A famine is unfolding in Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians have resorted to consuming animal feed amid soaring prices and dwindling supplies of food. The United Nations has already begun reporting deaths from starvation and malnutrition, while aid agencies have been forced to pause deliveries. "Israel is not allowing food into the northern part of Gaza so people would regret not having left," says Palestinian writer Mosab Abu Toha, who fled Gaza for Cairo in November and has been attempting since then to secure safe passage for his extended family members, including his sister-in-life who has just given birth. He writes about his experiences in a New Yorker piece, "My Family's Daily Struggle to Find Food in Gaza." Abu Toha urges international actors to take action and end Israel's siege of Gaza. "They are killing us every day," he says. "Where is the mind of the people in the world? How could you let this happen?"

I had a realization last that my dog is eating better than the poor souls in Gaza. As I made his food I cook it for him it hit me and I began to cry. Every time something goes bad in my fridge I feel guilty knowing they are starving #💔#😭

Months ago there was a little boy who looked like he had been pulled out of the rubble, and he was talking to a man who might have been a rescuer or a doctor, but the boy could not stop crying. He was alone. He could be a picture of PTSD. I wanted to help him, and at the same time I remembered Oct 7 and the hostages. I hope the little boy got help. He was in shock and helpless. It hurts. I sit here in America, and I don't have everything I want, but I have what I need, for now. I would take that little boy in, but how could I. I would also take in hungry American children if I could. It hurts. It hurts.
