    Had the chance to fly both, the new A350 XWB and the new B789 within a day and I must say that the AB is far superior over the B. It’s much quieter, has less dry air and has a much better overall feel...looking forward flying the XWB again next week...

      Yep, I agree. The 787 is actually nothing special to fly on, apart from the huge windows. In the now-standard 3-3-3 configuration, it's very cramped. The A350 is more spacious and feels better.

      Also been multiple times on both, A350 is far better - smoothest ride I've experienced. Dreamliner rattles badly on uneven runways and feels cheap. The seats always have some issues.

      @jhmcd2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Actually the A350 and the 787 are not in the same size class. The A350 is large, and competes with the 777. The 787 is a little bigger than the 767. But I wouldn't be surprised the Airbus would try to take some of these concepts. After all, Boeing was the first to lower the cabin altitude and add a humidifier on their jets. This was something Airbus copied when making the plane. In fact, the very first video I saw on TH-cam was how in order to create the A350, Airbus basically stole the design of the 787's wings, and systems and taped them onto and into a A330 body.

    • @jlust6660

      @@jhmcd2 They were in development at the same time, and Boeing rushed the release of the 787 somewhat, with some issues as a result. As for size, the a350 is somewhere in between the 787-9 and 777-200.

  • @EstorilEm
    @EstorilEm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Should have mentioned the Airbus variable camber system the plane uses in the “new technologies” part. Absolutely incredible what the computers can do. Up to 4 degrees of flap deflection (can be asymmetrical also!) inboard or outboard, are used during flight to optimize trim and drag automatically depending on the detected center of gravity. Can also be used to move the wings loading inboard or outboard - this allows them to be able to build the plane even lighter and optimize lift occasionally for very heavy takeoffs or in hot/high regions.
    The redundancy is also truly spectacular, even compared to the 787. It has 8 pitot static sensor ports with an additional standby tube, four AoA sensors (3 also do other stuff) - hell it even has 3 side slip sensors.
    You can lose 100% of your hydraulic systems on an A350 and not only will it still fly well, but you’ll even keep autopilot. 😦

    Interesting tidbit: when Airbus originally proposed the "A350" it was essentially a highly modified A330 model. It was only in consultation with several airlines that Airbus decided to develop an all-new plane, the A350XWB, which was designed to better compete against the Boeing 777. Even more interesting, when Airbus started the A330neo project, it had many of the aspects of the original A350 proposal.
    Airbus is currently seriously looking at making a higher mean takeoff weight (MTOW) version of the A350XWB-1000. This will allow the A350XWB-1000 to fly as far as 9,000 nautical miles.

      @Zeksteve the dedicated Wikipedia article for the 787's battery issues says at least 4. I remembered it as being more, but I was thinking of the fuel leaks which affected many more aircraft. If I'm not mistaken it's was an Ethiopian Dreamliner that first had a battery overheat and resulting fire. Actually, the HUD option was available for Boeing aircraft long before the 787. The 727, and 737 origional, classic, and NG series were all available with the option for a HUD. Airlines didn't really see a necessity, so they tended to not have the option installed, but it's been around in Boeing aircraft for a very long time.

    I work as a cabin crew on both aircrafts, my conclusions are that the 787 is Boeing’s second worst after the 767, cramped.
    I was very favorably impressed by the silence on take off when I was next to door 1L, instantly thought the opposite the second I went to the crew rest area.
    On my first flight we had a major water leak issue in the G1 galley that could not be tapped so we’ve had to remove the water constantly until the tank was depleted, as we were two hours away from the next terrain.
    The rear galley is somewhat unpractical, with a number of extra movements needed to remove the trolleys, for instance.
    It is a vast galley though, and that is nice.
    The -350 is (in my view) Airbus’s best production to date, at least regarding my own function aboard.
    Note: the best aircraft for me is the 777 by far, and I have a thing for the -380.

    • @johng669
      @johng669 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you ever consider the costs of products? If an aircraft is a little noisier then another or springs a water leak in the galley once in a while but is $75,000,000 cheaper in price then that plush aircraft some would opt for the noisy plane.

      There is no 'nonsense', both planes have their pro's but having flown both, I find the Airbus superior. The A350 and A380 are definitely the best types I've flown on, and I've flown on them all. Boeing was certainly brave with the Dreamliner, and really pushed the envelope way ahead technologically, but they overstretched themselves and the programme was a commercial and organisational shambles. The 787-8 is a compromised machine, the -9 made a lot of improvements apparently. And Airbus probably learned from watching: the A350 is ambitious but not quite as over-ambitious as the 787, and it had a much smoother arrival.
