- Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel. Today we're looking at the Labidochromis caeruleus, commonly know as the yellow lab cichlid. I just picked up 11 of these last night. I’ll be adding a few more in a couple of weeks for a fantastic species only tank. I popped the light on this morning for a peak and saw tiny little yellow heads peaking out of the rocks. 😊
My 5 inch male just died 😒 he was the best tank boss. He would break up fights all the time and keep the peace with many other bigger male cichlids. He was my best water puppy.

I got 1 male yellow and 1 dark blue female and put them in my community tank. At first, my fully grown male molly that is twice the size was bullying the yellow but within 2 days, the cichlid showed him who's boss and they now leave each other alone
Overall...I agree they are the best too. So compatible with everything, colour unmatched, won't outgrow your tank, cheap and easy to find.

Beautiful fish. Love keeping them with electric blue haps. Both are mild mannered and the colors are amazing on both.

Just cleared out a 75 to upgrade my Jaguar to a 210. Thinking about doing some yellow labs. Would i better off doing a Lab only tank or adding some Yellow Tail Aceis as well. Sorry new to African Cichlids have always been a Central American keeper.
Yellow Tail Acei would go great with Yellow Labs. But in a 75g they might be a bit cramped once full grown. I'm also a fan of White Tail Acei, though they aren't quite as popular.

Hi, I have one of those that I rescued, they vacated the aquarium of my building and he was so small that he was left in a corner with a little water, a few days later I saw that something was moving and I rescued him, I have him in my house and now he is big, I wanted to buy him another fish (only one) to accompany him, but I don't know if it's good since it's always been alone and I don't know which one is compatible with it.
I have always left the water normal (cold), I have never put a heater on it, I do not understand much about that. I would give you some advice as to which fish is compatible with it and about the temperature of its water. Thank you.

I keep 4 stripped Angel fish, 2 yellow Cichlids, 6 mysterious snails, 2 stripped Raphael catfish's and 3 kuhli loaches all doing awesome ❤
Would 2 yellow lab cichlids be ok in a 20 gallon tank?
what other cichlids can be tank mates with these? I'm sure electric blue acara is one of the options? but I want to know other ones

I've got one of these and he really is awesome. I got Stevie almost a year ago and the employee at Petco told me he would do well with a bumblebee cichlid. I put them both in the tank while they were babies. So, Stevie bullied the bumblebee cichlid for 3 weeks and now Stevie lives alone.

Can you mix electric blue with these?
I have little to no experience owning fish and yesterday my mom brought home two electric cichlids because the aquarium at her workplace broke. Since it was not planned for us to get fish I dont even own the basics. Basically im looking for low a budget aquarium setup to begin with and advice regarding pH and water conditions.Actually this morning one of them died propably because of the shock or change in water??

I kept a firemouth cichlid. I think you can argue it has similar advantages.

What do you feed them? I noticed they hardly eat. They won't even try tropical flakes, they spit out Cichlid pellets, not even the freeze dried bloodworms. I bought a couple of this Yellow Lab about 5 inch and 4 inch long, the bigger one is bullying the other so had to separate the.
They should eat almost anything. Yours may be sick or stressed. Look up videos on how to diagnose and treat sick fish. Aquarium CoOp and Prime Time Aquatics are very trustworthy. Also check out forums online. Best of luck to you.

Thanks! As for the 20 long, maybe if you had only females. They stay a bit smaller. But really I recommend a 40B or larger.

Is there a blue lab? Would love to have a tank of yellow and blue. O noticed you have no plants. Will they tear up plants?
There is! :) The latest video I posted highlights the Blue "Yellow Lab". And there's some plants they'll leave alone (e.g. Hornwort) but most others will be eaten.

What rocks are those and do they help with keeping the hardness up? If not what do you use?
Hi! The rocks came from a landscape supply yard and were called zebra stone. They don't affect the hardness. My local water is very hard naturally, so I dont have to adjust it.
Hey my yellow lab just holded the eggs in there mouth but the thing is there is no male in there then whyy!???
Hi. Sometimes females will lay eggs on their own, or even with other females. But the more likely scenario is you have a fish that is actually male. Best wishes.
can i put these with my electric blue acara and congo tetras? 75 gal tank, 2 eba and 7 congos.
Hi. They'd be fine with the EBAs. I believe they'd do OK with the Congos, if the Congos are full grown.
I had a tank full of them, and loved them so. They bred some fry and I raised them and the heater broke after a year of raising the fry and killed them all 😢a few months later my 39 gallon leaked and my adult yellow labs died. I’m still heartbroken. They’re easy to keep and fun, just have better luck than me.

I've had them and bred them and I'm getting ready to open up another tank for them again. I want to mix them with saulosi's and rusty's.

i have some in my 33-gallon mbuna tank with some demasoni. overall yellow labs are pretty chill with anything mildly territorial that's not another yellow lab

@@suyashn in hindsight probably not but they did well when i had them apart from one dominant fish being a jerk due to only having 4 labs, i dont have the fish anymore tho

Can this fish be compatible with blue polar parrot cichlid?
I've never kept those together, but I think they'd do fine together. You'll get a lot of people telling you to not mix old and new world cichlids (I myself don't enjoy that), but it can be done. The only concern might be the parrots feeling overwhelmed by the active labs, even if the labs aren't being directly aggressive.
Yellow Labs ARE pretty great, I love them! If I had to choose my favorite, I'd choose Chindongo Saulosi -- two great colors in one species.

Hi. These fish are not from Dave's Rare Fish, but he does sell them at a great price.
What's the minimum amount and with that amount, the minimum tank size?
I recommend a minimum of 4, if it's 1 M 3 F. If you don't know the sex, then gk with a group of 6. In either case you can keep them in a 40 breeder pretty well.
Can i keep only two Cichlids in a tank?

@@rmusic8969 should be fine. But if two males, they'll likely fight. If the fighting gets too intense, be prepared to pull one out.

Wow that's a big step! Saltwater is great for sure, but you'd love freshwater setups like this. So great, and so simple!

@@scootervargas9323 I think a small breeding group of labs would be fine. 1M/2-3F. Alternatively you can look into Victorian's. Most of them are small and beautiful, and also need our help with conservation. I suggest Haplochromis sp. Ruby Green, or similar.

Can you get away with monthly water changes on this tank here?
I do weekly water changes. At most I'd stretch it to bi-weekly. Some tanks could go a month, but this one is too heavily stocked for that.
They one of the best. There are other cichlids than can be considered as the best cichlid such as cyphotilapia frontosa, chindongo saulosi, neolamprologus brichardi, and wild discus. Anyhow for beginners yellow labs is the best choice

Females can have egg spots, but not always. When they do have them, they'll be less stark and numerous than males. Sort of faded looking.
How old are the biggest yellow labs in the video
Not sure, but probably about 4 years. They reach full size around 3.

Hi! I've never kept Firemouths or Parrots. Most people would tell you to not mix Old and New World cichlids, myself among them. But if you wanted to try it, I suspect the labs would do okay with those fish. Just be ready with a backup plan if things go wrong.
I have been keeping one who is in a 75g tank with 7 larger South Americans for about a year. He does fine and shows no aggression like he did when he was with other African cichlids.

You could have started by showing pure yellow labs, Labidochromis caeruleus "golden" and not as in your video above hybrids...keep it serious.
Not hybrids man. 'Golden' is just another common name for the same variant as this, from the Lions Cove collection point in Lake Malawi. You gotta be one of the least likeable people I've seen so far in my comments. Don't assume you know everything, don't be a jerk, and keep it classy.
