The main problem with these puzzles, in my opinion, is their complete lack of sensible replayability. If you enjoy playing Gwent (or some variant of it), they do not offer any new, variable challenge upon replaying the game. I really enjoy these puzzles but I also expected something different from the game and can see how they might get on my nerves on a new playthrough. (I know this is a late reply; just started playing the game...)

You should check out Sorcery! Complete Collection. It's like Thronebreaker but 10 times better. Not a card game though. Similar. Also one of the best choose your own adventure games ever made.

Why was there pretty much no marketing at all for this game.
There have been plenty I've seen it everywhere on news sites, youtube comercials and user contenr. They even paid a lot of streamers to play it.
