- We had a toasty day at Gingerman Raceway to test the 2022 Subaru BRZ against the Hyundai Veloster N! While it wasn't a perfect apples-to-apples track test, we still came away impressed by the Veloster's cooling abilities and the BRZ's fun factor.

Got the 2022 Veloster N DCT. Insane car. Had a 2005 wrx before that and it beats it by a country mile. The N is insanely planted and has a TON of grip. It's also VERY hard to overheat. It is a go kart on drugs.
The wrx beats the veloster you're saying? Or the other way around?
I also had a wrx for awhile and now own an N.. love my N way more!

I had to double check that I didn't leave that comment myself. Recently got a 2022 Veloster N DCT, coming from a 2015 WRX CVT. The WRX was a reliability nightmare for me, was very glad to be rid of it. Plus the NVH was terrible. The CVT actually didn't perform badly, but even though the N DCT only has 7 more horsepower than the WRX, it's way faster. The WRX was always a bit lethargic right off the line, but the N is definitely not. It does have some wheel hop on hard accel from 0, but aside from that and a tiny bit of torque steer when both cornering and accelerating hard at the same time, you can barely tell it's FWD. Plus in eco mode it completely transforms into a pretty comfortable, quiet cruiser, something the WRX could not do at all. Thrilled with the purchase; happier with it than I ever was with the WRX.
Personally I prefer a RWD / manual transmission for my driving fun. There will always be a faster car no matter what you drive so I look at driving pleasure. To each his own.

Not that it matters, ordered the top spec BRZ, manual, WR blue.
Still take a black Veloster N DCT over the Elantra N DCT, regardless if the EN has better interior, tires and a little more practical. The VN in Black just looks wicked, and is way more fun than my mk7 Golf R after driving em B2B.
Better hurry, Hyundai has announced the Veloster N won't be around for 2023.
@@wbwayne8887 yeah I know I just heard They jus sticking with the Kona and Elantra N. Probably gon drive the price up for a 22 VN. Shame tho... The VN DCT is way meaner than the other 2 IMO. Thx

I just happen to be the owner of an Ultra Black 2021 Veloster N DCT. I agree with you on it being the best color.
@@CaucasianWiz love it! Most people are all about the performance blue, and yes it does show more detail, but the all black just looks so much more like it's wide and squatting and mean looking. Congrats man.. enjoy it

How is the car in daily traffic? I might get one but I live in a city filled with traffic, so I'm considering a a sedan instead, but I'm not sure...
@@Vtari in normal mode it's like any other car but in N mode it can be a rough ride

2020 Chalk White 2020 w/PP. We now have collector cars. The problem is the way I drive it I wonder how long I will have her?
These cars are fairly new, but if you're going to track them, I think you should definitely step up to a 5w-30, add an oil cooler, swap the brake pads, and buy whatever oil pan, baffle, and pickup Killer B comes up with. 0w-20 is for fuel economy, not racing. The brake pads are also for low-temp city driving. The main issue with the car right now is the oil pressure drop on right-hand turns. At this point, I wouldn't even track the BRZ or GR86 until someone sorts that out. You're just asking for a spun bearing.

It's crazy now I was thinking getting 86 but shocked to see people selling them 35k to 38k end up buying Veloster n for cheaper 32k, more power and more daily drivable had it for 1 mths no problem.

We know there's gunna be a Performance Pack/future BRZs with Sachs dampers and better brakes. I wonder if they will throw in an oil cooler. However, the low price of the car gives room to go aftermarket.
the 2022 twins already come with a oil cooler. Maybe not as insane as an aftermarket one, but it does have one.
@@yawny9710 the stock one is not effective when the temps get above 80 degrees ambient. An aftermarket cooler is necessary if you want to hot lap as the temps rise
Doesn't look good that the BRZ got hot at the track with +80F, it probably would overheat at 100F👎
Also the new BRZ and GR86 deliver very poor Highway MPG for a 4 cylinders car🤔
I have a Kona N and the BRZ has zilch as far as power is concerned--I paid 35k for my Kona and the BRZ and 86 near me were all low 40k.They are not bad for a novice track car--but as a daily driver it falls short--anytime you goto pass anyone on the hwy you have to downshift into 4th to get any power--in my Kona I just press the pedal down maybe 50% and it will be in triple digit speeds like nothing.The wet DCT--my first--is an excellent tranny there is virtually no lag when it upshifts since it is already in the next gear--makes acceleration at any speed very effortless--almost punchy around town.

Drove both, have a 21 VN DCT, an amazing vehicle, honestly, you can go for whatever you feel is better for you, but IMO, VN is a much better choice, you can "feel" more, and it`s definitely more fun to drive, it has power and you feel in control the whole time, plus is also cheaper somehow.
Lots of comments about the Subaru`s, WRX/STI whatever, those are awesome cars, but they drive like a regular sedan, if you drive a VN/EN/KN and jump on a WRX immediately you feel that the speed/acceleration is about the same, it`s just not as good of a feeling.
I recently bought a 21 VN DCT. I test drove like 9 other cars including a stage 1 DSG Golf R. The Golf was definitely faster, but not nearly as engaging of a driving experience. I also test drove an Audi S5, if it wasn't for the reliability issues and being almost double the price of my Veloster, I might have gotten it. I definitely think I made the right choice. I have put nearly 1200 miles on it in less than 2 weeks....and I don't work and really don't have anywhere to go lol.
Have a Veloster N 6mt, on a hot day a FBO and tune BRZ is about the same for acceleration until 80.
loved my 19 N, especially since back in 2019 it was only 29k OTD

I have one as a daily does just fine as one but it can get a lil rough over messed up roads.

@@Vtari If you drive it in "normal" mode or your custom mode (depending on settings) it is completely fine in traffic. I would say yes, get it over a camry.
Easy. Normal mode is comfortable, I get somewhere between 27-32 MPG highway depending on if I want to get out of traffic or not.
@@Vtari if you’re looking for a Camry or the N, you might be better off in the Camry.
The N is significantly more uncomfortable. But not unbearable at all.

The base BRZ doesn't have near the grip as the Limited model has. That isn't the purpose of the Primacy's. I guarantee the Topher was having more fun during his laps.

@@willr1796 and I would pull up and laugh at you in your cheap Korean car or a Chevrolet. At least Subaru has roots in racing , nobody thinks about Hyundai’s racing team because it’s non-existent. The paint is also horrible on the elantra.
@@willr1796 Subaru WRX is the best car for 30k . Nothing you say will make me want a Hyundai or Kia . I like what Subaru represents and the dealership experience. I would feel so shitty having to go to Hyundai. Those cars are for broke boys with bad credit lol . No woman will ever be like “ my man has an Elantra “ those cars are nerdy as fuck . Woman love STl and WRX . Little boys like Hyundai Velosters . Veloster sound like molester hahahaha

@@bubalo_28n8 you can’t blame women for be attracted to success. I don’t use or rely on my cars to get girls but it definitely doesn’t hurt to have dope cars . I love when hot chicks have a nice car, I love cars . My Subarus may not be the fastest cars but I’m usually faster than 90% of the cars on the road and my cars handle extremely well . I don’t care about horsepower as much as style and handling.
