- These S chassis cars are such good candidates for just about ANY type of racing! On top of that, we have seen a lot of different engines in these things. We showed up at Streetcar Takeover Indy to find two beautiful examples of just that. One S14 has a Toyota 2JZ from a Supra and the other featuring the native Nissan SR20DET found in the Nissan Silvia putting down a whopping 900hp through a dog box! Surprisingly, the SR20 240 is the quicker one…but for good reason!

there is a sr powered 6 sec 1/4 datsun. So yes its a good engine. Probably the best 4 cylinder engine.

That 900 or whatever hp SR20 S14 was the SHITT! Dude was banging gears and still getting it down the track under 9 seconds! You are a man's-man to be banging gears on anything lower than a 10 second car in my opinion.. Its just SO fucking easy to do 8's on a auto-trans 2JZ single turbo (given you have the hp, all you have to do is get a good launch.. the rest is auto).. On the manual, not only are you trying to keep that SR20 spooled.. but once its spooled it will want to rip the tires off that thing in every gear probably! I MUST learn more about that SR20 powered S14!

The VE head on the SR makes a huge difference.
what does the VE come in standard?
+Brad Icenhour Nissan primera, bluebird, and wingroad. vet came in only x-trail. unfortunately not in America :( eBay has them :D
SR20VE or SR16VE. Honda killers. It's a Nissan valve timing. Came on some of the horizontal mounted cars. The Nissan X-Trail has a 280hp turbo version. The head flows better then a DET. Check out Mazworx.com. They have swap kits for the DET engine.

jolmeaki thanks! I've been a fan of honda as far as reliability goes but they are notorious dyno queens. The sr20 would be my choice as far as a performance 4 cylinder

Depends where you live out here in Cali it's as low as 20 bucks to run at Fontana in whatever you got pretty much.

I think it's hilarious when someone gets a Nissan or a ford and put a 2jz in it. You know Toyota is so good that they will put it in anything. Hard to kill one and so much power can be put to it. Lol
It's because a 2j can push over 1000hp on stock internals as well as a stock trans.

I'm a big Honda guy but even bigger Toyota guy just because of how impressive the company can make every car so reliable

2J is much cheaper and can arguably make more power
+David Stewart may take a little more money to make the power but an rb30 can make the same power as a 2jz

There's no such thing as an RB30. And a 2j is basically an RB but can output more power with bolt ons. They're both inline 6's.
I'm guessing you were referring to the 3.0 liter engine found in old Nissan pick-ups? They have decent torque but they're heavy and not made for performance.
