great game from my country bringing people from all over the world together is trully satisfying man. The lore of this game is based on several versions of JTTW mythology, OG novel and several TV adaptions included, I'd say it's a real good continuation in a soulslike-ish dark fantasy narative, telling a good story on its own while maintaining lore-accuracy (with some alterations) at the same time. Looking forward to seeing you dive into the story in the future!
Hi Mati, wonderful play through!!! i don't usually comment a lot but I think you really enjoyed this game. and you are one of the most genuine player of this game, so I feel obligated to explain some of the key point, the story and lore to you. so you don't get confused by the bloody old monkey especially if he is going to appear again in the DLCs(two DLC confirmed). I'm native Chinese, been told about this myth again and again as I grew up. I have read the original book. So I would say I know it fairly accurately. 1. when you first go into Mt. Huaguo, the ribbon you mentioned is call 符 it is a taoism seal. usually being used to seal a place or an evil being. it forms a invisible realm around the seal, it feels like a magnetic force field or some sort. keeping things going in or out. that's why the spider sisters cannot escape the hollow. the supreme inspector is the gate keeper of the heaven once single handly beat wukong. he is also a bloody fink, he is the reason that bajie is punished by the jade emperor to the mortal realm to become a pig. no body in the court like him. the hand on his head is emperor's hand it show the authority. 2.First and foremost that old monkey is NOT your best friend and he is not our worst enemy either. However one thing I know that he is full of CRAP, excuse my language, it kinda pissed me off hearing him describing wukong's young age. Bajie couldn't correct him because Bajie and wukong didn't grow up together, they met in the journey. The old monkey used this lack of information among the three of you and told a bunch of lies. Wukong didn't steal, rob or have to have the staff as his weapon. when he is acquiring his weapon he visited the East Sea palace. The loong king offer him some regular weapon for him to take for free. wukong thought they are all way too light for his swing. and then the loong king told him that if you are able to lift this iron staff that is there to stabilize the sea water then you can have it or just grab something regular and stop bothering us. the staff weighted 7 tons and wukong spin it like a toy. and really liked it. so he took it. after wukong left the sea water start to became unsettle forming giant wave and tidal. The loong king started to regret and sued wukong to the celecial court framed up him that he took the staff without permission. what a jerk. 3.wukong had never asked for a position in heaven. the court offer him one in order to have him near by and contained so wukong won't cause any trouble in the mortal realm. 4.When the court offer wukong a position, they lied about the position is going to be high up there such as a grand general. but in reality it was one of the lowest position in the court which is a horse herdsman(this title became his forever shame). No body respect him nor his position in the heaven. 5.wukong didn't try to over throw the palace just because he wasn't invited to the holy peach banquet. He ate all the peaches lol. he was angry because no one respect him with such power within him as promised. instead everyone look down upon him. he felt so betrayal. So he wanted to give the jade emperor a lesson for contempt him. 6. the lady on white tiger ridge the old monkey refer as wukong's lover. well she is not. at least not in the original book. It is a fan fiction. in the original book she is just a yaoguai tried to eat the monk(wukong's master) wukong beat her dead through 3 phases. the monk didn't know the lady is actually a yaoguai he was mis led to believe that wukong kill three innocent people. so the monk cast wukong out of the team back to Mt.huaguo. Then the monk got capture again by another yaoguai who Bajie is too weak to defeat. So Bajie went Mt. Huaguo to invite wukong back. When he went in to Wukong's water curtain palace, saw wukong sitting on his throne that's the famous scene in the game that Bajie imitate wukong. 7. wukong want to quit Buddhahood not because of the lady. he discovered ugly truth of Buddha which is buddha's longevity is fed on human fleshes and spirits, they basically consume on human and low position yaoguai’s will there’s never mercy but consuming. Wukong believe this is actually the evil of evil. The whole spider hollow, purple cloud mountain and yellow brow's pagoda prison are inside out bloody ugly will farms for those high up. Wukong can't take the truth of the immortality and turned against to them. this is why he is surrounded again in the intro because when the system wants you and you dare to reject... 8. old monkey didn't know Erlang secretly took away wukong's mind relic. that is why he said the mind is gone. but if you play NG+ you can activate mind right after beaten Erlang. Erlang kept wukong's mind and tried to understand why wukong choose to die. and after meeting us he finally understood that the only way to break free from the band is to kill the physical form that the band is attached to. Erlang is on our side after. to your concern of the people on the ground when you fight Erlang in giant form. it is a painting realm, just like Dr. strange's mirror realm. it's safe. no worries haha. 9 the old monkey should be one of the buddhasava from west. You can tell from the floating ribbon outfit. his job is just there to make sure the generations of destined ones wears the head band in the end. his mission is just there to screw you over so wukong can be remain contained. because they know they aren't able to kill him. 10. The boat rowing towards us is wukong newest memory, think of it as tenet, you see us coming out , that means we made out ok haha. The ending animation is journey to the west in backwards.
43:30 this monkey is one of Wukong's general, who is also his adopted mother. She witnessed wukongs birth from the rock (the giant shigandan) and has guided him to the community of monkeys in Mount Huaguo, she also encouraged him to seek knowledge outside of the mountains. If you read her portrait, you will know that she's also on her own journey to bring Wukong back, that's why you will encounter her in every chapter, finding the skandhas for you. And when she finally sees you in full glory of wukongs shape, she knows that she job is done and her son has his own plan and legacy, that's why she hands the last skandha to you and laughs and leaves in relief ❤ definitely one of my fav characters from this game (also love how GS made her into the story)
What he said was correct. That monkey was Wukong's adoptive mother. In order to resurrect Wukong, she was looking for the "Five Yun Pearls" everywhere, an item similar to six relics, because the immortal told her that "maybe" after collecting them, she could Wukong woke up from the rock, which is why she was surprised to see Destiny Man. At the same time, she thought that her son Wukong had come back in another way, and there was no need to look for the five skandhas anymore, so she gave the beads to Destiny Man, lol Leave, sidichen2055 is right!
Basically, the old monkey told you the truth that for 6 relics, 5 of them remain: ear, eye, nose, Tonge, body. And mind / mindset vanished. A person’s mind is shaped by his experience and journey. After beating erlang, he filled you the secret part of memory how Wukong and Erlang planed this whole thing by killing Wukong himself and get rid of the Head band. After beating great sage broken shell. Old monkey passed you Wukong’s memory of the whole journey to the west. The Ending CG is journey to the west in reverse. Representing how you are observing the memory. So now you have the complete of Wukong’s lifetime memory, plus your own journey while collecting the relics. Which would help shape your mind, the last relic. And also be better than Wukong himself. You become the real successor of Wukong the name and the Victorious fighting buddha.
You nailed it about the soundtrack. Especially with Chapter 6 because from the start the music slowly hints at and builds up to a couple of motifs used in 1986 Journey to the West TV show, which hundreds of millions of kids in Asia grew up watching (including me). When that theme finally starts to manifest itself in full at 1:44:49, that’s when my first tear dropped cuz it just calls back to my childhood. After you entered the stone “egg”, all of the music you hear from this point on are just different variations on the soundtrack from the TV show. AND finally, the ending animation’s soundtrack is simply just a modern orchestration of the original intro theme to the TV show in its exact composition. Game Science purposely bought the rights to the music from the original composer for the TV show. They KNEW this was gonna be a tear jerker because guess what, the devs all grew up watching this TV show as well!
Exactly! Pure classic wukong BGM! From now on it’s known to the world! The dev team visited the original composer and played new version of his work, composer Xu was moved, happy and comforted
1:36:32 There is a detail here, Erlang blocked the Buddha's light in the Heavenly Court with clouds. Like the prologue of the game, in the prologue, Sun Wukong said that the sunlight was very dazzling, but in fact, it referred to the Buddha's light. The appearance of the Buddha's light indicates that the Heavenly Court is monitoring their every move.
In the last scene, it's heartbreaking that all of Wukong's friends and family are gone, yet he continues his journey, pushing forward to challenge the impossible.
Definitely one of my favorite games ever. Combat, Story and Cinematography are peak! My personal Game of the Year! Some info about both endings and my personal theory about the old monkey: In JTTW Guanyin gives Wukong the headband he has on in the intro cutscene and which drops from his shell after the fight. This headband is bound to Wukong after it gets put on his head and with which he can be controlled through pain. It basically functions as a magical shock collar. If one recites the chant Wukongs mind will be tortuted with pain. Guanyin made this headband because she and the Celestial Court were scared of Wukongs potential and his unruly nature. They used it to control him. I believe Wukong was promised to be relieved of the Headband if he bacame a Buddah, which he did, but in the end the Celestial Court left the headband on his head. In order to get rid of it, the only way was to kill himself and be reincarnated. Erlang understood this and therefor fought him in the intro cutscene in order to slay him. The Celestial Court used the headband to shock him and Erlang finished Wukong off. Like the Old Monkey said, all his 5 relics got scattered but the 6th, the mind one, didn't actually disappear. The Old Monkey lied. The 6th one got taken in by Erlangs eye in order to hide it from the Celestial Court. He kept it safe for a future reincarnation of Wukong to take it back from him. It basically includes all his memories. He hid in the mural to avoid the eyes of the Celestial Court and test the Destined One in order to see if he is worthy to recieve Wukongs memories. Bad Ending: In the bad ending you never get Wukongs memories back, therefor you do not know what the headband entails. Because of that, the Old Monkey can put the headband back on your head. Which means Wukong is once again shackled and his plan on freeing himself with reincarnation failed. Good Ending: Once your memories are obtained from Erlang you know the danger of that headband and therefor stop the Old Monkey from putting it on your head again. That happens right before the final cinematic, when the Destined One opens his eyes. In the bad ending he is exhausted and doesn't know of the danger and therefor keeps his eyes closed. Now for my personal theory about who the Old Moneky is: Guanyin Temple was Guanyins home and is in the area of Chapter 1. She is said to have vanished since Wukong died. I personally believe Guanyin has disguised herself as the Old Monkey to look over and guard Wukongs final resting place and send his reincarnations out into the wild to gather his relics. The lore of BMW states that the Old Monkey always equips these reincarnations with a wooden staff. Since Guanyin is immortal she has all the time to wait around and see if any of the reincarnations come back in order to become Wukong himself. And if they do, without the memories from Erlang, which the Old Monkey thinks are lost, she can savely put the headband back on his head and prevent a Wukong free from the Celestial Courts shackles. In the final boatride you can hear that the Old Monkey knows a lot about Wukongs life and has generally a pretty bad impression of him. He compares him to villains like Yellowbrow and the Yellow Wind Rat Sage. The Black Bear Guai in Chapter 1 and the Shrine Keeper also mention that someone is pulling the strings in the Background. We never find out who that someone is tho. I believe its Guanyin disuised as the Old Monkey. And finally while fighitng Yellowbrow he mentions that he saw the Destined Ones future and that he will "fall" by the hands of the one he's fighting for. I believe it could hint at the possibility that the Old Monkey will be the Destined Ones downfall in the bad end, without wukongs memories. Since he was the one that sent him on this journey to begin with. Man I'm hyped for the DLC and possible future games from GameScience!
When the trailer released, I was so hyped because the soundtrack is from the OG Journey To The West series from 1986. Wukong has been my childhood so you know how much that soundtrack made me hyped. Loved the gameplay, loved the reactions Mati! I’m looking forward to next games, I love your energy!
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS The moment i saw how amazing the cutscenes and fights of this game were i was SO looking forward for you to play it cause i always love your reactions and comments and how you appreciate and get affected by great sequences and and and I JUST KNEW THIS WAS THE PERFECT GAME FOR YOU TO PLAY/REACT TO OKAY so yeah, thank you so much ❤
FINALLY IT'S TIME. Waited to watch this on my birthday specifically because this is the last episode, and because you, Mati, have made the most enjoyable, memorable, and exciting playthrough of this game (This is gonna be an insane watch bro my heart's gonna crash out on god). I've watched alot of them, and yours is the only one that I followed through from the start. Your playthrough made me feel like I was going through the game for the very first time, the effort you took to be thorough with this game gave me a lot of instances of newfound appreciation for parts of it that I glossed over before, it was actually an insane feeling. AAAAAA this appreciation pushes past the game too, as You've genuinely become one of my favorite letsplayers/creators so quickly. Just the effort in the editing, humor, thoroughness, everything. I don't know what else to say honestly, Game of the Year, W Playthrough, W Creator, will continue to stay with this community and watch great videos🙏
Actually, in Chapter 5, Wukong's words to the Bull King-"Your brother, I've disciplined; your boy, I've given away"-mean that the Bull King's brother and son were protected by Wukong from being hunted down by the Celestial Court, so he doesn't need to worry. Because the Celestial Court is watching, he couldn't say it directly, Wukong is not a bad guy. Also the old monkey is always lying. Wukong's mind has been secretly preserved by Erlang all along. If you don't fight Erlang, you'll find in NG+ that although you have sixth relic but there's no point. This can also be seen from Journal in Erlang's chapter.
Such an incredible game man i was truely blown away by it, to think its there first attempt at one of these type of games is actually insane. Ive never fought a boss that made my jaw drop quite like the stone monkey and a vessel, the amount of shit he can do to you like stealing your healing and disrespecting you mid fight was so amazing. So happy you played it bro! Cant wait to see whats next in the pipe line. Regardless of if im into the game or not ill watch it cause your a blast. Full time youtuber lets go!
Gosh, I remember watching the goofy ass Wukong tv series when I was kid in the 90s. And now I'm watching a masterpiece of it as a game. Feels full circle man. Thanks for the very enjoyable experience, always love your positivity and enthusiasm when playing! 🥳🎉👏🏻
Chinese viewer here. Can't praise black myth enough. The game is very faithful to the story except one thing, the love story of Wukong with the white skeleton lady (which threw me off a little). But it's a tinny flaw in an emotional, intruiging, exciting, fun and jaw dropping experience. I give it 99/100.
I thought the love story maybe just a Easter egg for their last game “Asura”, which is already dead lol. It is very common for game producer to do that, but it is still shocked for other players that did not ever play that game just because we cannot even imagine a love story of Wukong.
What a journey! Kinda sad it was over already! And one question: am I the only one remembered to use wind tamer on Cloud Deer's tornados? Kekw The monkey you met after defeating Giant Shigandang is actually a lady, also Wukong's mother figure if you will. Fan fact, Jiao-Loong of Waves was originally designed as the third phase of the White-clad Noble fight, the devs later scratched the idea after some QA testing XD And oh my Lord! You are using the only drink that he would NOT drink after immobilizing you during healing XDDD
dude the secret section blew me away. jaw was actually on the floor the whole time playing this. erlang is one of the coolest bosses I have ever seen then the giant section is just peak cinema 😭😭 I did not expect to like this game as much as I did
Now watch the 1980s Japanese TV show 'Monkey'. It tells the story of the Journey to the West, but is one of the trippiest, funny shows ever. I watched it when I was young, and loved it. Its even better if you're high
We're finally here! Always looking forward to your videos, Mati! Finished the game quite some time ago myself and it's been a blast watching you play through it as well
There have been several versions of the story portrayed over the centuries in films, TV shows, stage plays, animes, and video games. It is one of the most famous and beloved story on earth. This video game uses styles and clothing and details from several of these versions giving a nod to what shaped many people's childhood. This has to be the pinnacle in video games with matchless production value and artistry.
Hi Mati, thanks for the wonderful playing 🎉 We are really enjoyed it! I'm really interested to see if you can record the reactions to another game trailer. “Showa American Story” is a game about Japanese culture colonizing the United States, made by Chinese developers. It's a crazy game!!! Thanks a lot!!!
The ending was so good, full of cryptic messages and lore, so enjoyable to watch. It made me want to study more about chinese literature. This is truly the meaning of doing it right. I really hope they make a sequel or do anything as godly as this. Btw you rocked mati, I've been watching you since the Bloodborne and full DS saga. I can't wait for more spider encounters cuz well we love seeing you suffer a little haha. Cheers man, thx for the great video as always
To get a quick download on the lore, there’s a TH-camr called “Overly Sarcastic Production” who has a phenomenal series to summarize the entire plots of Journey to the West. The series have been slow rolling and going on for 9 years already and but they still updating!
i normally bawl at the end of anything, good songs, guitar solos, commercials, movies, whatever. i didnt cry at all in this game aside from the finale movie for chapter 3 - the one with the gold sea creature with pearls. but watching this game finale again now im in tears.
i am chinese😁really love your video, hope my poor english won’t bother you , i have finished the game couple weeks ago, still get emotional by all the details, about the final fighting between you and greatsage, the part which makes you feel so disrespectful, like the Movie Easter egg, always make me(as a chinese) wanna laugh and cry, those designed moves fit his character so well, just feels like A Respected elder who i really worship since i was a little child, stand in front of me right now, teach me to try harder to be good, the great sage‘s character has been shaped to be unruly, tameless and proud in so many kind of derivative works for so many years, i love this game, and thank you for making videos, bring me quite a lot of fun❤
Chinese here. This game's narrative blows my mind and far exceed every single other journey to the west-inspired book or film, among which there are quite a few good ones. On top of that it is so tastefully executed, nothing but art. That such a pristine gaming experience can emerge out of a distressingly commercialized/politicized gaming landscape adds another layer of beauty to it. It just a shame that non-Chinese players may fail to appreciate many subtle aspects of this game, be it music (towards the end the music is a remake of what we hear from TV growing up, goosebump guaranteed), classical Chinese verses, or allusions to myths. This for me is the best thing that happened this year.
@@matiasgago not sure what you’re cooking for us but I highly recommend the Resident Evil 2 remake if you haven’t played it yet. Even though spooky season is technically over.
A wonderful final, boss, now I need this game. Awesome playthrough of black myth wukong love it ( on a side note I have three questions for the next time you do QnA. 1.whats your favorite weapon so far in soulsborne games 2. Who is your favorite character in elden ring 3. What is your most favorite boss of all time. Love this channel man can't wait till it gets to 100,000 subs bro
your reactions are brilliant as a Chinese fans I’m enjoying every single minute of your video! Maybe try the Chinese dub it feels completely different, and you can unlock the great sage mode and voice in some way (I’ll leave it to you to find out😊). Anyway thanks so much for making these great videos I will definitely stick around and checkout other videos from you!🎉❤
Have been following you for a long time. I really enjoy your content and delivery..you appear to really care about the games rather than rushing through like I see from many other streamers these days…Thanks so much for your efforts and hard work..keep going Mati..
peak entertainment 👏👏👏 your BMW play-through is better than any recent Netflix/Amazon prime/ Disney+/ HBO shows for me personally. I’m ok with this modern adaptation and expansion of the original novel, and a lot of these very creative things u mentioned are actually from the original novel. Seeing you enjoy the visuals and Buddhist chanting(non-white music)and play with these different martial art stances instead of rushing through the game make me very happy. And my experience with this game was on an 85 inch TV, so so good, recommend 👍
Congratulations 🎉 Damn that was some good fighting. Was hyped for the episode. Had just beaten the game before to not be spoiled. Such an awesome Spektakel. Really looking out for the DLC. Have heard about Kena: Bridge of Spirits ? It's an awesomely cute and pretty looking game, with and awesome fighting style. You sure would enjoy and I would love to watch a playthrough. 😊 Stay awesome
I was the same on my playthrough, I hadn't a clue what was going on half the time. The chapter-ending cutscenes confused the hell outta me. However, I watched a video on them and it makes sense...kinda. Anyway, the ending you got is the ''True'' ending. When he opened his eyes and they glowed yellow, that was Wukong. The secret boss had Wukong's memories, so in the end, Wukong remembered who he was. He broke free of the crown, which is why in the beginning he allows Erlang to kill him, so he can come back without his shackle/chain. Amazing game, I have loved your playthrough of it.
As a Chinese player who has watched all your Black Myth: Wukong videos, I love this game and am glad to see you enjoy it too. To answer the question at the end of this video: the game doesn’t stray too far from the original Journey to the West. Instead, it explores the hidden (and darker) aspects of the story, which is why it's called Black Myth.
I was gonna make a Frieza joke but I honestly can’t remember if he’s ever said “Goodbye, Monkey!” in Dragon Ball before 😅. Honestly hope this gets some form of DLC (or a sequel lol) later down the road, but I’d be fine if it doesn’t because that’s how great this game is. Also, Mati, I was wondering if you were gonna replay Arkham Asylum on the channel or not whenever you do the Arkham games. I know you said you already played it as a kid and you loved it, so that’s why I’m asking.
Journey to the west is a real classic for Chinese. The actual tale is darker but the main focus of the game is on the story after fetching the Buddhist relics from the West basically India. Most details are in tuned with the classic. But apparently you need to finish up to 3rd game plus in order to unlock the real Great Sage mode.
Been following you since Elden Ring base game playthrough, have seen you play all the souls games, god of war, shadow of the colossus, and as big fan of a lot of aspect of Chinese culture and mythology, seeing this was pretty cool as well. I think you should check out Space Marines 2, sounds like a fresh fun game you would like, and a series that you could do in like 4 episodes i believe, pretty good game that came out this year too, great Wukong series man, keep up the good work, you're doing amazing.
Mati, I was literally thinking this morning that if I don’t get another Wukong video to help me get through Election Day, I might lose my marbles. Thank you for your service.
@matiasgago PS 1:38:48 If this is true. I do genuinely hope that you think about trying out Asura’s Wrath like I commented a bit ago. If this is a 10/10 in cinema , then Asura’s Wrath is a 50/10 (and that’s only because Black Myth is available in 4k otherwise it would be a 100 comparatively). Additional PS. Congrats on beating Erlang with only 6 deaths, mad impressive gameplay my guy.
you know, most of the players who play this game start a new cycle to go on a revenge tour against all the bosses. youve been wanting to play this game on a big tv. might be something you want to look into. with that said, really enjoyed your playthrough of this game. Game science did announce that will come out with DLC but only when they are ready. Excited to see what you have planned next.
Thank you to everyone that tagged on this journey 💙
How did you guys feel about the ending?
I wish I understood the lore better but the ending is still good imo
What game is next?😊
Ending is Fantastic. So Epic and the inclusion of the original Journey to the West music is a great homage.
Gonna start the video. May have to watch in two sessions. Got some errands to run on this fine day before it gets to late into the day.

My wife’s Chinese and grew up watching the Wukong live action TV series from the 80’s. She was anticipating this game for the past few years and she absolutely LOVED watching me play this game and I loved the game just as much. Sun Wukong is such a S tier character.
You have a wife that enjoys watching you playing games?? I hate you
Hey Mati I as a Chinese viewer have finished following your series like 80% and I just want to say thank you!
Appreciate your explanation! I enjoy the gameplay even more after understanding the lore.
@ I’m so glad that people enjoyed this game. It’s beautifully made and few of the statues are from my city even
43:30 this monkey is one of Wukong's general, who is also his adopted mother.
@tswj read the journal entry yourself then
What he said was correct.
I actually tapped on this the moment it posted, purely by chance 😭 shit was destined to be
It truly was 🤣
you're the destined one haha😂😂
I completed Vuong because of you. You help me the entire way thank you so much. Your videos are amazing.

Definitely excited for the dlc. I wonder what the old monkey's reaction when we are awakened and refused the band after True Ending?
Good catch!
In the last scene, it's heartbreaking that all of Wukong's friends and family are gone, yet he continues his journey, pushing forward to challenge the impossible.
Definitely one of my favorite games ever. Combat, Story and Cinematography are peak! My personal Game of the Year!
Some info about both endings and my personal theory about the old monkey:
In JTTW Guanyin gives Wukong the headband he has on in the intro cutscene and which drops from his shell after the fight.
Bad Ending:
In the bad ending you never get Wukongs memories back, therefor you do not know what the headband entails. Because of that, the Old Monkey can put the headband back on your head. Which means Wukong is once again shackled and his plan on freeing himself with reincarnation failed.
Good Ending:
Once your memories are obtained from Erlang you know the danger of that headband and therefor stop the Old Monkey from putting it on your head again. That happens right before the final cinematic, when the Destined One opens his eyes. In the bad ending he is exhausted and doesn't know of the danger and therefor keeps his eyes closed.
Now for my personal theory about who the Old Moneky is:
Guanyin Temple was Guanyins home and is in the area of Chapter 1.

This is so fire, would love to see a lore reading video!!

It’s movie time! Can’t believe this is the final episode already!

The monkey you met after defeating Giant Shigandang is actually a lady, also Wukong's mother figure if you will.

Mati! Winnipeg Jets fan here. Love the videos. keep them coming ;)
So fun fact the music that plays is the theme of journey to the west

The series have been slow rolling and going on for 9 years already and but they still updating!
i normally bawl at the end of anything, good songs, guitar solos, commercials, movies, whatever. i didnt cry at all in this game aside from the finale movie for chapter 3 - the one with the gold sea creature with pearls. but watching this game finale again now im in tears.
and im 39 minutes in, its not even the finale.
i am chinese😁really love your video, hope my poor english won’t bother you , i have finished the game couple weeks ago, still get emotional by all the details, about the final fighting between you and greatsage, the part which makes you feel so disrespectful, like the Movie Easter egg, always make me(as a chinese) wanna laugh and cry, those designed moves fit his character so well, just feels like A Respected elder who i really worship since i was a little child, stand in front of me right now, teach me to try harder to be good, the great sage‘s character has been shaped to be unruly, tameless and proud in so many kind of derivative works for so many years, i love this game, and thank you for making videos, bring me quite a lot of fun❤
This for me is the best thing that happened this year.
can’t wait for the next series you decide to play!
I'm deciding between a few right now :D
@matiasgago I'm excited for your next games 😊
@@matiasgago not sure what you’re cooking for us but I highly recommend the Resident Evil 2 remake if you haven’t played it yet. Even though spooky season is technically over.
So glad you enjoyed this game just as much as we enjoyed watching you
You deserve so much more than just over 50k subs
A wonderful final, boss, now I need this game. Awesome playthrough of black myth wukong love it ( on a side note I have three questions for the next time you do QnA.
1.whats your favorite weapon so far in soulsborne games
2. Who is your favorite character in elden ring
Anyway thanks so much for making these great videos I will definitely stick around and checkout other videos from you!🎉❤
One of the best games i ever played 😭😭😭😭💪💪💪 thank you, you, in couraged me to finish the game thank you
thank you. i enjoyed your videos so much.
Great job dude, doing the second round to unlock more trophies, and also you get to beat pretty much every one of them with ease.
Have been following you for a long time. I really enjoy your content and delivery..you appear to really care about the games rather than rushing through like I see from many other streamers these days…Thanks so much for your efforts and hard work..keep going Mati..
I waited so long, love your content
peak entertainment 👏👏👏 your BMW play-through is better than any recent Netflix/Amazon prime/ Disney+/ HBO shows for me personally.
Here we Goooo. .. my favorite youtuber ❤
Sooo excited to see this. Thank you mati.
Hell yeah welcome back hero 😎
😎
I highly recommend playing silent hill 2 remake, it’s a horror game with a phenomenal story that you would love
All good things must come to an end 😢❤
Yes indeed :')
Journey to The West is a must read book, influence me a lot. it's more than a novel.
Enjoyed every moment of your gameplay!
wow I am glad that I was here for the whole journey
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate you bro
Possible hot take: Chapter 6 supreme inspector is one of my favourite bosses.
Mati, I was literally thinking this morning that if I don’t get another Wukong video to help me get through Election Day, I might lose my marbles. Thank you for your service.
1:43:55 can we say this is the game of the year guys. So far I think it definitely should be .
M'y man it is good to see you
Congrats on beating the game, Mati! Another one bites the dust!
We did it man :'D
