I lived in Appalachian Virginia for a few years when I was younger and when I'm around Southerners for just an hour or two I start going back to a Southern accent. No it’s not, there are so many different kinds of southern accents. Alabama sounds different then Tennessee or Kentucky or Texas etc.

I spent a week in Louisiana for work and picked up an accent in a few days. Accent hung around for a week after I got back to the northern midwest. It was weird.
