    Yes, auto-dump is amazing for SUPER heavy flow, as you can get really really sore removing and re-inserting a cup every hour or 2.

    Here I am on Vacay looking up how to prevent leakage thinking I’m leaking because I go to the bathroom and it’s auto dumping! Stoked to have found your page and thank you so so much! After having a baby I bought a disc because all the cups I bought didn’t work as well 😭 so thankful for this education and glad to know I’m not actually leaking! I was struggling with my menstrual cup as the insertion part was very painful and I struggled to get it to pop open inside(probably wrong technique, but the effort was a little too much and painful that I stuck to pads again!) I tried menstrual discs with much hope and yay!! It worked, so comfortable and no pain!!!

    • @PeriodNirvana
      @PeriodNirvana  2 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      JUNE is not a good company. I don't know if their disc is a private label like their cup, however I encourage folks to stop supporting this company simply because it's cheap. I take a lot of issues with how they've hidden and outright lied about their cup being the same model sold on Alibaba (now it has a logo on it but it's still a private label cup shape) and how they took the Covid-19 pandemic and used it as a marketing opportunity. I could write a novel but please look for a reputable company to support with your money. It does not have to be a disc sold on my store (period.shop) just not that "brand." I don't expect the average consumer to know any of these facts but I wanted to share in case that is something important to you.

    The disc mess really doesn't sound as bad if you already have issues with messy and noisy cup removal due to heavy flow. And it's from what I've seen is the only one of the two that has an affordable disposable equivalent that you can try before committing to the higher priced reusable.

  • @valeriethechinadoll

    I love my menstrual cups. For years I've used the Softcup from Walgreens. Then last year I saw The Flex cup on the shelf & bought that as well. I love both & can't tell the difference btw them. I wear a glove to insert, clean & remove them. I use 1disc per menstrual cycyle while cleaning it in between by dumping it, & rinsing it w/water & reinserting it. All this time I have been removing, cleaning it & reinserting it everytime it would leak in the toilet. I thought I was leaking & never knew it was autodumping. So this is a huge blessing to learn about. I find that the disc stays in place for hours & I don't usually leak. Sometimes I do find that I start leaking when I am forming a clot. I can tell from the pain a clot is coming. Then I spot & start leaking. It seems that the clot blood escapes the disc & starts to run out of it so I leak. When I sit on the toilet & remove the disc, I find that I can see the clot in the disc. So that is something I am wondering about. I use to feel like the clot would escape the disc & I would pee it out when I am on the toilet. But that doesn't happen anymore. So that's my experience w/the wonderful discs. I now will see if the autodumping is enough when I go to the toilet, or if I will continue to rinse & reinsert everytime it does.

    I tried a cup years ago but it wouldn’t suction no matter what I did. I threw it out and went back to tampons. Then I saw the discs come out but thought it would be the same. Recently I started hating tampons and wanted to try a disc, I decided on the Luma unique high and medium (bogo sale). Today I got my period, put in the high disc, it took 20 seconds. And I got it right the first time! If anyone hates cups, try a disc!

  • @atlaslex

    I Didn’t know that’s what it was called, but yes, the ‘auto dumping’ feature of disks is the most useful thing ever. Been using menstrual disks exclusively for 15 years and I’m going to have to disagree about the 12 hour thing though. Auto dumping during the day and removing and cleaning the disk in my nightly shower has been totally fine for me. Obviously everyone has to figure out their own bodies and be mindful of TSS, but I’d suggest you carefully give it a go. Total game changer.

    • @MarytheBad

      I actually don't think tss is possible with cups and disks! (I actually had tss with tampons before, it was like getting badly fever sick all of a sudden but only lasted 5 or so hours because i knew it was the tampon and removed it early) I'm trying the disk and yeah one of the reasons I got it was the autodumping and potential to wear it a long time

    • @audeai4021

    It's my first day today and also first time using a Lumma large (very high cervix) and I am loving it so much! Total game changer but am still trying to navigate around autodumping. Although I have always successfully autodumped whenever I urinate, I always try to push it back in place cause I feel paranoid that the disc dumping the contents means it's not hooking back to the pubic bone. Do we really need to push it back into place every time it autodumps or does it hook itself back after? Is it possible to have a completely hands-free experience within the 12-hr period?
    Also thank you so much for discussing this. I don't see much resources detailing autodumping.

    • @stephanie5999
      @stephanie5999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@EasyOceans From my previous experiences, I found that it wasn't really necessary to push the disc back after autodumping as the disc will go back in place behind the pubic bone. I do get spots with autodumping too, tho. You're right, it's probably the residue. I use an additional reusable pad whenever I use a disc. But if you don't do that, I would recommend wiping the residue or washing the area with water.

      Auto-dump only happens when you use your pelvic muscles in the sitting position. So when you do #2 and even #1 you're using muscles that dislodge the disk a bit and have it auto-dump. I suppose that you might use those muscles at other times as well in a squatting position but those would be rare cases.

It’s given no problems during workouts, swimming, sex etc. It took a few cycles to get comfortable with it, and I wear period underwear just incase still. On my heaviest days (which are heavy with the copper IUD) I find it doesnt leak for up to 6 hours

      It's possible just based on the movement but I don't of any specific examples of it happening. I would try when you have backup protection to see if your movements cause an issue :)

    • @PeriodNirvana
      @PeriodNirvana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TH-cam ate my comment, this keeps happening! I wanted to say that this was an issue I had early on when trying discs. I figured out that for me it was my timidness. Once I really, really tucked and stopped being nervous and pushing too high it stopped the slipping. If that isn't the issue and it continues to slip it's possible the diameter is too wide for you and this causes it to not tuck well and "spring" out of place then slip. The only brand that makes smaller sized discs is Lumma at the moment.

    • @christalcavanaugh
      @christalcavanaugh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some discs like ziggy have this problem more than others. I imagine it’s the shape, but I’m not certain. If you can I would try another cup, maybe even a smaller lumma disc size

    Do any of y'all find that the auto-dump can be triggered by sneezing or laughing very hard?

    • @PeriodNirvana
      @PeriodNirvana  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is usually a sign the disc is either a bit too small or too large. A better fit would keep it from slipping or being untucked from a sneeze/cough. That is not ideal but it's hard to know it will happen to you until it does - backup is good when trying a new cup or disc for these scenarios

  • @deeluvstee

    Serious question here. If the auto-dump feature is because of muscle movement from urinating or defecating, does farting cause it to dump too? It would be so inconvenient to have a leak due to a fart. 😅

    • @Karli841

      I’ve never had it auto dump from anything other than using the restroom. I’ve even tried to bear down while not actively urinating/defecating and the rim still gets caught behind the pubic bone, preventing leakage.

    • @cassaleelee
      @cassaleelee ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very specific to the muscles you generally only use to bear down to pee or poop. The only time I've ever otherwise felt those muscles engage is when using strong force during an extended chore, like bearing down to push something into a box that won't fit. Those muscles don't get used during dancing or sports that I've ever noticed. They have a very focused "job."

    So with auto dumping some blood comes out of the disc. This flows out of your vagina into the toilet. Isn't it necessary to also have a panty liner in your underpants? there would always be some blood left in the vagina, right?

I couldn’t feel it inside so I thought it was in the right spot? BUT then when I took it out the inside bowl part was empty and not bloody, so how tf did this happen? If it was in the wrong place all along how come I didn’t leak all the time it was in? I’m still confused.

      Not to me personally but if it's that easy for it to auto-dump for you it might be that the diameter is either too large (so it is super easy to prop out of place with changes in position) or too small (same story, but because it's smaller)

  • @heleen313

    Hi Kim or viewers I have 2 questions. Do you push the disc back up after auto dumping or does it take its position again naturally? How do you clean up after auto dumping? I think a little blood flows back under the disc while auto dumping, which will drip out again afterwards. Or are you wearing liners? So you may think you are leaking whereas it is left over blood from auto dumping?

    • @PeriodNirvana

    I was having really bad flow issues (i.e. a new tampon per hour), and then the doctor gave me some kind of medicine that makes your blood clot together more. And it really helped. Maybe you should ask for something like that if you're having issues :) It's like a one-time, during the period thing and your body should "learn" to clot the blood together from that.
