Richie was the sound of summer Gawd I miss the days of Benaud, Greig and Lawry. I’m so glad I grew up listening to those legends.Summer will never be quite the same for me
Richie was the commentator i most learnt from on tv when a boy in the mid 70's in the UK. He explained the rules, tactics and strategies. Thank you sir.
I grew up listening to his cricket commentary. Always full of life and humour in his commentary that made me stuck to tv. The greatest commentator who ever lived.
In my opinion, Richie and Mike Atherton were the best commentating duo on televised matches (Channel 4) here in the UK. Richie was a Cricketer, Gentleman and a credit to Australia.
Richie Benaud, Bill Lawry, Mark Nicholas, Tony Greg, Ian Healy, Michael Slater are my favorite commentators. Just Love Aussie Summer Season of CHANNEL 9
Never seen this before and its sad viewing. He does indeed look like he's had a rough year. His brilliant commentary was very much part of the summer growing up in the UK - much missed but happy memories. RIP.
I loved Richie. He was thee voice of cricket for me growing up. If a test match was on telly Richie's voice was there and he helped me fall in love with the sport.
I grew up listening to Richie during the summer and there was something about his soothing voice…it made me appreciate cricket more so but it cemented the love i have for the game…
What a beautiful man he was! Richie benaud and Ian Chappell are my all time fav commentators. The world is not the same without Richie Benaud and Shane Warne 😢.
For me Richie was the voice of cricket When he spoke you listened he knew when to talk and when not to talk . He always had the right word for the right occasion. You knew summer had arrived when you heard his dulcid tones. I think cricket fans all over the world loved his commentaries
Richie talked like the great Urdu poet, Mir Taqi Mir. His 'rough-ish' comment is basically adapted from one of the Mir's couplet's words; 'pakhiri ghulab si' and it's still one of the most bamboozling lines for the critics of Urdu literature to date as Mir is not likening his lover's lips to rose petals exactly instead he's likening it to something which is like rose petals. This 'si' of Mir is a remarkable stroke of genius.
We all loved this man as a commentator, but his contribution to Aussie cricket- the aggressive style of play - was immense. And a lovely bloke into the bargain.
Yep, Mark oversaw and commentated when Cricket was last on terrestrial TV (Channel 4) in the UK. Ritchie and Mark were awesome doing the end of session and stumps summaries. Sadly missed son of Australia.

Couldn't get his spirit though, amazing him to see him talk about it like he would about any of his cricket stories. True professional, right till the end.
Even while he was ill, he spoke with such fluency and beauty, RIP
