I love Spade’s off-the-cuff humor. The show didn’t get much traction and was derailed with Covid, but I always looked forward to new episodes of his talk show, Light’s Out.

Seeing as there’s no comments on this I just want to be the first to say David Spade is the man. I know people always talk about Farley, but David Spade is hilarious.

At the time, everyone called the show TERRIBLE. It wasn't at all. At one point the writers and lineup included David Spade, Sandler, Chris Rock, Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, Mike Meyers, Conan Obrien, Bob Odenkirk, Robert Smigel, Dana Carvey and Dennis Miller.
I mean, the only "real" bad era for SNL was when Lorne was gone...but Eddie Murphy kept the show alive during that time. So there's always been some brightness somewhere, although I think the past half dozen years have not be a high water mark, with a few exceptions (Weekend Update, and some of the women performers like Aidy, Kate, and Cecily). A lot of the political stuff has been pretty awful, nowhere near as funny as the Clinton SNL humor of the 90s, and I do think the performers are a significant part of that. We're not seeing Sandler and especially Chris Farley types nowadays. And Norm MacDonald types are impossible 😂
Season 20 of SNL is legitimately bad. I mean, there's good stuff there, and every season has good stuff and bad stuff---SNL is nothing if not consistently inconsistent. But there are a few episodes of S20 that are all-time bottom-of-the-barrel episodes: Sarah Jessica Parker, Deion Sanders, Paul Reiser, George Foreman, and maybe a few others. The show needed a housecleaning and they got it, which saved Lorne's job.
I notice that he does that too. You're right though John, he has a bad back. But I think he's also self conscious about his height and in some chairs/couches his feet barely touch the floor, so he just puts them in the seat with him.

it's too bad his spinoff show from 7th HEAVEN neve went through... he was gonna be the no-good brother of Rev. Camden, CHIP CAMDEN, who wins a hotel/casino in a high-stakes poker game. that show had so much potential, esp. when he hired his nephews Sam and David as inept handymen had huge potential!
