It’s a great amp for me at home, have one in my bedroom. It takes pedals really well and doesn’t take up too much space. And it has that incredible chorus circuit, perfect for dreamy soundscapes!

JC-22 has been my home amp for 2 years (Bright switch always “on”). Sounds clean and clear, is so size convenient, and is great for my Space Echo pedal to run in stereo! I wish the Reverb had more range, but have been very happy with the amp overall 😃

I had to choose between the JC22 and JC40. I chose the JC22. It sounds great at lower volumes. If I ever need more volume, I would find a JC40. If you don’t need serious volume, I think you will be as happy as I am with the JC22. By the way, the JC22 can get pretty loud.
The JC-22 has been my main amp since I got it. Pristine cleans when you want it, good pedal results. Started out extremely quiet when on, but this summer it developed a low hum - not as loud as my all-tube Pro Jr., but no longer silent, and it is there when there are no pedals in the chain -- or guitar, for that matter. That bugs me and I hope it's just a reaction to something in the power pathways. Besides that, I love it.
Finally a Jazz Chorus where you can’t accidentally touch that horrible distortion 😅 Great video! I’ve been wondering if I can get this instead of a JC 40 and I think this will do just fine 😊
congrats on the amp- i want one !!! . i got a jc120 (still have it)in 1995 and used it along side a guitar synth and a bass amp with a boss se 50 and then pedals - so much fun . a few years ago i found a beat up jc50 which is a single 12 . the chorus is non functional on it as i think the bbd chip is fried . i recapped the amp , the original speaker bit the dust but i really love that amp . its basically half of a 120 which is a really LOUD amp . nothing beats the tone of these amps . people whop berate them dont know what they are missing . enjoy .
I'm trading in both my Yamaha THR10II and my Supro Blues King 12 for this amp. My beloved Ampeg R12R stays, though. That's my all time favorite tube amp for my Ric. The JC22 will be the solid state go to for cleans and pedals.

I’ve had one - great little amp but was very ice-picky compared to my previous Vox AC and it kinda „jumped at you” instead of sagging. Now I Have AC15VR which seems to be the best of both worlds for bedroom playing.

I have the 40 watt Roland cube, it's never off the JC 120 model mode, it sounds so nice. It's crazy loud though. I'm thinking of trading it for one of these for the stereo and the slightly lower wattage.

ah that's awesome man! these amps are very versatile indeed. the 22 really is as good as the 40, just smaller size & no distortion/slightly different modulation controls :)
When looking for a solid state amp I had considered the JC22 but the 8" speakers scared me away. The JC40 was more to my liking but I came upon a used early 1990s Fender Princeton Chorus which features an excellent chorus, two 10" speakers, spring reverb and a stereo FX loop at well less than half the price of a used JC40 so I went with the Princeton. It's not a Roland JC but it gets the same job done near as well.

Great video as usual. How does the 22 compare to the 120 you have? I don't play enough guitar to warrant getting another guitar amp but I've been seriously tempted with the jc-22 as it's a low maintenance, portable amp with a great clean tone.
The JC-22 performs very well at low volumes as well. I waited for a good 2nd hand deal on one. New they are a bit too expensive I think (but then still: it's defenitely not a miss buy if you grab one)
You cannot compare. Roland: syper clean, for very clean guitar and jazzy style music. Everything else from pedals in front or in the effects loop. Ergo: you need a stack of quality pedals or a good (then stereo) multi effect. Than it s a winner. For the extreme clean stereo effects adventurer. Styles: clean, clean poppy, jazz, singer/songwriter, pink floyd, fripp, metheney, etc. Next stop: a bigger Roland, I guess. Fender: mimics quality fender amp, clean, crunch (tweed style) or overdriven. A guitar players beginner amp. Style: 50s blues and gretck rock, 60s funk, 70s soul, light crunchy/overdriven rock. Next stop: a serious tube amp probably.
How much louder is a JC-40 compared to a JC-22? I rarely turn my JC-40 past volume at 2 (9 o'clock). If the JC-40 were at 2 what would the JC-22 have to be at to match that volume?

I haven't played on it extensively though I think you'll probably enjoy it. There is one guy (space guitar, i thinkr?) on youtube that does great demos of the all the JCs. check him out

all our videos pretty much use jazz chorus, that includes all the distortions & fuzz pedals we've tried. we even make our own fuzz pedal & love how it sounds through the almighty power of jazz chorus! this is a great practice amp for an apartment, the sound is comparable to the 40, the smaller speakers are still great.
i love both for different reasons. if we're talking 22, it's small size is incredible. having my favourite amp in such a small form factor is really going to help me out once i get back on the road playing shows / jams.

Great video man! But man these Rolands are the worst drive/distortion platform you can get, apart from Boss pedals that I believe they sound as they were intended to, on a Roland
this amp is If you are especially looking to sound like The Edge 81-83, Robin Guthrie, Johnny Marr, New Order, Joy Division, or Pat Metheney '80s, etc, the Cult, Andy Summers, and so much more textural players that are always more underground, indie and less overt and traditional blues or funk and classic rock solo-ishy. Anyone outside of the textural orientation can certainly find use for this amp, but will likely not be juiced on it and especially unsatisfied with the distortion.

My JC-22 hizzes and I find it pretty bothersome because I sit so close to the amp. Will probably switch it out sometime just because of that.
