This helped me so much! My Hello disc was leaking (only my 2nd cycle using it), but I guess I need to “scoop”! It felt way different when I inserted it when I scooped. And also inserting the disc until you can’t go any further before tucking it was a most excellent tip. I am no longer discouraged. Thank you so much!!

First time using a menstrual dic, it took me a while to be able to successfully gt it in with practice and this video definitely helped. I want to reiterate some stuff that was said as well as some stuff I myself found helpful:
    1. When they day you shouldn't feel the disc inside you, they really mean it! At first I thought that I had it in as far as I could, but i still felt a pinch when standing up. You really want to push it back more until you stop feeling a stinging sensation.
    2. This is going to sound odd, but if you feel like you are about to poop, keep pushing the disc back as that indicates you are getting closer to the back.
    3. When squeezing the disc to make a figure 8, i use my thumb and pointer finger together to squeeze the disc (literally an 👌 held sideways towards the vagina). I do a squeeze on the disc while pushing it in and as i insert more of the disc with increments, I will eventually feel the outside of the back rim. Push in the back rim holding your pointer and index against the back rim until you feel a narrow hole or until only your pointer finger could only fit into the hole.
    4. A good way to figure out if the disc is all the way in is by feeling underneath you're butt around where you feel a hard bone. Trail your finger towards your vagina and gently stroke up and down along the squishy parts outside. If you don't feel the rim, you got it!

The flex discs were always too big for me but once I got the Saalt small disc that’s reusable, I was in love. I forget I’m on my period and I can wear it for the entirety of my 12 hour shifts. I tried the saalt disc and found that it seems to like "bunch up" in front of my cervix and blood was just going around it. But determined to make a disc work i decided to try bending down in the shower to insert, made the angle toward my lower back easier to get. I will crouch now a little if in bathroom and it works much better!! Seems to dip under the cervix better if the cervix is at a lower point that day. And haven't had any leakage since, now can use the disc or my cup on my cycle!

Using a disc is simpler and more comfortable than when I used a cup. I really want to continue using a disc but noticed some days I experience leaking and was worried about the positioning of my uterus. Great video. Very informative. I appreciate the visual dotted line to represent the “scooping” motion. That’s exactly what I do to insert my Hello Disc. The advice about tucking the disc behind the pubic bone is super important and helped me with inserting. I shove my entire thumb to tuck my disc behind my pubic bone or else it won’t work lol. Having the tab gives me peace of mind knowing it can never get lost and I can easily take it out - it was also a great way for me to learn about my vagina and not feel so scared to explore when inserting a disc and cup.

Menstrual discs are the only thing helping me keep my sanity during this wild ride of perimenopause periods. I keep 3 different ones in rotation (Saalt, Moonthlies, and Lumma) and it has been incredible. Wish these had been around since the beginning of the reusable internal use menstrual product era. I had very little success with menstrual cups, and I tried about 8 different brands and 3 different sizes.

So I used to leak when I first started using disc. I mean horrible… it took me 3 cycles to figure out what I was doing wrong and it was that I wasn’t aiming toward my tailbone or like Kim said down towards your butt. For me that was the key. Once I figured that out i have had zero leak. So i insert down towards my butt, when I have just a little bit of the disc sticking out, I push it in while at the same time pushing up so it can tuck. To make sure that i did it right I like to check with my finger down where my tailbone is, and if I feel the rim of the disc around my tailbone , then I know that its in the right place and tucked. I sometimes push a little to make sure it doesn’t easily slip down, because if it does then its not tucked. But for sure this is what helped me. Aim for your butt and then push up 😉

Used cups forever and when I couldn't get my saalt disc right I was like what the hell am I doing wrong lol I bent down in the shower one day and really pushed it to my tailbone or lower back the pushed the rim up behind the public bone. Never got a leak after that. So now in the bathroom I kinda crouch so I can aim it right. Before it seemed like it was getting caught in front of my cervix and blood was just going around the disc! 100% works way better now. I've used menstrual cup for many years, but it was only two years ago when I first heard of the disc. When I got my first (and really only model I've ever seen) disc, I was really excited with the possibility of wearing it during intercourse. However, I was never able to use my menstrual disc properly, except for two or three times, and when this happened it was almost imposible to take it off afterwords, reason why I stop using it and stick to the menstrual cup. But I never knew the exactly reason why I struggle so much with the menstrual disc, whether it was slipping down, or it was folded in a odd way. Now seeing this video I understand that's probably due two factors: high cervix and retroverted uterus. Well, it seems like it's definitely not the best choice for me, but it was great to know the proper way to insert it. I'll give it a few more trys before giving up for good. 😅

I’ve been successfully using a menstrual cup for around twelve years, but it just recently started sliding down when full and causing a lot of pain from just hanging out in my v@ginal entrance where it’s not supposed to be. I finally got sick of this happening and bought myself a disc. This is my first period with it, and your videos have been an absolute boon in helping me figure everything out. I still have one question, though: How do I prevent involuntarily auto-dumping whenever I sneeze or cough or basically use my abdominal muscles in any way? I’m pretty sure I have the disc tucked properly, because as long as I don’t do any of these things, the disc works fine. But I’m having to try to not use my core at all, which is obviously unrealistic. Thank you!

Personally it doesn’t have enough room in the vaginal canal to come out whole. When you pull it out it squeezes back to a smaller size but once it’s at the opening about to come out, I find that I have to be extra careful because it will just slide right out and it can get messy but with time you learn the best way for you to remove that’s not as messy or scary ☺️

I just recently found your channel when I recently revisited the menstrual cup world and discovered they finally have made reusable discs (YAY)! I used discs MANY years ago when they only came in disposable cups (like 20+ years ago) because I struggled with cups; however, they were HUGE, so not very comfortable, but they WORKED. My issue with cups was I could never get a seal, were usually uncomfortable and they always leaked (I'm one of those special unicorns that have a low cervix AND a heavy flow - yay me! 😆). I recently revisited the menstrual cup world because I've recently run into supply issues with my tried and true brand/size of tampons - not sure what that's about as I had no issues during the pandemic, but it is what it is. I just want to say a BIG THANK YOU for all the information on your channel as well as I wholeheartedly appreciate your candor when making these videos. The vaginal canals have to be wider than a real vagina since plastic does not expand like vaginal tissue. Otherwise the scale is pretty spot on.

I have had 5 cycles with discs and it leaks every.single.cycle at some point! Why?
I insert it at the angle you said, I go allll the way as far as it will go, I tuck it. I can go up to 12 hours without any leaks. Sometimes, though, it will leak out of the blue even though it is not nearly half full and it had been there in place for hours!!!!!
    Can you solve this mystery????
Ps. I have used a variety of brands and they have all leaked, so I don’t think it’s a disc size issue.

hey girl! just wanted to say thank you so much for this video! i was a major cup user for over 10 years (Diva cup) and loved it! Never needed to change but once i had kids it never was the same again, it was uncomfy and my pelvic floor muscles weren’t strong enough any more. So I ordered a Nixit disc and started watching your video! Your video was SOOOOO informative. I am so happy with this over my cup! and comparable its so much more comfy as you truly can’t feel it. So as someone who has kids i have to say im forever a disc user now! so thank you!

Sorry i have questions regarding the use of a menstrual disc and idk who to ask so if you, or any other watcher of this channel, can answer me, it would help me so much.
I watched all your videos as I was looking for a cheaper and environmentally friendly alternative to tampons, so i decided to buy a menstrual disc.
I took your website’s test when choosing the disc and used your tutorials when inserting it, but i have only one issue, and i don’t see anybody talking ab it so idk what to do
So I bought the lumma disc size S, & i inserted it correctly, because i checked and i tucked it properly behind the pubic bone, my cervix is inside it (i checked), i touched all the borders and its in place, the problem is the round part/“cup” part thats underneath the rim/border, it doesn’t open properly in the round shape, its like folded in itself a bit. This is my third change during this period, each time i tried with my finger to get it to open more, but it’s like when i create the eight shape during insertion, the cup part folds itself towards the inside following the eight shape i fold it in, and when i have put it in, it doesn’t expand/unfolds itself properly because the walls of the vagina from underneath kinda keep that space not “deep” enough and push it in itself. The only part that unfolds & permits the blood to be contained, is the part that has the vaginal canal below so there is no vaginal wall stopping it.
I thought, as the blood would pour in, the weight of the blood would help the disc take the same shape it has when its outside the vagina, and therefore permit the full capacity of it, but it didn’t and instead the blood started getting out when the capacity of the “punched-in” (sorry idk in what way to describe it) shape was finished. I think it didnt even reach 1/3 of the capacity it’s supposed to have.
Even from watching the video tutorials, it seems as if the vagina walls would shape themselves around the form of the disc, instead in my case it seems as if the walls and the insertion process are shaping the disc.
So… anybody has any tips? Did i make a mistake in inserting it? Do i have the wrong size/disc and maybe another size, brand or type of disc would have fit me better?
Also to give further context. I am a virgin, 21 years old, first time menstrual disc user and never used a menstrual cup, usually i use tampons, medium height cervix and i don’t have a tilted cervix. My flow is considered medium or light.
The diameter/circumference of the lumma disc S seems to fit me as I comfortably tucked it behind the pubic bone and behind the cervix, the rim itself adhered well to the vagina walls, after each use i had to untuck the disc from behind the pubic bone so i dont think the issue was it slipped in my vaginal canal.
Also i have been working in a standing position during the use, so it cannot be possible that the spill was caused by auto-dumping happening.
It is also not a small spill, i had the disc in for 10 hours (the capacity is supposed to be 12 hours) & i had put a pad for safety reasons and the pad ended up full, so that’s a lot of blood that wasn’t contained. The disc wasnt even 1/5 full due to the folds.
And my flow is not heavy, I usually change a tampon/pad every 8-10 hours during my heaviest day.
I’m so confused if this is normal, and for discs, capacity-wise, i have to take into consideration the anatomy and depth of the upper part of the vagina where the disc sits…. or if instead the disc is supposed to unfold into its proper form…. somebody help plsss idk anybody irl who uses a disc so i cannot ask anybody around me! & sorry for the massive TMIs and detailed descriptions

Alright so I tried a reusable disc out last cycle and was able to get a perfect leak free seal right away. That said, it was so messy to remove it, I can't seem to hook my finger under to pull it out and instead have to hook it over the top of the ring thus dumping blood absolutely everywhere as is exits. It was way more comfortable than a cup tbh but such a mess that I'm about ready to give up on it.

That being said it’s extremely annoying because if I need to remove it where there is no shower it’s very annoying.

I feel like I run out of finger when pushing it up though getting it out isn't much of an issue. I've been told I have a tilted pelvis (anterior or it's tipped backward) and a tilted uterus but I don't know if that affects things vaginally. And when I put it in, there's a bit of a "shelf" though not much. Once it's in, it tends to slip out and I feel crampy or a weird pressure in my pelvis and/or rectum. I already tried a menstrual cup and due to vaginismus it was incredibly painful to remove, so much so that I almost passed out. So that's no good. I'm just so sick of tampons and pads and I feel left out with these newer options.

I have a very stupid question. I am using a cup right now and it works okay but because I am quite a heavy bleeder I was thinking about using a disc. My only problem is: I am afraid I won’t be able to put it where it belongs. I feel like my arms are too short or I am just too fat, even inserting my finger is a problem for me. Will I even be able to do that last push upwards? Or is there a better technique I could try?

I was misunderstanding the auto dumping! I thought that it shouldn’t be happening! I have Flex Reusable Disc and only issue I have now is the leaking. Nothing too bad that a pad can’t handle, but so annoying. I want something that won’t give me that feel that I am leaking. Also, untucking from the bone thing…I feel that I need longer fingers to push it all the way back and up behind the bone. Wonder if anybody has the same issue.

You mentioned that we should be able to wear the disc all day if we aren't heavy bleeders. I am going to try the tip you mentioned of aiming for the tailbone because maybe I'm still doing it wrong for my anatomy. I do wonder how long going between emptying the disc is normal for a heavy bleeder? I can't go more than 2 hrs without needing to empty my disc or I start leaking. Should I be able to get more than that?

    • @plutastar
      @plutastar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I didn't think I had a very heavy flow. I was surprised I had to empty the disc more often than I expected. For my first two days I have emptied it every 4 hours and I have avoided leaks. I'm going to test in a future cycle if I can push to 5 hours, because I know when I first successfully put in my disc, I had leaks during the 5-6 hour mark. After my first 2 days, my flow significantly decreases and I'm able to change it every 12 hours until I no longer need it. If it takes you 2 hours to go without leaks, then your flow is heavier than mine. I switched to discs because I wanted to wear them for 12 hours. Even though I can't, I am so far preferring it over pads.

    • @lookingatdaisies9901
      @lookingatdaisies9901 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

When you empty it, is it full? The cup/disc capacity decreases slightly when it's folded. I'd say check when a super tampon (9-12g) leaks for you. And compare when the disc leaks. Then you'll know if it's leaking because it's full of is leaking because it's not inserted properly. Just an hypothesis I think maybe the capacity reduces to 3- 4/5th when squished in the body.
