Ive just been curious how Karen O looks exactly like she did in 2010. Not a line not a wrinkle smooth skin. She has Asian in her though. They do age gracefully.
I admit I just became a fan after Spitting Off the Edge of the World compelled me to learn more. But I understand why they have such a strong following. Her voice is so unique and genuine, in all aspects. And they seem dialed into to each other's musical journey as a unit. Very cool.
I know, right?! Critics are myopic and just want flappy braindead snuff songs that are easy to digest and much easier for the average dumbass to understand. I swear, we're living in a time like in the movie Josie and the Pussycats! Robotic, modern day zombies; let's brainwash everyone without thought or sense. Gahh!!XD
especially when it comes to TV and movie "critics", I usually do the opposite of what they say. Much like how rotten tomato scores for woke crap get 99% from cRiTiCs but 5% from audience. Screw what critics say. Paid propagandists.
No it didn’t. At least not that I recall. Even a google search now shows overwhelmingly positive reviews from when it came out. But sure if people want to go seeking negativity I’m sure they can find outlier examples.
Blacktop is one of the most beautiful songs they've ever written, right up there with Soft Shock, Turn Into, Wedding Song and the others. It really hits you right in the heart, especially when Karen's soothing voice reassures you to "hold on", and at 3:43 it feels like all the worry, stress and despair has lifted away into the void. YYYs forever! 🥲
Where have you been all my life??? I've discovered you guys only yesterday and I'm in shock. Your work is Art with a capital A. Totally in love with your sound
I love how they always come back with a new take on their sound rather than trying to recreate FTT. So many bands from the same era are stuck doing pale imitations of their hits from 20 years ago. I'm so glad YYYs are not one of them. They still sound so fucking fresh. Cool It Down really is an EP but it's a great to have them back!!
I think I can speak for many of us - thank you for your work. Your ability to connect to those deep, serious feelings is unparalleled, and we appreciate it.
"Art Star" made me an instant fan of The YYYs and Karen O. Seeing them live in New York made me a devoted fan and made Karen O. an inspiration and solidified her ICON status for me....I was in awe. As an alternative musician myself, you guys have been and remained on the top of my list of favorite bands since day one. Your songs have been a pivotal part of my life: from sadness to grief, heartache to love, power to patience, rage to resilience....and this is another beautiful masterpiece. I've cried singing this each and every time. I am so glad you guys are back. My heart could not be happier. 🖤
I'm surprised by the negativity this album received. With so much bad music on mainstream radio, an album like this is a huge breathe of fresh air. I don't care what the experts have said, this is great.
What negativity? It's sitting on an 82 on metacritic, getting most 7/8's out of 10. Fan reactions seem positive too. Or are you just trying to spin it to make it seem like you like something divisive because you get a kick out of being "different"?
No one understands beauty anymore they want suduction not adoration not love but lust, not kindness but dominance, not contentment but fear. It's understandable given the fact that heartfelt music has been replaced by gangster rap, sexual hip hop and music that has no substance and is made for a moments enjoyment only to be replaced by the next bubblegum, unartistic mess they call music. The very fabric of art has been misdirected and a lot of people do not have the ear to understand what music is meaningful and what is used to create social impressions and invoke unconscious influence and distort the minds of youths. We know how much the world creates unwanted variables in our lives and provokes inner underlying human impulses through suggestions and applying subliminal context to the power of sound manipulations and frequency response or the use of psychological stimulation/depression and alterations to induce desired physical and biological rhythms that coorispondence with a unpresented theme or implications that can not be experienced directly yet through unconscious propagation of underlying human interests or desires. This has value as music not only because of its sound but also the power of the genuine desire for people to experience greater levels of appreciation and enjoyment applied by those who created this song. The power of musics healing and inspirational capasity far surpasses any other form of art without question. As far as life goes music is the very fabric which all things are constructed from and which offers more then it receives. Don't let music pass you by without acknowledging it's poignant and profound dynamics because it is a life force in of itself. Cheers!!
Where is the negativity? Probably from annoying hipsters who loved this band in their first two albums and enjoy saying “they’re not as good as before”
“Oh, as I was young and easy, in the mercy of his means… time held me green, and dying, though I sang in my chains like the sea” the yeah yeah yeahs were with me in my wild youth, and here I am many years later, feeling as if they’re still retelling my story.
i will forever be grateful for having seen their concert in barcelona in 2022. that moment is amongst the most beautiful feelings of my life. karen is queen. is god. is absolutely incredible on stage and in the world. ❤️

I love Karen's voice in this song and I also love the unusual music change In a yeah yeah yeah's song👍👍❤️ This song is as underrated as this band, They are a cult classic ❤❤
One of the precious few albums we've heard over the past several years that seems completely unbound from the age and culture it was released within. Radically introspective, scaled-back, and sincere. Feels like a long overdue hug from your weird uncle.
Back in, well, over a decade ago, your music helped me through rehab (alcohol). Which was unexpected since I had been listening to it preferably when quite drunk. The floating, the boundlessnes, the absence of gravity of being high - I was missing it so much and found it in your sounds and energy. It was dangerous because it reminded me painfully of what I had just lost, if voluntarily (more or less). But, yeah, you know, I could restore the good feelings without drinking, it was a premonition of what would later become true, reality: that it's possible WITHOUT the booze. Everything I had numbed with the beer and liqour is revived, the good, the bad, the ugly, i.e. life. And you helped. Thank you. Oh yeah, marvellous song this, by the way... :-D
