Welcome to the stunning Elk River! With perfect weather in store, we’re up early and trekking a little south to soak up some time off the hustle and bustle grid. In store, a 2 day float consisting of pristine scenic views, a lot of fishing, primitive camping, quality bonding time, and the best part… no cell service.
We catch Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, and Sunfish.
Along the way we LOSE my GoPro Hero8, but I go back several days later on a search and recovery mission!

Trip Details:
The river is called the "Elk River" and flows out of Tim's Ford Lake.
We put in at Farris Creek bridge and take out at Shiloh bridge. This is an approximate 12 mile float with stunning scenic views.
It is an approximate 15 minute drive between the put-in and take-out.

Thanks Steven! That's the goal, share some of the awesome places that we have. Not going to lie, at first I was very skeptical about sharing some of the locations, but after a lot of thought my hope is that if more "good" folks know about them than just maybe that means more people to help keep them clean and open for all of us to enjoy.

No, 12 inch rainbow is not big. Its a perfect eating size. I like to keep anything between 10-14 inches. They fit perfect in the frying pan.

I hope you checked the generation schedule before this trip down the Elk. Water levels typically increase 6-8 feet when generation starts and the river can be very dangerous in light water craft or while camping nearby during generation.

We did, but like you know, they don't give you a "future" schedule. When we went, it hadn't rained for weeks and they had been releasing at a consistent rate. There was also no rain expected during out trip!
