Frieren is the ultimate example of the High Intelligence/Low Wisdom mage. Her genius gives her incomparable ability to understand and use magic, but also she would get stuck in one of those traps that's just a box propped up by a stick if you put a grimoire under it.
For Sense I'm sure she joined Frieren's group out of curiosity regarding Frieren herself being "the last great mage" as well as the mage of the hero party that killed the demon king. To find out she's kind of a silly individual would be one of those "never meet your heroes" type moments.
In the world of magic it's all depends on imagination, if you can't imagine you doing the impossible, then you failed as a first class mage. That's the test
They'll explain it more in the very near future! During the third test with Ubel! It's a really interesting take on magic which feels relatively grounded
She has admitted to losing 11 separate times 6 times to humans nonetheless. She hasnt known defeat in the last 50 years (last L was 80 years ago with himmel party vs Qual)
Just a reminded that Sense was slated to be the proctor for the second exam before the first exam even happened. Frieren and Fern just got unlucky with the timing. Also, I love Denken so much. He knows full well that CopyFrieren is about to treat them like children, but he doesn't back down because he knows it's a test and a challenge for him to overcome.
Fun fact: Sense (the judge) entered the dungeon deliberately to raise the difficulty of the test. Because that means some of the test takers would have to defeat her replica.
The last scene is just perfect. The music, the pace, the posing, the implications. It is an example of why this is such a great, beautiful anime: They do not cut corners or take shortcuts, but they build consistently and treat their viewers with respect. In other lower animes, we would have had a static cut to a pan of the faces in fear, then Frieren with just one red glowing eye, with some typical music. We wouldn't have the beautiful flow of the figures, the eyes of Frieren that look so sorrowful even lonely, etc.
"I'm exited to see the copie of Frieren" Gladly I wasn't drinking otherwise I would have spit my drink everywhere knowing what was going to happen right after lol.
The really funny thing about the mimics is it is litterly the only thing that caused Frieren any hassle this far in the dungeon. And even then the only problem is a not exactly bad hair day
Fern's clone is possibly more terrifying, she's practically invisible and has a very powerful ambush deathray. Don't forget there is probably a clone of the proctor somewhere too.
while video games won't let you do it, there is a fairly easy method to deal with "snap jaw mimic" AKA the type that take on a treasure chest form, or I should say an easy way to test for them, without damaging any treasure that could be inside in case its not a mimic. See a treasure chest is designed with a high lid, no one is going to stuff the chest so high that it all spills out when you open it, the treasure is down inside, even if filled to the brim. So what you do is you take a long weapon, maybe a range weapon, lean down so you are able to thrust, stab, or shoot forward directly at the lid, not downward, directly at, so worst case it fires/stabs through the lid. If there is treasure you are unlikely to hit the treasure, if its a mimic you just impaled it through its upper body. So even if its not killed outright you now know its a mimic, fleshy-goo out a wooden hole is a pretty good give away even if it doesn't automatically attack or react in pain (some mimics are just bio-traps without pain receptors), but leaking bio-goo is still a give away. And you won't have likely been in range to be attacked outright, relative to trying to open it right away.
PS: if the option is available, most mimics have low willpower or no willpower, which can mean psionics won't work...its like trying to mind control a severed limb...or a starfish, however their low resistance usually means that instant kill spells, even those with a low success rate against strong willed creatures, might just one shot the average mimic, if nothing else most spell casters can sense the difference between their spell being resisted by a living creature vs it hitting an inanimate object.
12:37 my personal headcanon is that Frieren once saw Flamme actually get lucky with the Mikheit spell and pull a grimoire, so now Frieren can’t resist because she knows it could work
Given Frieren's long life and the number of chests she's probably encountered - if she listened to a detection spell with a 1% false positive rate, she would have passed up great loot several times. And since she can get herself out safely...
Alicia, i believe you're looking at it wrong. She doesn't fail them, they fail themselves. I'm fairly certain her section rewards mages who work together. I'm guessing the previous tests failed because they all assumed they would have to continue to fight each other. A pacifist that wants their testers to pass, won't make a challenge that pits them against each other. I posted this at 3:30 so if you come to that revelation at some point after, then my point is not needed.
It makes sense that Frieren has enough experience with mimics to survive them on her own. And if Ringlets are the only consequense . . . I wonder if she'll ever decide to open a spa with a special mimic treatment? Can we monetize this discovery?
There's so much potential storytelling with this upcoming fight. The duplicates copy personalities, so most likely it'll only use offensive/defensive spells, but if they can push the copy we might see what happens if Frieren is backed into a corner without actually backing her into a corner (smart on the author's part). We've seen the new lady do a mirror(?) thing with the gargoyle, which might hard counter basic offensive magic if played right, and given Frieren's penchant for the weird folk magic/utility spells, there's a nonzero chance we get some WILD nonsense combos if Frieren's normal bulldozing doesn't work. I'm hyped.
Frieren: "I'm not invincible, I've lost 11 times in the past some to monsters and an elf." Alicia: "You should all just give up, you don't stand a chance." I know she's the main character and all, but man, she's not exactly an issekai protagonist without weaknesses.
Well, she lost 11 times in what? 1700 years?? Considering her aperance when she first met flamme, 1000 years ago, and the longevity of elfs... I guess she was, at minimum, 400 years old on that day
It's hilarious how the viewers over hype Frieren, even if she herself is pretty realistic. She spent over 1000 years learning magic and increasing her mana, it's basically an obligation for her to be superior to human mages who could only be doing it for 60/70 years at most; put her in a fight with Serie and she'd be more humiliated than than Denken when they fought 🤷🏾♀️ I love Frieren, but her wins do not mean everyone else is worthless like so many reactors are insisting, nor do they mean she's ultimately invincible and the strongest in the world
I like to think Frieren is like Goblin Slayer. She's very fucking good at what she does and what her title says, but it doesn't mean she's invincible against any other type of creature. We have seen Goblin Slayer taking a huge fucking beating once, and he never takes fights head on, he always works smart. Its the kind of fair protagonist that I like.
My prediction: this copy doesn't have the full amount of mana that Frieren has. Only the amount she shows using constant mana suppression. So they'll be able to defeat the copy in a tough fight.
I have not read the manga, so this is just an speculation on my side which could be completely wrong but Almost all of the mages of first level have names which are verbs in German (for example, Lernen, to learn). Laufen means to run and Denken means to think, so I think that those two will qualify at some point, just because their names fit perfectly with the rest of the group.
when Alicia said "she's getting ate" at 12:42 i thought she meant something else for a solid 2 seconds. Chanted "By the mimic, by the mimic, by the mimic" when i realized
Not only a copy of Frieren but most likely the spell also made a hostile copy of Sense. Wonder how thats gonna affect the final evaluation of the test.
I'm curious what Sense's previous exams were. Hard enough to fail them but not kill them. I suppose some of them could have been class 2 or 3 exams though too. If they only hold the test every 3 years in 2 cities, that doesn't give much opportunity for Sense to build up a reputation as the test proctor that fails everyone.
Probably, different tests for different levels have time gaps that are not the same, so it is fairly possible to pass all of them in a year if you are lucky enough for all the 5th to 1st Mage Tests end up in the same year. Fern only took the 3rd Rate mage exam cause was the only one happening at the time she was in the city that does it

From the dialogue, we already know that the clones fight the same way as the originals, too. They have the same abilities, the same movements, the same mannerisms.
So the one saving grace here is I guess unless the dungeon boss here is ridiculously overpowered, they shouldn't be able to copy Frieren exactly no? At least as far as we know her mana capacity is absurd, it should take an even more absurd mana capacity to faithfully reproduce her while also creating a bunch of copies of other people. Not gonna lie, its not very pacifistic of that examiner chick to make them fight racist Axe commercial versions of themselves. Edit: why doesn't she just destroy chests to get to whatever's inside?
In Dark Souls, if you attack the chest fearing its a Mimic, the chest breaks and the loot turns into Garbage, no matter how good it was before. Easy way to beat the Friren clone. Show it a mimic.
Frieren likes the gatch chance
You should watch Mr. Villain day off
At least 3 pauses for assumptions this episode that are then disproven seconds after the unpause.
Mimic is Best Character.
Frieren learn to be that gamer that will spend 100 hours in the first part of the first map just to get 100% of the content.
After all, she has all the time in the world.

Day 186 of asking Alicia to play Nier:Automata!!

Man you missed quite a few points in this episode. Would be great of you can pause to talk and then rewind a few second so it won't happen again.
I love your rant, but theres a chance you will missed a lot of thing as you were distracted.
Not gonna lie, its not very pacifistic of that examiner chick to make them fight racist Axe commercial versions of themselves.
Edit: why doesn't she just destroy chests to get to whatever's inside?
Because then she'd blow up whatever is inside of the chests
In Dark Souls, if you attack the chest fearing its a Mimic, the chest breaks and the loot turns into Garbage, no matter how good it was before.
Frieren dont mind being inside a mimic, so she bet on that Gacha Luck, 1% is a fucking lot if you are a gacha gamer, normally those are at best 0,1% or 1/1000 chances
If whatever is inside is fragile you're risking breaking that too while you're at it.
Also, the Examiner isn't making anything happen; Or at least as far as we know she isn't.
@@Pherim_ Not a gacha game, but I sometimes farmed for items that had a chance of 0.05-0.01% so a full 1% would have been a blessing...
Everybody knows that destroying the containers has a high probability of destroying the loot inside, thus rendering it into nothing more than junk.
Kakashi failed everybody except team 7. These types of strict instructors usually look for some type of candidates and what she said does make sense to a certain degree
Denken was like this sum bullshit😂
