I can explain it like this: Wukong and Bull King fought the Celestial Court together as brothers. Then after getting beaten. Wukong was imprison by the Buddha. Bull King retreated back to his mountain. Buddha offer Wukong a chance for redemption by helping Tang Monk to retrieve scriptures (Journey to the West). Wukong accepted the opportunity. By accepting the mission, Wukong essentially works for the Celestial Court. On their journey to the west, there was a mountain that is burning that Wukong and his master Tang Monk must cross, but in order to put out that fire. They need the fan from Bull King's wife. So they went to get the fan but Bull King see that Wukong has betrayed him since he is now working for the Buddha and the Celestial Court. So Bull King refuse to give the fan and they fought. So as a result, many of the Bull King's family was slaughter by Wukong and Bajie. It's sad that they killed them but remember to Wukong and Bajie, they were demons. And so with the help of other celestial court gods, they capture Bull King and cut his head off. Bull King is a powerful being so he doesn't die. So after that Wukong got the fan that he needed. Unfortunately Bull King didn't realize Wukong's true intention was to complete the mission so he can gain status in the Celestial Court as a buddha. Wukong was hoping that will allow him to have influence in Celestial Court to spare his brother Bull King and his family as well as his fellow monkey families. In journey to the west novel, the story concludes with Wukong achieving Buddhahood and forever he is at peace in heaven. But in Black Myth, the game took a different direction where Wukong was misled. He was not freed and he was still under the rule of the Celestial Court and they had attacked his monkey families. So Wukong turn against the Celestial Court once again (which is the scene of the game opener). And the Bull King as usual makes the wrong decision to help kill Wukong with Erlang and the Celestial Gods. So in that scene was after Wukong and Erlang crashed into the mountain, Wukong was fatality injured and Bull King embrace him and remember the days they were sworn brothers. Of course, Bull King doesn't know that Wukong has a plan to resurrect and warn Bull King not to take his relic because those who takes it will get kill by the destined one. So Wukong was still looking after Bull King.
there's no buddha in the celestial court man.. a buddha does not work for anyone, a buddha might intervene only when it's a necessity.. like when sun wukong wrecked the heavenly court.. a buddha though, might offer consultation, or pointers to those who seeks the path.. like tathagatha buddha helping sun wukong when they met six eared macaque.. guanyin (black bear's master), lingji (the headless monk), and maitreya (the buddha boy) are bodhisatvas.. they are not yet a buddha in the story. if the prevailing speculation about the plot is right, then BMW might just get banned in china lol.. buddhism is still one of major religion with 520 million worshipers.. i don't think that the devs would be so bold to say that "buddhism is misleading people" by making a story where wukong who reached buddhahood was misled.. i thought china protects religion and not allowing criticism to religious believes and practices between believers or non believers.. though i don't know for sure, but i want to believe that the devs will make some surprise plot twist in the upcoming DLCs.. my speculation is that the intro wasn't wukong but six-eared macaque or the manifestation of wukong's six sense.. meaning that wukong did ascend to nirvana and he left behind his last attachment to the realm of the living which is his OP immortal body (his six senses).. six-eared macaque was exactly that.. a manifestation of wukong's six senses, not a monkey with six ears.. six eared macaque came back to live in wukong's body and got wrecked by erlang.. this also mean, that for sure.. the last boss in the BM wukong would be the victorious fighting buddha aka the real sun wukong.. he will intervene after the destined one beat the entire heavenly court.. just like how buddha did in the JTTW.. that means, there will be an appearance of lijing and nezha.. in the DLC..
Flame mountain actually exists in China and is located in Xinjiang province. Many temples and scenes in the game actually exist in China, and these places have the story of Sun Wukong that has been passed down for thousands of years.
@@sose6255 The author only collected stories that have been passed down in the folk and added his own creations. This mythological story has existed for a long time
This game is called Black Myth as it is a follow up from the original storyline of JTTW, made by fans and developers. The original story ended after Wukong successfully helped his master, the Tang Monk, to deliver the Buddha scriptures to the Tang Emperor. He was given the title of Victorious Fighting Buddha for defeating the yaoguais along the journey. At the beginning of JTTW, when Wukong emerged from power, he made friends with 5 other great yaoguais and declared themselves the "Great Sages" and tried to define the Celestial Court because for ages, yaoguais have been always considered bad and lowest rank in the universe, below the gods, Buddha and even human. The six sages (Wukong, Bull King and 4 others) launched an assault to the Celestial Court but they failed. For the punishment, Wukong was imprisoned under the 5-finger mountain by Buddha. The Bull King and other Sages also faced different punishment but for the most part, it is unknown. We know about the Bull King, however, he was imprisoned at the Flaming mountain for a purpose. His wife, a princess of the Yasha race, was forced to drink from the Childbearing River to maintain a bloodline of the Yasha and thus giving birth to the Red Boy, who is not the Bull King son. Sadden by all those incident, the Bull King separated himself from his wife and the Red Boy, though he still loved them. After sometime, he met and was filled with love with the fox princess. At the same time, Wukong has been freed by Tank Monk and the Buddha promised to give him freedom after he helped Tang Monk to go to the West and retrieved the scriptures to the East. To control and avoid him not to follow instructions, the Buddha and Guanyin tricked him to wear the headband and said it will be removed once he completed the journey. The Buddha set out 81 trials to test the crew on the way to the west and the Bull King was one of the challenges. The Red Boy was informed (probably from other yaoguais or the above) that eating Tank Monk will give him immortality and Buddha power. Since the Red Boy knew his origin of Yasha and also the fact that his race was eradicated by the heaven, he has been looking ways to empower himself so that he can take revenge on the Celestial Court. He fought with Wukong and tried to eat Tank Monk but failed, he was subdued by Guanyin and they made him follow her to learn Buddhism. The Bull King wife heard about it and started to hate Wukong. Therefore, when they came to the Flaming mountain, she refused to give him her fan to temporally put the flame down, so that they can pass safely. Wukong then went to look for the Bull King but after learning that Wukong now has submitted to the Heaven, the Bull King refused and fought him, thinking Wukong has betrayed their kind (yaoguais) and their sworn-brothership. As the fight happened, Bajie sneaked in and killed princess fox (the Bull King new love). The Bull King initially lost the battle and his first wife, to save her husband, agreed to give them the fan. Right after that, Bajie showed up and said he killed the fox, the Bull King enraged and unleased his true form. The Heaven sent out Li Jing and Nezha and a lot of other gods to kill the Bull King. Wukong was saddened when his brother was killed (as we can see in the cutscene) but he still believed in the promise of Buddha and continued the journey. However, after completing the journey and obtained the Buddhahood, Wukong learned that he was not freed and actually bound to the Celestial Court. They keep ordering him around and threaten his kind (monkey). This is when the story of this game begin. Wukong rebelled again, by himself this time but the Buddha once again helped the Celestial Court by chanting the headband to cause him immense heahache and lost the fight. To free himself for good, he killed himself and made the plan to return as a Destined One, who will inherit his memory and power but not the headband. Around this time, the Bull King and all other Yaoguais were revived as they were just test subjects for Wukong on the journey but their wills are also bound to the Heaven as they were the ones who revived them. The Bull King, Black Bear, Yellow Rat, 100-eyes, Yellowbrown had to help Erlang fighting Wukong and at the end, they each was rewarded with Wukong's relics. Because they are now on the Heaven's side, each of them was allowed to rule their regions however they like, that is why the havocs are back in the mortal realm when the yaoguais return. Only the Bull King, this time, after all the pain and misfortune, understands Wukong's action. Turn out, Wukong was trying to protect the Bull King and his family all this time, but because of misunderstanding Wukong, the Bull King had his family ruined. As the last words, Wukong told the Bull King that yaoguais will never be forgiven, regardless what they do, they will be always considered bad and their existence is the threat to the Heaven. Wukong told the Bull King to stay away from his relic. The Bull King listened and has been always hide the relic in his stomach, so that he can protect it from someone like the Red Boy who wants to consume Wukong's power for himself.
One correction, the Bull King wasn't killed. As we see in the cutscene, he was captured by Nezha's Red Armillary Sash and beheaded again and again (like Wukong, the Bull King also has the power of 72-metamorphoses, and each metamorphosis means a life, his head will sprout out soon once beheaded). After Nezha cut his head off a dozen times, the Bull realized he would be finished early or late if he kept the pointless struggle. So, the Bull surrendered and finally yielded to the Budda. Tips, the Bull was one of the top fighters in the three realms, the celestial court (Taoism) and Buddhism won't allow such power without control, that is why Wulong told the Bull 'Find a master and serve the right'.
Burning with flames is the heavenly rebel: Ne Zha. Together with Erlangshen and the Monkey King, he is one of the “Three Rotten Boys of Heaven”, and his story is sure to follow!
Reactions like this raises such a bar and is one of the reasons your content's some of my favorites I'm glad Wukong brought me to your channel and you enjoyed the game Cheers!
The chapter 5 ending anime is about how Wukong died after he quits Lingshan, and what happened about bull king and his family during the time of Journey to the West, and why bull king betrayed at the last moment when Wukong and he together against gods. This anime is fill of bull king’s all the inner feelings: regrets, hopelessness, failures, hesitation, and fears. He knows he is one piece of chess on god’s play board, forever. Therefore, doing nothing is his one but only one choice.
In ancient Chinese mythology the two headed pig is called "Bingfeng" representing the conflicts and struggles in our hearts, just like the bullking who used to be monkeyking Wukong's brother fight with him against him in different situations.
I can fill in some missing information. The animation is a flashback of 3 different events. When Wukong and the Bull King fought, it was during the Journey to the West. Wukong needed the fan to extinguish the flame of the Flame Mountain because it was in the way of their journey to India. The Bull King was not killed by being beheaded. This was because he had 72 heads. So, he just grew a new one to replaced his severed head. The second event was after Wukong was stuck down by Erlang. Before his death, Wukong warned the Bull King of his remains. His remains likely referred to the Destined One. The third event was when the Monkey and the Bull King were allies fighting the Heaven Army. That was way early in the novel.
I like "不由己"better, but I guess the phrase "can't help myself" just didn't have the vibe "不由己” has. So instead of translate it literally, they choose "Destiny" as the song for the English version title. (I feel sad that so much meanings & vibes was lost in the translation due to differences in culture & language structure. Like in the opening Erlang's line "生靈塗炭” was translated to "how tragic would that be?"
List of 'wrong choice' made by Bull King: 1. Side with Wukong on the prelude/early chapter of the journey of the west to rebel against celestial court, they lost. Wukong serve under celestial court to retrieve the Holy scripture, while Bull King goes solo. 2. As shown on the animation (briefly) Bull King refuse to lend the banana leaf to Wukong during Journey to the west, instead he stole it and gave to a concubine (the one that Pigsy said he k*lled). Ultimately, the celestial kingdom sends their army (one of them was Nezha as seen on the animation) to stop Bull King. Fun fact, Bull King was decap*tated several times by Nezha (Bull King has regenerative ability) that's why he's "not dead" after the decap*tation scene 3. Bull King neglect his family throughout the Journey of the west book 4. (Black myth game era) Bull King side with celestial court to stop Wukong as seen on the prelude of the game Finally realising after Wukong's death, all of his life choices from early life with his sworn brother Wukong to rebel till his death (allegedly) has always been the bad choice
I am Chinese, every time brush to this section, my tears can not stop the flow. The tragic experience of Princess Iron Fan and her family made me sad and unable to find myself. I have to admit that game developers do the game heart to make up the story.
Background lore here is that Wukong and the Bull were born Yao Guais before the beginning of JTTW, those two were sworn brothers and they rebelled against the Celestial Court 5:36. However their rebellion was quelled, Wukong was imprisoned for 500 years, the Bull surrendered and was sent to guard the Flaming Mountain. 500 years later Wukong was offered pardon and Buddhahood if he could escort the Tang Monk to the West and retrieve the Scripture (JTTW story). At one point in the journey, they pass through the Flaming Mountain, the fortress of the Bull, Rakshasi and the Red Boy. This was one of the tribulations set by the Buddha to test the Tang Monk. Long story short Wukong defeated the Bull with the help of Guanyin and some other Celestial Court gods, briefly shown starting at 7:10 in the video. Note that just like Wukong, the Bull is also immortal, he didn't really die here. The Bull thought Wukong betrayed him as shown at 7:25. However, what Wukong had in mind was by serving the right cause and obtaining Buddha hood, he and his brothers would be spared from judgment, he didn't betray the Bull, but the Bull didn't understand him at that time either. After ascending to Buddhahood, Wukong rebelled once again, this time the Bull joined the Celestial Court to put Wukong down shown at 4:35 and 9:25. The Bull finally saw what Wukong had in mind, and heeded Wukong's last words, he stayed away from Wukong's relic and was spared, his son on the other hand was slain. Also when Wukong mentioned how the Bull never made a good choice as shown at 5:20, he was referring to the following: initially, the Bull rebelled against the Celestial Court but lost, that was bad choice #1; and then when Wukong passed through the Flaming Mountain in JTTW, the Bull could have just handed the fan to Wukong, but the Bull chose to resist, bad choice #2 which cost the Bull dearly; in this game, the Bull joined the Celestial Court to put the rebelling Wukong, only to find out about Wukong's thoughts afterward, bad choice #3. This is very convoluted even if you have read JTTW. It was a deeply tragic story showing that it didn't matter what the Bull chose to do, he was nothing more than a pawn to the greater powers, and he couldn't even preserve his own family, regardless of his immense power. Love your videos as always and I'm glad you're enjoying the game!
There is a good movie called Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms where you can find Nezha and Erlang when they got their first mission to serve the Celestial Court.
This animation ending of chapter 5, will make a bit more sense after you beat the secret boss and obtain the true ending. There’s a lot of timeline jumps in these cutscenes which does make it frustrating to follow but when you get the whole story and the “hidden plot”… it’s seriously super epic and tragic. Play on and find out. You’re not far from the end. But be sure to fight the “secret boss” before the final boss of chapter 6. The storytelling element of this game is truly visionary and sublime. No matter how many times Ive rewatched the cutscenes, I still tear up and get goosebumps. What a brilliant masterpiece.
The video shows three stages: 1.First stage:Wukong challenged the court, bull is his sword brother, they fought together. Finally Wukong failed and be punished as prisoner under the mountain for 500years 2.Wulong were free from the mountain to serve Tang monk and protect him to the west to the Buddha, this journey passed bull king’s field, it was a firing mountain, they need the fan to clear the fire. Wukong tried every means necessary to get the fan, and unfortunately bull’s son was sent to Avalokitesvara, bull king’s concubine was killed by Bajie, the bull king were forced to accept all of this. (Bull king have many lives, but he was killed many times by Neza from the court, finally he was scared and gave in) 3. After sending Tang monk to the west, Wukong became Buddha too, but he realized the dark political situation no matter in the west Buddha world or the east heaven court, he gave up the Buddha title and went back to his field, the Huaguo mountain. Then the west Buddha world and east haven court joint to wipe him out, summoned black bear, yellow brow, yellow rat, hundred eyes and the bull king to fight together with the court’s troop, and finally destroyed Wukong and his mountain. Till then, the bull king understood the reason for all Wukong has done.
The official continuation of the story. The game originally designed more than a dozen plots and bosses, but due to time constraints, only a few were included. They may be added through updates later.
I'm glad you reacted as you did to the story. It is amazing. The narrative of Black Myth Wukong can be confusing for people without a native understanding of the characters and the cultural background. Let me try to help. So you are kind of supposed to know who these characters are. Prince Nezha and his father, King Li Jing, along with Yan Jian/Erlang Shen are deities in the Chinese Pantheon that are still being worshipped today. The tales of their exploits and ascension to godhood are captured in one of Journey to the West's contemporaries, in the story "The Investiture of the Gods" aka "Fengshen Bang". Prince Nezha is a very popular character, and serves as inspiration for the classic young, brash, hotheaded and fiery protagonist archetype we see in many Eastern fiction, including those of Japanese anime. It is very exciting because word from China, is that Game Science has trademarked a Black Myth : Jiang Ziya, one of the main characters in Fengshen Bang. Jiang Ziya is like Gandalf, to Nezha and Erlang's Legolas and Aragorn.
Outcome 1 Journey to the West Woo Kong sided celestial court Woo Kong betrayed Bull King Bull King ... died Outcome 2 Black Myth Woo Kong Bull King sided celestial court Bull King betrayed Woo Kong Woo King ... dead
Nezha hated his father Li Jing the most. The tower in his father's hand was specially used to beat him. As long as Li Jing's tower is not in hand, Nezha will kill his father immediately. So you see in the animation, Nezha rushes out first, and then Li Jing dares to throw him out of the tower.
@@jianweiluo5985 Whenever you see a kid-like deity stand on two roller (fire and wind roller) which is his signature item, that's Nezha. Same as whenever you see a middle age general with a pagoda model on his hand, that's Li jing, Nezha birth father. Their signature trait are just as easily recognisable as Erlang third eye.
In early years, Sun Wukong formed a brotherhood with six guai kings. The Bull King was the eldest, and Wukong was the youngest. In the battle with the Bull in Journey to the West, Wukong summoned over 20 mid-level gods to besiege the bull, including Yin tiger, Xu dog etc.. They had the upper hand but couldn't completely defeat him. So Wukong had to ask for upper level gods to help. At last Li Jing and Nezha together captured the bull, led him to the west and pay allegiance to the budda. That's why in this game the bull also participated in crusading wukong with other guai kings that have submited to budda.
99% of Chinese people have seen the 86th version of TV series, but 99% of Chinese have not seen the original book. The original book is already very dark and is a satirical novel under feudal rule.Compared with TV series, this game is closer to the original work.
which part? the original story was insinuating and being sarcastic about the heavenly palace, but it was only focused on the that fact that the heavenly palace not doing their job properly. It never suggested that the gods were captive breeding yaoguais and feeding the yaoguais with human. The main bad guys were still yaoguais in the original story.
@@sy19890515 The main "bad guys" were always the "Buddhas", as majority of the yaoguais were setup by the buddhas to test The Tang Monk and his disciples with 81 trials. Yaoguais who got "connections" were all eventually saved by their masters or other buddhas. Yaogauis with no connections were killed by Wukong. It sarcastically reflects the society whether it was hundreds or thousands of years ago or nowadays, that criminals with no connections will always draw the short stick!!!
@@sy19890515 Some modern analysis of the original book proposed the possibility that it was actually a dark story. Though not always correct, but it is entertaining to read.
08:25 He is called Nezha(哪吒), as famous as Wukong in Chinese traditional mythology. He looks like a perpetual 10 year-old boy with a story of rebellion against heaven too. I really hope that Nezha can appear in the DLC, or the Black Myth will release a main game for him.
Many do not know that bull king is actually more powerful than wukong hence wukong asked Nezha (flaming god kid) to help subdue bull king. Nezha cut off bull king’s head multiple times but he still alive.
I’ll try to explain- SPOILERS!!!! TLDR version is, wukong and the ox use to be like brothers who both fought the celestial palace, then wukong got captured by Buddha and started the journey to the west and then he fought the ox again and that was the journey to the west story, black myth wukong added the last part where ox and other bosses helped erlang killed wukong
Although the relationship between the brothers is not good, Wukong always wants to help the Bull Demon King's family, but unfortunately, Bull Demon King always makes wrong judgments and choices every time.
The characters‘ fates are toyed by the higher level of powers. They (including the bosses) are resisting this supression by their own ways. Will they find their redemption? This is what the game wanta to express. After all there is no DEMOCRACY in Black Myth world and you don't elect GODs.
Time line jumping tips: 4:30 The beginning of the Game - Wukong was killed by group of them with Erlang. 5:30 early part of original ‘Journey to the West’ - Wukong and BullKing fight people from Celestial Court 6:14 middle part of original ‘Journey to the West’ - during the Journey to the West, Wukong protecting TangSeng to go to Buddha. Defeated BullKing with help from Celestial Court. There are some addition Game Science added about the BullKing's family 9:16 The beginning of the Game - Wukong was killed by group of them with Erlang.
The scenarios in the cartoon is not in the time sequence so it might be confusing. The BULL in shattered armor is the one after Wukong's showdown battle. All the scenes are his memory and illusions. The BULL and Wukong were once brothers, fighting the celestrial court and got punished respectively. They parted their pathes and experience much, even including confront each other, until the final showdown. By the way, The BULL have the spell of regeneration including head so he didn't die from the cut. The celestrial court army was sent to help Wukong when he protected his master for the west journey. It is kind of a cooperational mission between the Buddas and the court. The BULL stood in Wukong's way actively for their feud caused by his naughty child.
every bad choice that the bull king had made was actually made for someone he cared. To fight against the celestial court with his brother, to accept the yasha blood as his son for his wife, to fight against his brother (twice) to protect his family, to hide the relics because that was his will, to prison his son was to protect him. He had done everything he could but failed every time. That was the saddest part in the bull king’s story.
Ne-Zhe the Third Prince, one with the Hot wheels(no, not the toy car brand), is actually the one who had a rebellion fate before Wukong had his. It’s very ironic he took down those who opposed the celestial court, because himself had the same encounter before he became a deity.
It is just an inferior fan which can blow off big fire only. Superior fans that can directly destroy human, shenxian and yaoguai on both body and soul are held by Taishanglaojun in heaven.
It will not become the game of the year because political correctness does not allow it, and even player votes can be freely modified, making it an award without authority. 20 million sales in the first month are enough to demonstrate the quality of the game.
@@imliaier2231 I guess is to take controls of all games in order to brainwashing us younger human, for some purpose in future (I don't believe it was for good purpose).
The Flamming Mountain starts burning when WK overturn Taisan Laojun Eight Diagram Brazier while stealing his immortal pills and an ember drop from the heavens. Cause and causation
In fact, from us Chinese perspective, Nezha, Erlang and Wukong are 3 rebels to the celestial court. Nezha once had conflicts with the East Sea Loong King, got punished and killed by celestial court through his own father’s hand (in animation the character besides Nezha) (His father wanted him dead so he carved out his own flesh). Then after his death his father destroyed his body and temple. Nezha’s master resurrected him with another body made from lotus root. The first thing Nezha wanted to do after his resurrection was to seek revenge to his father and celestial court. So he is definitely not a killing machine for the celestial court. In our saying, Nezha is publicly a rebel, Erlang is secretly a rebel, and Wukong rebels whenever he feels like it😂. (天庭三大反骨仔,哪吒明着反,杨戬暗着反,孙悟空随时反). So hopefully in DLC, we will see Nezha, Erlang and the Destined One fight together, against the celestial court.
Oh by the way that killer-ass-looking lad at 8:24? That was Ne Zha/哪吒, yet another symbol of rebellion and pursuit of freedom in classical Chinese literature. I hope we get to see them in the DLC or a future installment, their story is also metal af just like Wukong's (Ne Zha is genderless).
This is the best story created by this game. I can't tell how true it is in representing the real life. Despite how powerful the bull king was, he can't save Yaoguai relem with Wukong. He can't protect his family in the Journey to the west. He can't keep his sware brother alive while been instructed to kill him, and he can't keep his son in law alive when the detained one come. From his last two meows is so ironic sad about his destiny and so ironic true to majority of people in real life.
for monsters like Wukong or Bull King, their life is nothing, expect they follow a big boss, wukong know it and tell Bull king dont made mistake, but he never choose right
I think other comments have provided great information for this chapter already but I want to fill in some more infos that might help you understand the sad state of the Bull King's family. Also some infos from the comment will be answered in the last chapter and the fight with Erlang Shen (which was not the bad guy) :D According to what I learned recently, the story was written to reflect the circumstance of China back in the day where there are emperors and such. So the king back then was referred as Celestial Emperor or Celestial's child, which indicates his underlings and the system serving him was like Celestial Court, their decisions are like God's will and they have used that to bring absolute force to the citizen. (You can see this in Di Renjie or Chinese movies as such) Which is why, you may feel like the Celestial Court is the bad people in this story. The Bull, in my opinion, represents the citizen, mainly the man who was strong, family-loving, hard-working farmers (they used bull for farming). Then there is Wukong, which is symbol of a energetic, powerful, seeking freedom, see the truth behind the act of the time,... he fought Bull King and became brothers. Wukong showed Bull King the wrong of the government and encourage him to stand against the Celestial Court (First wrong choice of Bull King to lead to his own sad fate) but they failed due to sheer number and power of the Court (the gods and Erlang Shen of such). Wukong got disciplined by Buddha (Buddha here represents the power of a powerful religious figure and the Celestial Court's power), Bull King returned to his mountain with his wife. About Rakshasi (represents the loving mother and in the story, she was a Yaksha), she and the Yin Yang dude was disciple of a Taoist master, Laozi (represents people of another religious group that have conflicts with Buddhism), they were once serve on the Celestial Court as people who take care of Laozi's Eight Trigrams Brazier but due to Wukong's crashing Brazier 500 years earlier (which create the Flaming Mountain in the journey to the West which Wukong and Tangmonk encounter), the Yin yang dude got descended and Rakshasi followed him (They liked each other). Their master arranged the marriage of Rakshasi and Bull King, implies that Laozi can't change the system but maybe his disciple can by standing beside the strongest yaoguai. After Bull King's defeat, Laozi forced Rakshasi to bear a child (which was the resurrected Yaksha King to maybe fight the system) and inject a Lotus within the womb. Eventhough she never wanted that child, she love him like her own, she and Bull kept this child away because they knew fighting the Court will be in vain. In the Journey, when Tangmonk and Wukong arrived at Flaming mountain, rather than solving the problem on their own, Wukong asked for help which lead to Rakshasi's fan (1 swing to stop the fire, 2 swings to call the wind, 3 swings to call rain). But before that, Wukong sent Red Boy away to Buddha, which fails Laozi's plan and enraged her in the Journey to the West so she declined giving Wukong the fan. Then Wukong used the hard way to get the fan from her (get inside her belly and damaged her organs) and she gave him a fake one that makes the fire burn harder (Almost kill him). So Wukong disguised as Bull King (at this time he left Rakshasi to be with Princess Jade Face - the fox yaguai that Bajie killed) to get the fan (Successfully). Then the real Bull King got home, heard the messed up situation from Rakshasi. He disguised as Bajie to get the fan back and fought Wukong (second wrong choice), but his friends showed up to ask Bull King for a drink and Bull king forgive WK and go had some drinks with his friends. Still can't go pass the Flaming mountain, Wukong asked Celestial Court for help which they sent a WHOLE army to subdue Bull King and Rakshasi (consist of Nezha with his father and other gods - you can see that in the painted picture at the end). Forced Rakshasi to give WK the real fan. After wipe the flame, WK gave Rakshasi's fan back and continue his journey. ==> So Rakshasi and Bull King did nothing wrong here, the mess WK made made them suffered because they have some cool treasures. There's still some more details about why Rakshasi talk about the citizen near there gave her offerings to wipe the flame and the red yaksha guards but it's could be too long here. After WK's defeat, he planned another way for him and his friends to escape from the Court's forces by becoming Buddha but this plan failed because they tried to kill his children which leads to his second fight with the Court but this time the Court recruit other yaguais to help, include Bull King (Third wrong choice). Erlang Shen then gave five strongest yaoguais Wukong's senses (~ his remains). Bull King then returned to his mountain. Red Boy after got disciplined, he returned which knowledge of origin but he was angry towards Bull King because of the submission of Bull King to the Court. So Red Boy asked Bull King to give him the relic (WK's remain) to become stronger and take revenge on the Court for his own people. Knowing Bull King had a child with Princess Jade Face - PingPing - he hide her and stole her look to fool the destined one but his plan failed as you can see in the game. Also after Rakshasi knew about the Destined One arrival, she go beg for help from other yakshas and celestial beings but none assisted and laughed at her, yet she still beg for mercy for Red Boy. Last thing is Bull King's fourth wrong choice was falling to Red Boy's trick and hastly gave Destined One the relice too early (explains the quote at the painted picture).
The game is adapted from a novel, which tells the story of Wukong after he learned the scriptures. Due to the problem of game development time, the game plot is incomplete, and the plot seems to be broken in many places.
there is also a bit of a lost in translation towards the end. the name "Wukong" and "Wunang" (disciple name of bajie) have their own meanings. the chinese narrator at the end actually asks "Next time, if you do not have "Wunang/悟能" (both the name of bajie, and also meaning "to understand/be enlighten to (悟) discipline (能)) can you still "Wukong/悟空"?" Here thus you can see "悟空" was used as reaching of a state, as opposed to referring to a state of being as opposed to a name of the character (fulfill as Wukong). So what does Wukong/悟空 mean? Its to understand/be enlightened to the ultimate meaning of Void/Empitness of things/being/universe. So really what the game is asking is of us: will we understand the ultimate meaning? Will WE reach enlightenment? that's my interpretation anyways, but just hope to give my two cents as i noticed the difference in syntax/translation between the English (using Wukong and BaJie as names) vs. the Chinese (using 悟空/悟能 without pointing to them as names, thus open (if not hinting) at the further interpretation). Cheers guys!

BM Wukong has such good storylines! It continues from a popular interpretation of the original Journey to the West. Heaven is a simile of the Imperial Chinese government. Here, Wukong, the Bull King, and even Erlang are pawns in Heaven's games of power. Heaven's realpolitik has no room for sentiments of loyalty, kinship or past merit -- it plays the pawns to protect itself and advance its own best self-interests. Interestingly, Gautama Buddha was familiar with these political games when he was prince and this partially motivated his search for the truth. The Journey to the West is the quest in hope that the Western Buddhist scriptures will be the solution to transcend and escape these games. The quest is futile however, the world of today still plays these games of power.
Basically, all the kings you face in the game are the people that fought alongside Wukong against the celestial court. They are all cursed and punished for doing so by the celestial court. You see, Wukong was a monkey that pursued immortality, selfish and greedy. However, the celestial court did grant him the power of budda but lied to him about his title in the heavens. The celestial court didn't trust Wukong so they put a crown on him to where if he ever betrayed them he would lose his power. However, Wukong had a drastic change of heart in his journey in the west and he didn't betray the celestial court as he was planning. As a reward, the celestial court removed his crown and gave him an actual rank within the celestial court. Once again it was a deception, for they only made the crown invisible but never removed it. Also, his title in the celestial court was also a deception. Wukong got pissed off and challenged the celestial court with his friends and lost. But every time he dies, he gets resurrected and his friend's live for centuries so they do remember him each resurrection. Wukong made a plan to end his immortality and finally remove the crown, which is the opening scene. The person that kills him agreed to Wukongs plan, they were not actually enemies. So when Wukong died, all his memories were not resurrected with him. This gives each new Wukong his own choice, and he can choose peace and freedom, which is really all Wukong was fighting for to begin with. He wanted nothing to do with the celestial court but they wouldn't stop bothering him and his friends. This entire game story is all about setting himself and his friend's free. At least that's my take on it.
WuKong cannot die, but was, is and will be reincarnated. The journey to the west is about making choices, whether submit to those above, or not, if one wants to live. And it turns out their fates are not their own to make. It is those above to decide you live or die, and more, they choose you live or die at their own conveniences. Like the story of Red Child. His entire life is a result of power play between Gods and Buddhas of East and West. Wukong's journey is a living hell. So at the opening, he is fighting the entire celestial court army. Like 2pac said, "me against the world". to break this insufferable chain.
Other than the choice he made to team up with either Wukong or the celestial court, he's also chosen to not "find a master, serve the right". Rakshasi is a disciple of Lord Daozi (Taishang Laojun), and he ordered her to bare Yaksha's child. This is because the buddhas committed genocide against the yaksha clan, and the celestial court wants to preserve the yaksha blood line to be used against the buddhas one day. This is a conflict of religion because the celestial court represents the Daoism and they are obviously unhappy about the buddhas spreading their religion through the act of journey to the west. The buddhas are supposed to be all loving and shit, but they committed a lot of crimes behind the scene just so that they can be the savior. Supply and demand. You can also see this in the lore of the second chapter. So the saddest part is that one of bull king's biggest "wrong choice" is to not serve Lord Daozi as his master (since he has the connection via Rakshasi), but it wouldn't have worked anyway because we see where that gets you in chapter 4. Hundred-eyed served a master from the celestial court, but no one comes to save him at his dying moment. Because after all, they are all just pawns of the above.
Hi java, In the anime, there is a boy called Nezha(哪吒) in chinese with two wheels under his feet. He is also one of the yaoguai, and I think he may appear in the DLC of the Black Myth Wukong.exciting🎉🎉❤❤
This game was such a roller coaster ride. You feel happy beating certain bosses... yet you read the lore, it's always tragic.
Most mythology when it comes to the gods, always ends in tragedy. The whole fate written in stone and the power plays and paranoia.

Dawg i was about to say that, beside the epic gameplay, this game give us romance on the story side
This game is deep
@@elijahbaker781the original story is one of the masterpiece of all human history.
This summarises it really well. (But separating it into paragraphs would have helped!)
Arlong => Erlang, Arlong in Chinese means loan shark😂
@@davidw.2467 Haha probably I was thinking of Arlong from One Piece. Fixed it now. 😄
@@noroiko7996 Ok I edited it.
there's no buddha in the celestial court man.. a buddha does not work for anyone, a buddha might intervene only when it's a necessity.. like when sun wukong wrecked the heavenly court.. a buddha though, might offer consultation, or pointers to those who seeks the path.. like tathagatha buddha helping sun wukong when they met six eared macaque..
guanyin (black bear's master), lingji (the headless monk), and maitreya (the buddha boy) are bodhisatvas.. they are not yet a buddha in the story.
if the prevailing speculation about the plot is right, then BMW might just get banned in china lol.. buddhism is still one of major religion with 520 million worshipers.. i don't think that the devs would be so bold to say that "buddhism is misleading people" by making a story where wukong who reached buddhahood was misled.. i thought china protects religion and not allowing criticism to religious believes and practices between believers or non believers.. though i don't know for sure, but i want to believe that the devs will make some surprise plot twist in the upcoming DLCs..
my speculation is that the intro wasn't wukong but six-eared macaque or the manifestation of wukong's six sense.. meaning that wukong did ascend to nirvana and he left behind his last attachment to the realm of the living which is his OP immortal body (his six senses).. six-eared macaque was exactly that.. a manifestation of wukong's six senses, not a monkey with six ears.. six eared macaque came back to live in wukong's body and got wrecked by erlang.. this also mean, that for sure.. the last boss in the BM wukong would be the victorious fighting buddha aka the real sun wukong.. he will intervene after the destined one beat the entire heavenly court.. just like how buddha did in the JTTW.. that means, there will be an appearance of lijing and nezha.. in the DLC..

The Bull King listened and has been always hide the relic in his stomach, so that he can protect it from someone like the Red Boy who wants to consume Wukong's power for himself.
ur words most,ill buy it。😂
One correction, the Bull King wasn't killed.

Happy to see you enjoying this game as much as I have, it's so good, so deep. If it doesn't win GOTY then I will rage.
In ancient Chinese mythology the two headed pig is called "Bingfeng" representing the conflicts and struggles in our hearts, just like the bullking who used to be monkeyking Wukong's brother fight with him against him in different situations.
The one with the flaming wheel is Li Jing's third son: Nezha. Li Jing is the one holding the pagoda.
BGM:“不由己” “ I can't help myself” The dilemma of the king of the bull
I believe in the English version the song is called "Destiny"
不由己 = not up to yourself , which you have to flow with the fate either goes good or bad

List of 'wrong choice' made by Bull King:
Fun fact, Bull King was decap*tated several times by Nezha (Bull King has regenerative ability) that's why he's "not dead" after the decap*tation scene
3. Bull King neglect his family throughout the Journey of the west book
4. (Black myth game era) Bull King side with celestial court to stop Wukong as seen on the prelude of the game
Finally realising after Wukong's death, all of his life choices from early life with his sworn brother Wukong to rebel till his death (allegedly) has always been the bad choice
Very deep story
Trust and friendship between brothers!
The video shows three stages:
1.First stage:Wukong challenged the court, bull is his sword brother, they fought together. Finally Wukong failed and be punished as prisoner under the mountain for 500years
2.Wulong were free from the mountain to serve Tang monk and protect him to the west to the Buddha, this journey passed bull king’s field, it was a firing mountain, they need the fan to clear the fire. Wukong tried every means necessary to get the fan, and unfortunately bull’s son was sent to Avalokitesvara, bull king’s concubine was killed by Bajie, the bull king were forced to accept all of this. (Bull king have many lives, but he was killed many times by Neza from the court, finally he was scared and gave in)

In the battle with the Bull in Journey to the West, Wukong summoned over 20 mid-level gods to besiege the bull, including Yin tiger, Xu dog etc..
Game of the year!
That animation plays its story on rewind. It starts at the finish line and races back to the starting point
Nezha is BAD ASS. He is another legend with super rich life story. I hope the next one can be black myth Nezha
love your reactions,pls keep going
Thx for sharing! Really enjoy it
The characters‘ fates are toyed by the higher level of powers. They (including the bosses) are resisting this supression by their own ways. Will they find their redemption? This is what the game wanta to express. After all there is no DEMOCRACY in Black Myth world and you don't elect GODs.
Time line jumping tips:
4:30 The beginning of the Game - Wukong was killed by group of them with Erlang.
5:30 early part of original ‘Journey to the West’ - Wukong and BullKing fight people from Celestial Court
6:14 middle part of original ‘Journey to the West’ - during the Journey to the West, Wukong protecting TangSeng to go to Buddha. Defeated BullKing with help from Celestial Court. There are some addition Game Science added about the BullKing's family
9:16 The beginning of the Game - Wukong was killed by group of them with Erlang.
A Game that have you in the feels...
Huh, she definitely watched this ending already more than once.

“ you can have his body” that came from Erlang the sacred divinity, I think
Ne-Zhe the Third Prince, one with the Hot wheels(no, not the toy car brand), is actually the one who had a rebellion fate before Wukong had his.
It’s very ironic he took down those who opposed the celestial court, because himself had the same encounter before he became a deity.
It is just an inferior fan which can blow off big fire only. Superior fans that can directly destroy human, shenxian and yaoguai on both body and soul are held by Taishanglaojun in heaven.
西遊記的原作者吳承恩寫這部作品就是在諷刺官場的黑暗,還諷刺佛家、道家的作為,所以作為基於西遊記的做出來遊戲,你會看到非常多的悲劇

This game has to be the game of the year no ??? Yes 😢 if not will be disappointing.
It will not become the game of the year because political correctness does not allow it, and even player votes can be freely modified, making it an award without authority. 20 million sales in the first month are enough to demonstrate the quality of the game.
IGN will not allow it to happen

The Flamming Mountain starts burning when WK overturn Taisan Laojun Eight Diagram Brazier while stealing his immortal pills and an ember drop from the heavens. Cause and causation
In the original story, the Bull King can regain his head, so he will not dead from losing his head.
Hope we get to fight and see neza in the dlc
Oh by the way that killer-ass-looking lad at 8:24? That was Ne Zha/哪吒, yet another symbol of rebellion and pursuit of freedom in classical Chinese literature. I hope we get to see them in the DLC or a future installment, their story is also metal af just like Wukong's (Ne Zha is genderless).

I strongly recommend you to watch a movie call Nezha from year 2020. It is one of the best animated movie I’ve watched!❤
Also some infos from the comment will be answered in the last chapter and the fight with Erlang Shen (which was not the bad guy) :D
According to what I learned recently, the story was written to reflect the circumstance of China back in the day where there are emperors and such.
That was definitely intense.
After that cut scene I felt so bad for wooping him first try😭
Bull king is his brother, another brother killed Bull King’s lover, a fox. Wu Kong made Bull King’s son Red Boy left his mother, the fan owner.
Wow love
This scene is more touching if you understand the song.

Cheers guys!
no the bull king son rebel and the heaven army was send to deal with it. together with wukong. he know bull king can not win. it was a betray to safe his family.

Legend of Airbender vibe
Bull king always made wrong decision. Poor thing.
not up to him. and that also happen to be the name of the BGM song
The lyric of the background song "destiny" is soooooooo sad
