I am so glad that you kept making these updates. I started with your first one. Was hoping there were more! Wish you would have done 50 of them showing us how you coped with everyday activities. Take care Jam, you are the best!
My surgeon recommended no physiotherapy for six weeks, she also said you’ll know your limits better than a physiotherapist. She pretty much said no physio was necessary. she also said to keep the sling on for six weeks. So many different views who’s right ?
I wore the sling sorta for 6 weeks b/c I had a full tear while sleeping (or was it not sleeping🤔). It was always 6 weeks but I could start weening myself off at 4. I know another guy who’s doc told him 4. It probably depends on severity, the cautiousness of the doctor and things like age. Mine was always kinda a do what your feel you can do kinda guy. Just as long as we all have good results! If I had to do it over, I’d probably push for PT earlier b/c I hated the muscle atrophy.
@@jam5188 oh yeah, the nerve block was the “ saving grace” on the front end. I still struggled day 2-3 and ate the pain pills like candy, currently at week 3 and second week of PT. Using ibuprofen to manage the discomfort.
No, it was a full thickness tear but I don’t think that was considered detached. I think doc said it was at the point he had to “complete the tear” in order to repair it. I hurt it aggressively hanging from my arm learning pole dance spins and hanging from bars in the gym without proper technique combined with overuse. I think poor posture is a root cause.
@@jam5188 Ok thanks, I am a tennis player, and hurt my superspinatus in August, and recently noticed the muscle has atrophied, even though I have full range of motion. I fear it has fully detached. I will get an MRI next week. Good video, and best wishes for a full recovery... cheers- T
@@TimmieTennis Good luck! I had full range of motion and very little limitations on what I could do up until surgery also. I can see how some non-active people could live with it. I’d just go weak at certain movements/angles. If I could play tennis, I would be able to now, just maybe not as long. I can do pretty much everything I did before but it’s not the same...but it works. I need to do a 1.5yr later video. Anyway, I’m glad I did it.
@@jam5188 Thanks, I notice some weakness on my one-hand backhand, which uses the supraspinatus to abduct and externally rotate. Just one more Q-- did you notice any atrophy of the supraspinatus? Mine has a concave shape, not bad, but I think it bothers me enough to go through surgery. I'll see what the MRI says this week. Was an MRI used to make your decision for surgery? oops that's two Q's-- thank you!
@@TimmieTennis No atrophy that I was aware of but that’s a super-specific isolation so I could have overlooked it. I stayed pretty active so I probably worked all the muscles around it. Yes I did an MRI w/arthrogram but the doc that did my second opinion didn’t think the Arthrogram was necessary.
It is better to have started passive exercises from day 2 or 3 post op. Look into Devine healing energy from the Bruno Groning Circle of Friends Introduction Lecture.....no cost ever. Good luck and God bless.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Similar to my experience at week 3.
Thankyou so much

Thanks just had my surgery yesterday very helpful
Yeap....3 week’s out the 4th of Feb.. day 1-3 hurt like 🤬😢
Did they do nerve block? I was all about the drugs the first week or so. I tried to be tough but...No lol.

How did you hurt it? Did your supraspinatus tendon detach as well? Thx- Tim
